not sure im a fan of the changes in the game design of the connector system. the removal of the dual port on the large connector means that for my small fighter craft, the small connector won't be good enough to automatically refuel it. Previously they were planning to do that. :S\ edit: after seeing them in game, the way engines are rounded like seed pods is very ugly in a game where everything is angular. whats the conveyor frame do? it doesnt seem to act like a thin conveyor or something, at least thats not working for me
small tubes can move fuel. edit: oh wait i can see what you're saying
whats the conveyor frame do? it doesnt seem to act like a thin conveyor or something, at least thats not working for me
works fine for me
got it working. i had to replace the pre-patch small ship cargo containers.
Whats the range on the large and small welders, does anyone know? Quick test shows it welds stuff 3 blocks wide, not sure how far it extends to tall and depth though, though it seems it only does it one block depth. ON large blocks with the large welder at least its 3 in y , 3 in z and 1 in x, which is dissapointing, since if you have like 3 layers you need to build deep, you could only do them one layer at a time, which kinda slows thigns down.
damn, i just finished my grinder ship last night. if i knew small ship grinders were coming i wouldn't have spent all that time. Looks really nice, the catwalks on the sides look good too
I'd go with large grinders anyway; the small ones seem to be rather slow and can't grind as large an area as a large one. The welders are more worthwhile, since they're smaller than the larger ones it's easier to get into tighter spaces with it (as long as you're careful about thruster damage). Though it'd make more sense to do a ship in easy-to-reach weldable layers rather than doing the entire frame and trying to squeeze a small welder ship into it.
Have ore detectors stopped working?
Once we get better integration of rotor control and possible robotics we can make automatic repair bays which would be super neat on a carrier
I Dislike the model for large thrusters. The block bit is too wide when you consider the size of the barrel in the centre. It's wasted space. Also, I still want a square shaped thruster so that I can put many thrusters together to look like one seamless big one.
I don't want different size thrusters. I want differently modeled thrusters, different shapes to the actual thruster element. Let me have some more aesethetic choice. Maybe that can be handled by mods, but I'd like multiple different shapes to the same size thrusters. Also, multi directional thrusters are a must. Please, please for the love of god give us those as well as full fledged rotor control.
I want a linear aerospike style thruster model for large ships. [t]http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/8/8c/Twin_Linear_Aerospike_XRS-2200_Engine_PLW_edit.jpg[/t] I think that would look cool as hell.

Although it would be more efficient to have a thruster with rotation capabilities for something smaller like a remote controlled missile or disposable probe
All my utility and fighter craft have been fucked by the conveyor rework Sonofabitch [editline]dumbe[/editline] Or I was on the wrong save like a dumbass, whoopsie
Now I can make my ship autobuilder, aw yeah
Can a welder repair blocks on a ship that it's attached to? If so; self-repairing hangar floors and rams ahoy.
just a heads up. there is a pretty nasty bug right now in survival where when your welding an unfinished block it will continue to add materials from your inventory even if the block your welding has everything it needs. i just lost almost a thousand construction components :suicide:
Can a welder repair blocks on a ship that it's attached to? If so; self-repairing hangar floors and rams ahoy.
Nope it can't.
You can however attach the welders to a rotor or with landing gear. I made a saucer shaped ship that can weld its own dents with a slowly spinning pair of welders.
edit: after seeing them in game, the way engines are rounded like seed pods is very ugly in a game where everything is angular.
I don't even mind the fact that they're rounded, I just hate that they funnel inward. That's not efficient for space, and to use that with a high thrust magnetoplasmadynamic drive or chemical engine you would need to build the nozzle out of unobtainium for it to withstand the heat. [editline]22nd May 2014[/editline]
Have ore detectors stopped working?
They seem to not work for hosts at times and usually do for clients. It seems to go away if you build an ore detector, then use your drill again.
i want a really sci-fi looking thruster. these look like i welded jet engines to my ship. the blocks are square, ships are square-y, so give it a square thruster, or something like the f-22's if you're gonna go the jet route.

I agree about the jet engine thing though, they look like oversized high pressure nozzles for in-atmo operation. :v:

For that solar system scale they talked about doing (something like 1 year or so from now).
solar system scale as in a solar system's worth of spess rocks they never hinted at planetary interaction
i could see some kinda relatively large asteroid moon like Adrastea but then the gravity would be so low that it would basically be pointless anyway [editline]23rd May[/editline] and they would have to come up with proper spheroid gravity which i'm not sure is doable
and they would have to come up with proper spheroid gravity which i'm not sure is doable
Uhh... why?
Maybe their design will make more sense if they introduce planets. For that solar system scale they talked about doing (something like 1 year or so from now).
its not going to be the size of the solar system that is just the theoretical limit the engine can handle with sectors. Good luck having a harddrive big enough and be able to wait decades getting anywhere at 104 m/s
Uhh... why?
well i'm just not sure, they could probably do it if they wanted to, but with the opposition they've expressed to the idea in the past and the way that gravity is currently handled i imagine there would be some hiccups
