yes
I don't know what they're planning price wise, but if they want to increase it as the game progresses, I'd say buy right away.
in regards to lag, mining hand drill or small ship mounted, causes insane amounts of lag for us, or more accurately the game slows down to like 1/5th speed(This is with 64 max objects). Framerate stays in 20-30fps when mining, 10-20 with spotlights on.
edit: To elaborate now that I have more time, 2 friends and myself played space engineer a few months ago, no lag no problems aside from no conveyers/dedicated server options at the time.
Now, even with just 2 of us, anyone except the host will rubberband when controlling ships leading to drills etc getting destroyed, even if it's fine for them. Any time someone is mining be it hand drills or small ship drills, framerate remains the same, but the game slows down to 1/3rd or 1/5th game speed. Spotlights causes framerate losses about 2-5fps per spotlight and the game in general runs at ~30fps with these specs: AMD FX-8350, Radeon HD 7970, 16GB Ram, it's the same problem singleplayer.
Is there a Facepunch server I can join?
No. There are currently no dedicated servers.
I have made a mining ship that shits into my mothership
I feel I should make the collector inside a toilet shape.
oh my god, i've never thought of building a ship to carry another ship as part of the main ship
omg
I'm trying to build an asteroid mining station built inside the rock. It's taking forever to hand drill and when I try to bring the blue minor in close it just fucks up everything with it's thrusters, and still only mines tiny circles. Should I just scrap all the metal and modify the miner to mine bigger areas and use that to build at least a basic hole until I can make wheeled miners, or is there another way?
This is also being done because I set it to Armageddon difficulty because my friends and I wanted a challenge. Building into the biggest asteroid will give us time until we set up a defence grid to blast the rocks away. I fear though that ammo will cost a buttfuck to produce rendering the turrets as a non-feasible option.

Welcome to the club. For the record: 5 small ship block units fit inside a large ship block init.

The power provided by solar panels is rather pathetic, especially considering the amount of ammo you're going to be spending on armageddon.

Never use spotlights especially if you are making a ship thats bigger than average (or just have many things).
Their use can most of the time be replaced with normal lights unless you are just looking for that volumetric glow.
For small ship use last time I checked they barely were able to light anything up so you were equally good off without them.

I put them on my little mining shuttle, helped me see where I was going.
I really hope they buff solar panels a little bit. I can understand them being less powerful than reactors, but come on, if we've got gravity generators we should have more efficient solar panels, especially considering the sheer power of the unadulterated sunlight. Maybe like 100kW when fully exposed or something, because 6kW at most is just ridiculous. I can understand why they don't want people to fully run their ships off of solar power, but at the moment you'd need a few dozen panels just to allow the basic systems of a largeish ship to function.

I made a ship powered off solar panels (in creative) and it was incredibly stupid. For a small ship to run on it I had a double sided platform of them that was 12x10 and with that if I was directly in sunlight and angled correctly I could power one thruster and a bit of gyro so I could turn.

To run a refinery/assembler, you need over 90 panels in good light. It's ridiculous, especially with how long it takes to build them jesus
Any way I could make this turret look nice? It looks incredibly boxy at the moment

the turret itself seems fine, i think it's your ship that's too boxy
This is what the thing looks like so far, although I'm getting fed up of building it.

What do you think would improve it? I'd love some constructive critiscissm.
If you shrunk it to a reasonable size.
I don't understand the desire to build abso-fucking-lutely colossal ships in this game. They're not feasible to move, and they're not even feasible to build unless you have ungodly amounts of free time and a decent computer to handle the inevitable lag.
Make it even bigger. If there's anything I've learned from W40k, it's that a warship isn't a warship until it's the size of jupiter and then some.
oh fuck, i just realized I can have a BSG-like flak wall now. Anyone want to build a cylon basestar?

I do enjoy survival, but I enjoy creative as well. Scratches a different itch, basically.

Most ships heavier than 30 million kilograms have massive issues turning and moving. I'd imagine that thing is never going to accelerate beyond 5m/s.

I mean you could have 30 million kilos of gyros and it still wouldn't turn

If you host a server I'll be up for joining it.
I think I'm going to buy this. Does anyone want to host a creative server so we can just mess around and build things on?
There aren't any dedicated servers because they can't be done yet, but someone could easily host one.
I'm more interested in creative than survival because from the videos I've seen it looks like survival takes forever to do anything, and I just want to build shit.

just bought it
