How do you actually obtain components in creative mode? It doesn't seem possible - they just vanish.

You can get in with just your suit. Let it drift past you such that you can get to the bottom of the ship. If you know where the bridge is, you can grind through a single block to get to it, and then shut off all the turrets. Alternatively, bring components to build something you can access the terminal with.

Infiltrating it by suit is impossible since the turrets are programmed to fire at everything that moves. I just strapped 12 missile launchers onto my ship and blew it apart hoping that if I fired enough missiles at it, the turrets would be too busy targeting the missiles to target me. I was hoping to scavenge around inside of it but I ended up blowing it in several pieces made up of just heavy armor.

If you stay still, the turrets won't fire. Use that fact, and position yourself to end up in a turret blindspot when the ship drifts past. [editline]8th June 2014[/editline] They also won't fire if you're moving at 2m/s or less, so you can make small, gradual adjustments if needed.
