we should also add autobans back it will make me snigger
I finished my first large ship. It's not the prettiest but it's got one hell of a cannon on it, an observation deck, a bridge, and living quarters for captain, engineers, and guests.
Well, activity has gone down to near radio-silence on the dev skype chat and the forums are slowly starting to overflow of new players posting things in the wrong sections and by randomly posting meme's everywhere. A drama within the community is destined to happen. [editline]d[/editline] People absolutely disgust the 'nazi' rules we have here on Facepunch so coming anything close as having a kind of quality standard for posts is not gonna happen.
Well, I'm not on your forums, but if it's realy an issue, make nazi rules with automated nazi bots? Or simply add subforums to suggestions or maybe a , or put a big 'what not to post/what's already been posted' on each page.
Was trying to make a heavy bomber design (i.e. like a rocket fighter but with the advantage of autoloading and higher fire rate). Turned out to be about as agile as a sack of lead potatoes. Not that functionality was the primary design consideration; if it was, I wouldn't have added a "SHOOT ME IN THE FACE" cockpit design. more gyros is always the answer to agility
more gyros is always the answer to agility
It's not the rotation that's the problem, it's the up/down/side thrust; it basically slides all over the place if you turn while moving forward at any sort of speed.
how much does it weigh?
Looks like it's made of mostly heavy armour which wouldn't do the inertia any favours.
I like facepunch's moderation style. I love that I can say ass fuck piss shit cock baloons and as long as Im not 100% off topic, posting shit memes, or being a flaming cockbasket Im fine.
how much does it weigh?
1,180,556 kg
Looks like it's made of mostly heavy armour which wouldn't do the inertia any favours.
Yeah, basically :v: There's some gaps on the inside filled in with light armour, but it's mostly heavy. I'll be doing a completely new design of the same concept, except this time i'll probably start on the interior first, which should allow me to get it more compact, and will also only use heavy armour on important bits. I might do 2 versions, one with and without the exposed cockpit, since it is basically begging for a rocket barrage to the face. [editline]18th May 2014[/editline] Not sure whether I should go for something much lighter, relying on agility not to get hit. Considering the accuracy of rocket turrets, it would probably just make more sense to have a small ship with many rocket launchers instead. [editline]18th May 2014[/editline] Lined up all the ships I still have saves for (which is all but 2-3 small ships and one survival large ship) into one, since my saves folder was getting cluttered. Got a version without SS Greeble, since it basically halves the framerate on it's own. Surprisingly it can nowadays move without too much physics slowdown. Can't remember when I gave it the grimdark paintjob, though. Also removed the turrets from the old ships designed before conveyors were functional, since they had absolutely ridiculous amounts of them basically slapped all over the hull, and that was causing massive slowdown too. SS Greeble had something like 400. Well now I found a use for the 58k stone I have in my survival save, use a lot of connectors to launch a load of them at a ship with turrets to act as decoys.
Well now I found a use for the 58k stone I have in my survival save, use a lot of connectors to launch a load of them at a ship with turrets to act as decoys.
you should put it in a railgun
Got weight down to 760,000 and 690,000 (the lighter one also has many more side thrusters) Still doesn't handle particularly well, and the most agile one looks butt-ugly, so going to try a different approach. i've found that large thrusters are infinitely better than the little ones. Try using those instead of 9345 small ones.
i've found that large thrusters are infinitely better than the little ones. Try using those instead of 9345 small ones.
It took you this long to notice?
Made a shotgun gravity gun. 48 G gravitational acceleration, zero effect on target, all rock based projectiles simply bounce off targets. I was really disappointed.
i've found that large thrusters are infinitely better than the little ones. Try using those instead of 9345 small ones.
Makes the thing a lot wider, though. Nevertheless, probably will have to use them.
The size of a large thruster is 2x3x3, whereas the small is 1x1x2
The size of a large thruster is 2x3x3, whereas the small is 1x1x2
Isn't it 2x4x4? I've got all the reactors, cargo containers and gyros stuffed in the space between the thrusters currently, large ones would either have to poke out and be even more vulnerable, or make the ship wider. EDIT: my bad, 2x3x4
i finally got to the point where im happy with my fighter. my main focus was to disable, not destroy the npc ships and i just couldn't get that from a large hull. [t]http://i.imgur.com/czj2kAc.png[/t] after a bunch of runs on the npcs i replaced the blocks that took the most fire with heavy armor leaving the ship still fairly nimble. best strategy i found is to just hang 550 meters away and plink the turrets off though. [t]http://i.imgur.com/J466Y6a.png[/t] i may have gone a bit overboard with this one. i hope we get adjustable gun convergence in the future so the machine guns can be focused to a specific range.
fuck
Made a shotgun gravity gun. 48 G gravitational acceleration, zero effect on target, all rock based projectiles simply bounce off targets. Also 48G is way too much tbh, the rock will just start warping through stuff when you incfrease their size to be able to do anything.
I need some help tomorrow doing some combat stress testing of some fighters. Anyone down to help me? It's nothing complex. Dogfighting capabilities, Statistic comparisons. You've got to be willing to do a lot of dogfights though. I need a lot of data, and i have a lot of fighters that need testing.
Struggling to come up with a decent colour scheme for my Explorer ship, any suggestions? (mostly replacing the blue with something that looks better) [thumb]http://cloud-4.steampowered.com/ugc/450669858489835555/FFDEEDD6F31FED831689AA016B53F1DBF8818E06/[/thumb]
a less saturated blue
I also don't really like these yellows out of nowhere, they look like tumors.
I also don't really like these yellows out of nowhere, they look like tumors.
Hazard stripes (sort of) for the turret mountings, it's meant to be a ship crewed by people where refilling the ammo is done manually for reasons. So hazard warnings are kinda part of the design.

I like the idea of survival but I hate actually building because it takes so god damn long to weld shit and you can't use symmetry anyway I wanted to do a cool ship for survival, like the ultimate survival base/ship, built in creative though so it's a little extravagant :v: 8 refineries (because uranium takes too damn long), 8 external large crates and 6 internal large crates, 2 assemblers and collectors/connectors for other ships to deposit and refill, connected with conveyors and shit so it can all be controlled from the bridge [img_thumb]http://puu.sh/8SrX7.png[/img_thumb][img_thumb]http://puu.sh/8Ss8x.png[/img_thumb] there's a space for a drilling rig or large craft, also the bridge came out too tall but the view is cool [img_thumb]http://puu.sh/8Ssdk.png[/img_thumb][img_thumb]http://puu.sh/8Ssmz.png[/img_thumb] oh there's also a gravity drive so you can actually move without using a million fuel
It looks pretty bitchin', I really like the design of the bridge
