I stole this from you somewhat and made my own version of it.
I'm about to steal this cockpit design from both of you because it reminds me of a ship i ended up having to visit quite often in hazeron. It kept the empire alive, always in deep space, always dark and quiet.
my framerate already crawls like an abused captive lemur already... Imagine a full load of 360 fighters and 8 patrol ships. I need to get in touch with the NSA and have them lend me a super computer. I need to do this.
How armoured is the thing?

Small ship gravity generators, glass, ramps, and chairs please.
Small ship gravity generators
Why? I mean, I guess you could do some tricky things with them, but in terms of pure functionality, there's no need
glass, ramps,
Late, we've had both for a while now
and chairs please.
Though technically we already have "chairs" in the form of pilot consoles, more interior stuff would be nice,
Is ramming a viable battle tactic with a heavy armor prow? My 40k retribution class battleship feels.... lacking if cant ram heretics.
Why? I believe what he wants is much like everyone else which means small ship was in front of everything he said there. No g generator yet for small ships ofc, no glass yet, no ramps (but its just for similar use of a 2x1 block replacement, much like large ships main use for ramps now) Chairs would be needed for when small ships got glass to have something else as your "cockpit". Because with glass for small ships you could design your own one for a fighter or such. I also believe that adding doors for small ships would complete that list as its a list which would allow small ships to easier take a shape of medium scale between a fighter and a large ship, (interior lights for small ships too now that I think more about it). But for making small ships capable of doing this medium sized ship you can see it quickly adds up to some huge update thats not so easy to get done in their normal dev time for a update. + what I have seen with these devs is that they add something, and if it didn't have something (like small ship glass) when it was added then it wont be worked again until the games nearly completed (but they ofc fix bugs and such though).
Whoops, you were totally right, I misread what he said. I thought he said only small ship gravgens and was just listing off the other things, not listing off things that should all be added to small ships like "small ship..." would indicate as a prefix. I think the reason we don't have chairs and doors and gravgens and such for small ships is that they're meant to be self-contained, and the biggest intended space for a player to be inside of a small ship is the cockpit. Of course, people build big small ships, but it's been evident so far in how the devs have illustrated this kind of thing to us with examples that they want interiors to be the domain of large ships. Which, again, is why there is glass, int. blocks, gravgens, and so forth for large ships and not small ones.

So I tried making a ship that somewhat resembles the IMC Barge from Titanfall's Intro: (0:54) It worked out pretty okay, considering it's the biggest ship I've ever made: Now I have a problem. I figured out about 90% through building this that seperating the engines with motors makes the game consider them as ships of their own, meaning I have no control over the engines from the cockpit of the main body. I can rotate em just fine but I don't have 4 pilots to power them. Worst of all, when they're turned on they resist the main body's motions and because they have more engine power than the main ship they do it pretty well. Any way to get control to the main ship?
Any way to get control to the main ship?
not at the moment but it is a pretty highly requested feature so something might happen with that. i'm not sure if they'll make them controllable like you want but i can see some kinda rotating thruster at some point if it's requested enough.
Pretty sure you cant with rotors sadly [editline]5th May 2014[/editline] Ninja'd
Is there a way to make the engines rotate without rotors and still control them?
Small ship gravity generators, glass, ramps, and chairs please.
I'd kill for command chairs (and glass ofc) for small ships. For some reason I have more luck building small ships than large. [editline]5th May 2014[/editline]
Is there a way to make the engines rotate without rotors and still control them?
As of right now, there isn't. [editline]5th May 2014[/editline]
I think the reason we don't have chairs and doors and gravgens and such for small ships is that they're meant to be self-contained, and the biggest intended space for a player to be inside of a small ship is the cockpit. There is evidence of devs changing their mind regarding what should be in the game and what shouldn't. I'd say the explanation is the devs haven't gotten around to implement them yet. :v:
I now released my 1:1 scaled Constitution Class heavy cruiser: [img_thumb]http://cloud-4.steampowered.com/ugc/468683188599642683/DD5912E10FF7354CA8B908842A961019BDDD5DE6/[/img_thumb] It was made to look like the one from the Star trek into darkness movie. That looks brilliant, did you also place the manoeuvring thrusters in similar places to the movie? [editline]5th May 2014[/editline] Downloading this soon. Where are the sideways thrusters?
That looks brilliant, did you also place the manoeuvring thrusters in similar places to the movie?
I got 12 maneuvering thrusters visible on the disc, up/down. The rest I decided to hide in the nacelles. I know there was something on the side of them but if you really also want those then its possible to put them there on your own. The ones in the nacelles are put in a way so their thruster effect isn't visible on the outside.
Here's hoping they make it like GMod where you can assign shit to the numpad. I'd fucking love to be able to slap thrusters onto rotors, pressing W or a Numpad button makes it so the back thruster thrusts regardless of direction, we could make some really fun hovercrafts with that.

Finally got the cockpit part of my ship, and realized it looks horrible. [t]http://puu.sh/8AmmG.jpg[/t] How would you guys reccomend doing it? [editline]5th May 2014[/editline] I'll try making it lower with a slopier slope
I think the 'neck' just needs to be a bit wider and the top a little less tall.
How's this? [t]http://puu.sh/8AngG.jpg[/t] Or this? [t]http://puu.sh/8Anv3.jpg[/t]
I'd say the upper one, the lower one seems too high.
The first one looks okay.
Ok, thank's guys, I'll lower it to that
I think you need to bevel the lip that sticks out around the windows. Put slopes leading up to the windows basically.
That moment when the last reactor is blown up and the ship goes adrift, surrounded by a slowly-expanding cloud of shredded debris. Fuckin awesome.
How's this? [t]http://puu.sh/8AngG.jpg[/t] Or this? [t]http://puu.sh/8Anv3.jpg[/t]
I'd say it's just too big in general. it's way too big of a target in relation to your ship and looks like it could be shot off a little too easily [editline]5th May 2014[/editline] This is my new ship. I called it The Shark I would put up more pics but I feel like I'd be flooding the page with them.
How armoured is the thing?
At least a single layer of heavy armor all over the ship, at some spots(namely the generator and gyro spots) i have 2-3 layers of heavy armor. I think the thickest is 5 layers at very rear, but only for a 5x5 space. There's no need for excessively thick armor, the thing is fucking massive, not like a small hull breach is gonna bring the thing down.
This is my new ship. I called it The Shark.
Needs more side Thrusters.
