I think being able to manually control the turrets (either via the pilot or a seperate seat) would be better since you'd want to hit certain points of a ship in a battle instead of unloading everything everywhere
To control turrets manually though control consoles elsewhere would be pretty cool.
My point wasn't about that. You can already do that in Space Engineers. Picking up items, pressing buttons, etc. That's what you're describing. What I meant by my post, which everyone disagreed with so quickly, without trying to understand, is that (possibly), you can't point at a ship and let it target that ship. The game may not know the difference. Imagine you're the game engine. You see: ship, ship, ship, ship, ship, rocket, meteorite. And now, you need to target ship. Not ship, not ship, not rocket, but ship. What they need to do, is write a couple of lines of code into the engine that will let the game identify ships with unique tags/code/numbers/doesn't matter in the game code. Then you will be able to point at it, and your turrets will target that ship and no other ship. [editline]dicks[/editline] Now that we have that out of the way, I really hope they add ctrl/shift selection for the inventory, and optimize the sorting a bit. It's a pain distributing items from your 45 grinders to one container.
For the game to work properly there has to be something that separates the various entities. It wasn't a lack of understanding that caused everyone to disagree, it was because you were wrong. The entities may not have different names, but they must have an ID or something else that makes them different, otherwise you would never be able to have more than 1 ship, 1 asteroid, 1 block, 1 character, etc. Both the aim trace and the separate entities must already exist in the game for the game to function as it currently does.
I think the turrets being not directly controllable would be a decent way of balancing them, assuming we get more fixed-direction weapons like the large ship rocket pod. If not, it'd get boring rather fast to have only large rocket pods as player-controlled. Turrets have fast tracking, fairly decent accuracy, but aren't smart enough to target weak points. Whereas the large rocket pod (and hopefully we get a bullet-based equivalent) fires faster and is entirely under the control of the player, but relies on the player's skill entirely for being able to hit targets.

Turrets already select targets and shoot at them. All those targets have an ID or else you couldn't reference them in order to get their position and shoot at them. Turrets will target everything because factions don't exist yet.
They should really be tweaking already added stuff or if they're going to add new stuff it should be things like new blocks/pieces, like fucking long corner pieces so I can use ramps and fill those corner parts with solid pieces and not glass.
And corners like these: [editline]16th May 2014[/editline] And the inverse, while we're wishing.
Aren't those already ingame? [editline]16th May 2014[/editline] Oh wait you mean the 2x1 ramps. Wait do you?
The green corner pieces in the diagram are already in yes, but not the yellow ones What we have is just a flat diagonal piece rather than a cornered piece [editline]16th May 2014[/editline] It would be nice to have that in glass and 2x1 formats too
No, those pieces are not in the game. And I'm not talking about ramps. I'm saying we need those in addition to the ramps 2x1 pieces GHOST!!!! described. Currently, the only 1x1x1 corner piece in the game has triangles on all sides. I'm talking about a piece that is square at the bottom. [editline]16th May 2014[/editline] One of these things is not like the other. Hint: The gray one is in the game, the green is not. Unless you can find me a screenshot that proves otherwise.
Ah....right
The limits of block based building systems eh.
yeah but why not have both and with my one being significantly easier to implement then why not just implement that rather than not [editline]16th May 2014[/editline] automated turrets would make it too easy anyway, it would just turn attacking into a war of attrition with whoever runs out of ammo/turrets first
Hardly. That's what the turret decoys are for, you shoot a few of those into their area of effectiveness and then fly in and blow a few up.
Some other thing i've been working on. Got at least 5 saves of half-finished ships at this point (and the finishedness of the "finished" saves is highly debatable) [t]http://i.imgur.com/n3a4RW0.jpg[/t][t]http://i.imgur.com/Pi3HFCJ.jpg[/t] [t]http://i.imgur.com/MaMF52b.jpg[/t][t]http://i.imgur.com/3V6cQTB.jpg[/t]

No hidden thrusters, no gravity drive, no bullshit. It's not a warship; the armor is less than 1 block thick in many places and its only armaments are a single missile turret on the belly and an interior turret on the chin. I'm not happy with the interior but I built it within the shell of the exterior which I built first. As a result it was cramped, disorientating and frustrating to work inside so I'm pretty much done with it. Hopefully a good mod is released for furnishings (and hull greeble) so I can make all this stuff prettier.
I aint got shit on you with these 3D renders, I just have words.
But I got what you meant with your words. I couldn't come up with how to describe what I want with words, had to resort to pictures. But hey, Sketchup is free and easy to use, so BAM.
[t]http://i.imgur.com/Q1AeEbA.jpg[/t]
amazing try building the blockade runner next?
The blockade runner was actually one of the first things I tried, but gave up since it'd have to be enormous to have smooth round engines. The bridge would be the biggest challenge. I don't want to burn myself out so I'll take another shot at it some time in the future.
just make it slightly blockier, i think it'll be great either way then build a Star Destroyer to scale

Oh yeah and I've always wanted to have two-sided inverse corner blocks
for some reason the second shot fucks with my eyes
Well fuck, this is awsome
Now that's space engineering.
Well fuck, this is awsome
At first I thought this was a mod with scripting, and then I saw the gravity generators along the rails. It is interesting because instead of coding the course correction into the travelling unit, you are programming it into the environment.
I'd really like remote control modules. This way I could make a small ship that carries cheap USVs either for surveillance, sabotage, or mining in tight spaces
I'd really like remote control modules. This way I could make a small ship that carries cheap USVs either for surveillance, sabotage, or mining in tight spaces
Guided missiles could be a thing!
Guided missiles could be a thing!
Although guided missiles would be cool, it would be a pain in the ass to have to keep making them. I'd make a guided bomb that can secretly attach itself to a ship and blow up the thrusters or a reactor Or decoy ships Thinking about it now, a guided missile would just need explosives, a gyroscope, and a thruster
