Space Engineers - Say goodbye to Starmade and Blockade runner.

i made a reasonably (in SE terms) sized 40k ship
main feature: able to have more than 1 per map without your fps dropping to 5

We really need some sort of ramming plate. Something that takes less damage from kinetic sources but more damage from explosives and the like, I dunno.
I started a creative game with asteroids set to cataclysm.
It's fucking impossible to build anything. Armageddon must be a constant stream of rocks hitting everything
Armageddon is literally large flaming rocks being thrown at you for no reason other than to end all life in space. Easystart 2 wasn't even able to keep up with all the chaos, the asteroid base was fucked up pretty quick and both large ships were smashed to bits within a few minutes as well, or at least barely functional.
Are we posting specs now?
i7 3670QM
16GB DDR3
2x GT 750M 2GB
The game doesn't really take advantage of SLI and honestly doing lots of mining in a gravity field slows things down to a crawl.

The best you can really do right now is use heavy armor, but I agree.

Sad to say it, but the asteroids update was probably the least satisfying content addition they've done.

I thought it was hilarious. The only bad part being that they just kinda explode and cause damage, no debris or floating rocks after they hit. Otherwise I'm enjoying the carnage.
I don't think it's really possible to keep up with Armageddon level meteors with something as large as the easystart 2 base. I tried plastering the thing with turrets but the problem is they keep tracking meteors that have already passed the station.
why are you using the old model? the new temp is grorius
agree, old temp is gross. New tempest is one of the best looking ships ingame
what? you probably only need like 4-5 turrets to defend easy start 2, just turn the radius down on the turrets

I think that if they had them blow up into debris it would make the engine in its current state have a very bad day. I agree otherwise, the fact that they just act like disguised missiles is kind of boring. I wish they'd rely solely on kinetic damage and there were more little ones, so instead of big, devastating impacts, it'd be more like a short, intense shower that erodes your hull a bit. It'd be a pain to repair all of the erosion along the whole surface of your ship on the side directly facing the oncoming shower, so it'd still pose a threat through cumulative hull integrity loss, but it'd be much less ridiculous and devastating than just slinging gigantic exploding boulders at the player.
I'd much prefer it if the threat was physics-based and not explosion-based.
Call me the worst engineer in the world, but what are your approaches to ship building? im looking through the forums and seeing sleek/intricate designs and massive colossal beauties and all tthat i can come up with are space rectangles and atrocious designs that id rather detonate with warheads than fly :suicide:
sneak peek just for you guys

I need to know the song :v:

I found it out, it's "trough the night" by Grum (again :v:)

wish i could turn off the lasers
Does anyone know what is the soundtrack that plays sometimes that has alot of drum play?
It sounds really similar to a track in their previous game (miner wars 2081) called Battle Suite (Part II)?
I searched through the unpacked game files, but I couldn't find it ...
Here's the song if you can't find the ost

How?
So I'm considering making the Harbinger/ a Hammerhead-class cruiser. It's the one from KotOR:

My modular ship ended up looking terrible no matter how much I tried to fix it, so I blew it up. Maybe recreating a ship would be a better way to properly introduce myself to ship design, rather than trying to build my own from scratch.

A series of rotors set to open held in place by landing gears until you want them to pop out?
When is the hiddenrotorpart thing going to be fixed?
I've got 3 new Police Ships up and working, but I need at least 6 before I film the sequel.
It will be worth the wait.

Fixed that for you.
Okay, so we got control groups
This already makes subsystems like gravity drives much simpler to use, since you can just toggle the whole array of artificial mass blocks and gravgens with one click.
Fixed that for you.
I don't get it.

Also, this could be further improved on by balancing armor sort of metallurgically. So, say, you can choose between harder or 'tougher' steel used in your armor. Steel with higher toughness is better at absorbing energy but will warp under the strain of ramming, so it takes less damage from guns but more from ramming, whilist harder steel is more likely to shatter when hit but won't warp and bend when ramming or being rammed.
Now we just need bindable control-groups so we can either press a keyboard...key or an in-game button to do shit for us.
[editline]9th May 2014[/editline]
also shit will be great for Raptors! when stuff connected with motors all is part of the same ship, meaning you can have functioning guns on rotors.

gotta keep in mind that ramming will probably be super inefficient in survival because of the amount of time and resources you have to dedicate towards maintaining a ship like that. just one heavy armor block takes like a minute to build, and if you want any kind of spike that's like almost half an hour gone right off the bat. and then when you crash you need to do it all again if you weren't just killed by the impact.
the only real pro that ramming has is that you can't really be stopped unless someone manages to take out your forwards thrusters, but that's not really a problem for a ship that can just move out of the way.
