I'd say it's just too big in general. it's way too big of a target in relation to your ship and looks like it could be shot off a little too easily [editline]5th May 2014[/editline] This is my new ship. I called it The Shark -images- I would put up more pics but I feel like I'd be flooding the page with them.
Yeah, I think that too, although I was trying to get it a similar size the original ship. [t]http://puu.sh/8Az4q.jpg[/t] Also, that ship of yours looks really nice, I love the engine placement and fancy slopes
amazing how a ship so huge can look so plastic and toy-like maybe i'm just a greeble freak
you guys have all these awesome ships, and I can't even make anything cool because I have no imagination
you guys have all these awesome ships, and I can't even make anything cool because I have no imagination
I mostly just steal the best ideas I see here and then do them my way and by do them my way I mean make a lot of mistakes over and over again until it looks okay

If you want anymore photos of the ship. Just ask.
I finished my first spaceship today, I hated how it turned out so I crashed into an asteroid and blew it up
came up with this nice cockpit design then built a really bad ship around it [t]http://i.cubeupload.com/I3jDrL.jpg[/t] it's hard trying to keep a functional ship small, the dev ships are genius if you really look at them
alright think i got something workable out of it [t]http://i.cubeupload.com/n3hpQp.jpg[/t] [t]http://i.cubeupload.com/ZwGtXU.jpg[/t] [t]http://i.cubeupload.com/xNc78A.jpg[/t][t]http://i.cubeupload.com/ra19wH.jpg[/t] it's not small but it is practical, i guess. missiles can be fed into the launchers from the interior, conveyor system for reactors, med station, it's maneuverable and there's an assembler in there somewhere. on the other hand, no conveyor system for the turrets because it would take up a retarded amount of space and it has no real industrial capabilities which makes it feel kind of pointless imo.
really cool
looks a little bit like the ship from prometheus

Excellent use of lighting and interior design, I think.
This has probably been asked before, but do you guys find building larger ships or smaller ships easier? I'm new to this game and finishing my first ship (small ship) seemed really time consuming. I wish I could lock my player from rolling so I could just strafe around what I'm building. I'm probably doing something wrong, but learning about the control and shift modifiers when placing objects make things go a little more smoothly.
I find building (small) large ships the most enjoyable
Is ramming a viable battle tactic with a heavy armor prow? My 40k retribution class battleship feels.... lacking if cant ram heretics.
i guess if you enjoy having to repair half the prow+defacing the holy aquila then sure (79kt ship impacting at 70m/s)
I find it a massive pain when playing with my mates and we see a military ship so we get there and there a shit loads of turrets but none of them will shoot us :/ I feel like the game is boring a bit since every ship we raid or anything just simple wont shoot us at all.
[t]http://i.cubeupload.com/n3hpQp.jpg[/t]
I love cosy-looking interiors like that.

Now that's extra heretical.
I thought the Holy Aquila was the symbol of the Emperor, not the ship... Am I wrong?
The Aquila is the symbol of the Imperium of Man and it's usually put at the head of the ship.
The Aquila is the symbol of the Imperium of Man and it's usually put at the head of the ship.
Makes sense. It's been a while.
ALPHA
Is not an excuse for half-implemented features. I'd rather have a small number of deep and complete features than a huge amount of unfinished features that don't interact or produce emergent behaviour.

THEN, they can go deeper because they'll know their time won't be wasted by investing work into a system they might get rid of later.

it's absolutely okay to complain over features in an alpha game, how do you think feedback would have been if everyone said "but it's an alpha, you can't complain!" that said, it's not right to expect complete features either.
Alpha has historically been a stage of bare minimum testing and beta is where they refine said features and do exactly what you said they should be doing right now.

How long is it people have been requesting proper 2x1 slopes, more interior blocks and more engine sizes? Granted, they did make it possible to paint more types of blocks which is nice.
Alpha has historically been a stage of bare minimum testing and beta is where they refine said features and do exactly what you said they should be doing right now.
I guess I just feel like the features should be refined first rather than adding in a small number of features per update, and maybe coming back to the old ones in several weeks or months. Starsetor is the only game I was following development of for a while now so I guess I am used to getting one huge but extremely polished feature per update, though granted the update cycle on that game is horribly long. Please don't take this as me trying to criticise Space Engineers as a game, I absolutely love it for what it is. These days very few games are able to give the same sense of achievement and I can't stay interested for long, but Space Engineers always felt like the best parts of Garry's Mod (at least, the sandbox part of it) and Minecraft combined. But to me, saying "it's alpha!" always looks like a hand-waving excuse to postpone polishing features to me.
a friend got me this game and i have to say its pretty enjoyable. we've been playing survival together and a running gag has developed that we are drowning in potato ships(rescue ships) because of how many times they die. however i never get one because i always respawn at the med bay on our station. so i had to fix my lack of a spudship. But for now without factions in and having the turrets told to shoot everyone unknown im sure you would love to play the game when even your creations are killing you. They added decoys and large ship missile launchers + enabled some large ship turrets because people wanted to be able to use their large ships to destroy stuff and to see how the weapons would work. Don't know what the next update would be but it could be factions if you are lucky. But there is also much more demanded functionality like Dedicated servers and possibly some other stuff which I don't remember right now.
Learn more, talk less. Understand that "Alpha" and "Beta" are development phases, not misleadingly labelled pre-order marketing campaigns invented by publishers.
The critical difference is, I've already paid all I'm ever going to pay for the game. Minecraft has shown that sometimes the "paid alpha" model results in the real bug-fixing ground work being ignored in favor of an intermittently scheduled series of gimmick updates as sales peter out and the funding dries up. It incentivizes developers to put out updates aimed at attracting more attention and sales in the short term, rather than fixing long-term problems. This just results in an "infinite alpha" situation where things like functionality, optimization, and stability never reach what people expect out of a completed game they paid for. It's not the same as waiting three years then paying $60 for a game, but the paid alpha business model is not without inherent issues.
