Where can I find wheels
spaceenginers/content/data/cubeblocks.sbc ctrl+f search for 'wheel' and change this to true: there's a couple of different sizes of wheel so do that for each one
Do people think I mean the underside of the ships in FTL? Because I mean as if there's a Top Layer and a Bottom Layer to the ships and the top layer is what disappears so you can see the inside/layout of the ship.

I basically park my mining ship right next to an asteroid, park this thing over it so the glass is covering my transport and an area of the asteroid, then i drill the hell out of that area, letting my collectors spew so that the stuff i mine and the debris thats get generated all gets sucked out.
People thought when I wanted curved shit, I was being dumb.

if we're being really technical the grid is actually the top layer since it's placed over the actual ship sprite
People thought when I wanted curved shit, I was being dumb.
curved blocks have been known+functional (but hidden) for a while if that's what you're referring to
curved blocks have been known+functional (but hidden) for a while if that's what you're referring to
Yeah but people thought I was being dumb asking for curved blocks like this, because having 45 degree sloped blocks is fine but when a curve comes into play noo, that's breaking physics or some shit right there.
he's not "essentially right". You're not looking at the fucking bottom of the ship.
If you cut the top half of something off, you're left with the bottom half. You know exactly what he's talking about and it's bullshit to argue about semantics on a fucking internet forum about video games.
If you cut the top half of something off, you're left with the bottom half. You know exactly what he's talking about and it's bullshit to argue about semantics on a fucking internet forum about video games.
The argument is dumb but I think it's grounded in the fact that the top half of the ship hasn't been removed, a window has merely been provided so you can see into the interior. I think. I've never played FTL.
So... Make yourself a hovering forklift! Or... Just a normal forklift, since we have wheels now.
That's the first thing I plan to do when rails/hydraulics are added.
Yep, but I think it might actually hurt/kill you in survival because you need to sprint at it to push it.
So... Make yourself a hovering forklift! Or... Just a normal forklift, since we have wheels now. Also, you're all complete idiots for arguing about this for three pages. Learn how to use the English language, and then stop doing that.
Also, you're all complete idiots for arguing about this for three pages. Learn how to use the English language, and then stop doing that.
If you're on about what I mentioned with the FTL doodad, I only mentioned it close the end of the last page, in which case you're talking shit, if you're on about something else however, ignore this.
If you cut the top half of something off, you're left with the bottom half. You know exactly what he's talking about and it's bullshit to argue about semantics on a fucking internet forum about video games.
nothing gets cut off though, when you see the rooms they are simply pasted over a view of the TOP of the ship the only part of the ship you ever see is the TOP, so people are understandably confused if you say you can see the bottom half or whatever, it's simple
If you're on about what I mentioned with the FTL doodad, I only mentioned it close the end of the last page, in which case you're talking shit, if you're on about something else however, ignore this.
(Yeah... I just noticed that. Let's just say it's preemptive, since all our arguments here tend to last a few hundred posts.)
For anyone who hasn't played FTL here's a gif. [thumb]http://i.imgur.com/7s3ndIf.gif[/thumb] It took me a minute to realize I had the Space Engineers thread open and not the FTL thread.
Heads up to anyone making terrestrial vehicles, the artificial gravity block displacement bug happens even in single-generator environments, not just conflicting field setups for gravlevs like I thought. Bottom line: replace your artificial gravity blocks regularly or your vehicles will start to act like their center of mass is far below them = flipping over randomly.
More like we need fucking dedicated servers. Every update without that is a disappointment. [editline]22nd April 2014[/editline] At least for the perspective of multiplayer-oriented updates.
Can we please just shut the fuck up about FTL? It's a pointless argument. Can't we just go back to complaining about updates and sharing ships?
And to think I got excited when I saw all these new posts..
Yeah but people thought I was being dumb asking for curved blocks like this, because having 45 degree sloped blocks is fine but when a curve comes into play noo, that's breaking physics or some shit right there.
they just look fucking awful though
Sharing ships you say? Might as well share this then: Front with one of mine (left with beacon) and two of my friend's ships. [t]http://puu.sh/8iQvR.jpg[/t] Front [t]http://puu.sh/8iQA1.jpg[/t] Rear [t]http://puu.sh/8iQBp.jpg[/t] Closeup of simple mining vessel I made for this ship, has a connector and a collector. [t]http://puu.sh/8iQDa.jpg[/t] Main Hallway [t]http://puu.sh/8iQFw.jpg[/t] Engine compartment bulkhead [t]http://puu.sh/8iQG8.jpg[/t] Refinery/Assembler setup, the glass floor in the main hallway covers the piping. [t]http://puu.sh/8iQH3.jpg[/t] Spare room, might use for mass storage? [t]http://puu.sh/8iQJx.jpg[/t] Bridge approach [t]http://puu.sh/8iQKJ.jpg[/t] Bridge [t]http://puu.sh/8iQLt.jpg[/t] Bonus: Magnesium [t]http://puu.sh/8iQNg.jpg[/t] I feel like it's a wee bit colourful, but I can't be arsed to repaint it.
[vid]http://a.pomf.se/snfbbv.webm[/vid] This is the dumbest thing I've built.
Survival has really little amount of playability to me at the moment, because after you've set up a base, mined a bit, and salvaged a few cargo ships, there is no point in playing it any more. I get bored out of my mind just grinding and welding things. I mentioned before about scenarios/missions sending off ore back to earth, but even then it'd be a bit dull. You'd need a big, long term goal with something to show for it at the end, for me to keep going back to play survival, because all my creative needs is so much easier in, well, creative mode. I think an "end goal" of having to create a station as a mining outpost with x amount of refineries, assemblers, and living quarters/medical facilities for the occupants could be something. (I appreciate that this stuff is probably been looked at by the devs further on in the future, and at the moment they're obviously going to focus on more core features, but this is just what I think)
My survival endgame right now is to create a self sustaining ship that I will build on untill an update with procedurally generated worlds comes out, in which I should venture onwards to find new worlds..

Right now I'm building a space-yacht, which is big enough to consume the resources of four salvaged ships. I modified my game files so that building and deconstructing only takes a fraction of the time it's supposed to, so it's not as awfully grind-y to me (because fuck solar panels with a build time like that, seriously) but I'm not sure what I'll do after that.
-Dedicated servers -Ship AI -psuedo Planets (huge, Rounded astroids with gravity and maybe some gases on the surface) -Hugemaps or hugemap alternative. -Using thrusters to turn. -Landvehicles. Pretty much the wishlist of what people in this thread seem to want soon (from what i can tell). Rather shocked that The FTL guys made Rock cruiser A and C but not B, the best one.
No big ship weapons? Railguns? More blocks to play with? I really do want a working sector system, though, with more interesting things to explore (like dwarf planets). More AI traffic would be cool, too, even if it's just expanding the current "dumb object in a straight line" system. Ships spawning quicker, more designs, more routes, different speeds, etc. They should at least be passing within visual range of the asteroid cluster at the center of the map. Side note, what about a basic radar system? Beacons are currently the only way to navigate to any objects that are beyond visual range, so it's easy to lose things that aren't marked by beacons. It doesn't have to be complicated, just something that can send out a ping and highlight any ships within a certain distance or certain direction. It could display the same basic information as the ship information panel, like mass and volume, or maybe heading and velocity. Really, I just want more stuff to put on ships. Right now we basically have power, thrusters, gyros, and cockpits. I want more things to play with.
We reaaaaly need ai, I want to put my fancy fighter ships to use.

Antennae are going to have functions, my guess is to receive beacon signals. Afaik they haven't said anything about any sort of radar. Should be pointed out that the devs not saying they're going to do something doesn't mean they won't; they're rather self-flagellating about their mistake of promising too much with Miner Wars, so they tell us almost fuck-all until the update is released :v: There's a mod out that adds more ships to the random spawns http://forums.keenswh.com/post/sephs-community-cargo-ship-expansion-6859021?pid=1282462193#post1282462193 Not too keen on it, myself; not all of them fit with the overall ship design theme the originals have, but it does add a hell of a lot more variety. We're unlikely to get anything large enough to have it's own gravitational field like a dwarf planet, but since they've mentioned iirc that they're implementing a sector system (sort of like Minecraft's chunks, though hopefully loads faster than a bucket of sloths in treacle), so perhaps some interesting map stuff might come with it. At the very least, we're likely to get much much larger asteroid fields at least.
