My Ship is powered by a Galaxy.
but does it feature A DRILL THAT WILL PIERCE THE HEAVENS
but does it feature A DRILL THAT WILL PIERCE THE HEAVENS
It is both the drill and the heavens, at the same time.
I have reached to the point i have done everything i wanted to do with the current feature set of Space Engineers. Now i'm gonna wait for a update that allows weapons/harvesting/anything new. Or multiplayer.. But they said they haven't really worked that much on it. (The gameplay you saw from the trailer was done through LAN)
Have you considered recreating the 1960's dreams of spaceflight?

FPS dropped noticeably, not enough to be annoying, but noticeable indeed
Man, between this and Routine (a sci-fi horror FPS in a similar vein to System Shock) I think I'm going to be set on space games for the rest of this year. This looks like it will be a blast, especially when multiplayer becomes a thing.
i cant find a price anywhere on their website or steam how much is this game?

I would be having so much more fun if they added some simple AI module that would just thrust a ship forward while i can sit in a other ship. I want to redo that scene from the trailer where this guy walks over the bridge while a ship rams into it. It looked incredible. [editline]22nd October 2013[/editline] Also, is there some way to 'mod' the max speed of a Large Ship?
Yeah honestly I agree, my favorite ship design is from a franchise where ships are typically tiny in terms of sci-fi worlds anyways (Star-trek) and even then its tiny compared to them. Its a shame too, because this thing is nigh impossible to recreate in any building game, thanks to the fact the ship is nearly all flowing curves.
Andromeda? Farscape? Oops didn't see the image
Running into shit is starting to get a little old. Time to get some new features, especially if they're letting it on Steam.
Running into shit is starting to get a little old. Time to get some new features, especially if they're letting it on Steam.
It's going to be like minecraft, you're going to get burned out faster than they can trinkle in new features.
Don't buy early access games if you don't want early access? Nobody is forcing you to play.
Honestly I'm hoping they make it a bit more complex. Not hugely, but altering the gravity mechanic so it fills the enclosed space out from the generator rather than just being a radius and thus won't affect other ships would be a great start. After that you'd have the groundwork to add air systems, depressurization which would go great with the hull destruction, equipment lockers to change to a faster-on-foot clothing set that doesn't provide the utilities for operating outside ships or get yourself some boarding weapons... you know, flesh out the player aspect of it. Then a system to let players customize what each control booth is actually in control of, like gunnery seats linked to some turrets and dedicated pilot seats, for sweet multiplayer shenanigans. I mean, I'd really like it if you actually had to place thrusters in the right positions relative to the hull for maneuvering, and hooked them up to controls manually so you could customize every aspect of how your ship handles and talented shipbuilders would actually be engineers instead of artists. As it is now, I was pretty excited at first sight but gradually became kind of apathetic towards it and probably won't buy it for a while until we see more of what they're planning to do. Worth noting: I've only watched the dev videos and had a fairly quick read, if I missed something and some of this is planned point me in the right direction please
I'm worried about this too but I still bought into it. The grand scheme of things that they have planned (making an MMO that blends Miner Wars with what Space Engineers will be) sounds great, but while I don't know the specifics, I heard that Miner Wars was a major disappointment and let down on the developers' part. Personally I thought Miner Wars was okay but I never followed its development and I didn't know about any of the issues surrounding it until recently. Hopefully the devs don't spoil the massive amount of potential this game has though. It would be better if they actually worked in a story and universe rather than this just be another do-what-you-want game with no purpose at all. But that may fall in line with the MMO they're supposedly planning after this and they may very well end up taking everything this game is and combining it with the Miner War's (not so great) fiction.
They do seem to be very self aware, which is good. Like this dev post they're very open out miner wars and why it didn't work out. http://blog.marekrosa.org/2013/05/postmortem-miner-wars-2081.html

http://blog.marekrosa.org/2013/05/postmortem-miner-wars-2081.html
That article reminds me that I was approached by a Freelancer acquaintance of mine (SolCommand, modeler) years ago who was working on Miner Wars at the time. I think he was asking if I wanted to help making models for the game. There's no way I would have had the time to do that, so I declined.

I doubt they will fail though, it's pretty hard to fuck up a sandbox game. At the very least modders can fix things too.

Your gravity/suits/air fits perfectly with my idea of dynamic energy. I would love to see a game where you have to fix things on foot in your ship when half of it gets taken out. Re-balancing power. Rerouting oxygen. By god, perhaps if the devs are dedicated enough, an in game coding language to automate things. Also, one of my favorite things to see is a huge ship with a long streak of broken hull, the remains of hitting a ship on your side and continuing to go forward.

Well, some things are extrapolated, but believable. Every object in this game has real mass, volume, and physical properties. We try not to cheat the physics. Sandbox, no campaign. We will use this game to try to popularize science and space exploration. This game’s going to be awesome.
So I'm sure they'll keep adding layers of complexity I hope. And some of the ideas like stripping back the metal layer on a door to access the computer to hack it does seem to drift more towards SS13-level of spaceautism which is great. Sometimes its best to be inconspicuous.
Why is Star Citizen not on your list.
To be fair, the concept of Star Citizen is so incredibly overambitious that it seems unlikely they'll live up to it to the degree everyone wants it to. Not saying it will be bad, but I'd rather not hype it up considering there's no chance it'll live up to what they're saying.
Not to mention they have so much feature creep to deal with now. But I am still really looking forward to it.
When stable ship on ship landing finally comes in I am going to make escape pods, no directions but forward thrusters. Also insertion pods if I can get them to effectively pierce the hull.
Honestly, I think if Space Engineers is developed to even the level of quality that Miner Wars was, it'll be fantastic. Let's face it, Miner Wars was a pretty impressive game in its own right, despite the development issues and "over-promising" (Which is typical for indies. That tends to disappear after their first game, though. Unless you're Phil Fish.) As for game features, I'm sure we'll have energy conduits, pipes, and all that jazz. Personally, I'd like the ability to either integrate it into the hulls before you weld them, or have them free-hanging in hallways and stuff. A sort of trade-off between durability and repairability would be pretty cool. I say we just stand back and watch. Even if it doesn't fulfill our wildest fantasies, it'll still be the best space-building sandbox since Gmod Spacebuild (I consider this to be the pinnacle of space-building games, only because it was the only one that wasn't Minecraft in space. It was, at the very least, original.) That's all I have to say this evening, as I'm typing on a really crappy Logitech wireless thing, and it's really uncomfortable.
Does this have PVP sort of thing, like in Starmade?

The thing we have to realize about Star Citizen is that the guy behind it is capable of promising the world... And delivering it. It's actually really impressive.
