I always feel nervous about posting WIPs but I think once my ship is done you won't be able to really see all the work in it. Should I post pics of my Serenity/Galactica hybrid later tonight?
You don't draw or paint like this, neither do you make games in that manner.
I've never seen you in the art threads.

I feel nervous sometimes too, i understand, but aside from bickering amongst ourselves, we're quite alright here. I'd like to see what you have.
Made my first ship since I got the game. [t]http://i.imgur.com/mNCkmBM.jpg[/t] The rest: http://imgur.com/a/Aahvp
One thing I wish they did was a way to have something "bigger on the inside" so you can have small ships but bigger interiors like the TARDIS. Yeah, it may defeat the object in survival but if there was at least a limit to how big the interior was, it'd be fun. More of a gimmick thing really :v:

[editline]7th May 2014[/editline] also doors for small ships

[editline]7th May 2014[/editline] also doors for small ships
sort of along the same lines, i'd really really like a bubble canopy for small ships. bubble canopies make me so horny like the regular cockpit is all right but it lacks the FUTURE AIRCRAFT appeal that you get with modern fighter jets like the F16 and the F18 and F22 etc.
I mean like having a small blue box on the outside but an entire ship inside. Actually I remember someone did a mod for that on Gmod, hopefully it will get modded into this by someone.

Makes no sense from an engineering standpoint. edit: for example, how are you going to stop people from adding a shit-ton of these blue boxes on their ship so they can fit a ridiculous amount of reactors/gyros for a super small form factor? Are you going to make it so you can only add "decorative" items? What's the point. It'd be annoying to balance and wouldn't really add anything useful to the game other than "check out this cool lounge on my small ship guys"
we understand what you mean, but the idea is stupid because it's unrealistic and goes against the entire point of the game. Makes no sense from an engineering standpoint.
Neither do magic gravity fields.
Neither do magic gravity fields.
lot easier to balance those and they have a lot of creative uses in the game. it's kind of like the devs' opinions on energy shields. wouldn't add much, doesn't make a lot of sense, and it would be hard to balance.
Neither do magic gravity fields.
Well, although it hasnt been completely explored, if you could produce a high torque, high speed multi-rotational axis with a large mass, you could simulate gravity. The generators represent that but in an easy size.
dis game [t]http://i.cubeupload.com/aPnJAJ.jpg[/t]
Just bought into this game, since it shows promise and all that, my only gripe being how stupid the mouse to aim ships idea was. Super sensitive outside of piloting, which is nice, but the second I pilot the pre-built ships, I'm dragging my mouse across my mouse pad like it's going out of style. I might see about rebinding that, or using a joystick for piloting.
Use the arrow keys.
I love you.

It would be something to mess about with in creative mode.
I love you.
also add more gyroscopes. you clearly dont have enough.
Neither do magic gravity fields.
I dislike when people use the *one* example the game has of an unrealistic mechanic as some kind of justification for other silly ideas. The devs have stated time and time again that they aren't entirely satisfied with the way they've decided to implement a gravity emulation mechanism, but had to make the compromise for the sake of gameplay. Don't even say "magnetic boots", they tried that. We have magnetic boots. It's just called a gravity generator instead. The actual concept is, for the most part, identical. If you're clever, you can even get an identical result. Really, though, what I'm saying is that we shouldn't be looking to this game to give an exact view of reality. It's a game about mining asteroids and building ships in space. Nothing about that is realistic in the time frame the developers claim it takes place in. If it were, it'd be "Budget Cut Engineers." There's very little engineering in the game, and the developers often try to avoid it for more accessible, gamier elements. We should realize that the game is called Space Engineers because it's a catchy title, not because it's completely representative of the content of the actual game. Engineering is not taking a welder or a circular saw to giant metal cubes to make really blocky spaceships. Engineering would be designing the circuitry and systems of the ship, or having to factor in structural engineering, both things Keen doesn't have plans for at all. We're playing Space Minecraft. It's fun, but it's not engineering, and it's nowhere near realistic. That said, having non-Euclidian spaces is ridiculous, on gameplay purposes alone. Same with shields.

It's a moderately hard-SF building game, but it sure as hell ain't engineering by any stretch of the imagination. I'd love to see some more stuff to make it, well, more of an engineering game, but that would make it very inaccessible for many users and I can see why they don't do it. Things like stress, center of mass and thrust being more important (currently only matters with artificial mass blocks and when attached to stuff with landing gear), reactor design, etc. also spaceship [t]http://i.imgur.com/KjOotFQ.jpg[/t]
Now if only we had grouping... A man can dream.
Grouping might be coming very soon, although keybinding might still be a slight way off. When's the usual patch, Thursday?

this is more entertaining than I thought
You should use a wider saw field, and red/orange lights for that "welcome to the gates of ship hell" look.
Nah I'm ok with the "industrial scale ship shredder" look
Yellow doesn't exactly give off that vibe though.
I'm gonna make more police-class transforming vehicles. Tagline? "In space no cop can hear you comply."
"In space, no one can hear you yell 'POLICE BRUTALITY' "
