Space Engineers - Say goodbye to Starmade and Blockade runner.

Picked this up last night and played around with it for a few minutes before having to start homework. Rather nice.
I hate Steam's first time setups. They take for ever! And it's pointless. I've installed these packages for every friggin game I own, why can't they all just refer to one?
I cant find the fix for higher memory useage ingame as my battlecruiser is now making me crash.
Ain't got a lot of reference images, but this dude made it in KSP...
Quick question. Is this game worth getting?
Personally, I'm gonna wait for real features beyond just building ships and crashing them.
Looks great, but I think I'll just get bored as is.
I'm curious as to how the 2 different lights work. I know the reflectives are basically like HL2's flashlight i.e. dynamic, directional shadow-casting lights, which'd explain lag they cause, but the smaller ones I can have (and indeed do) hundreds of them with no FPS hit.
Small lights don't cause shadows.
Small lights don't cause shadows.
Is that all there is to it? I was under the impression it sort of baked the light onto whatever it was attached to, but then again I haven't seen how the light reacts to floating debris near it. That I shall test.
I started too big project again god damn it this game takes all my time. Anyway I was trying to build the Goa'uld mothership but I have no idea how I should make the structure around the pyramid. So I just started doing my own stuff and added hangar in the middle. Not sure If I should make another hangar under it or start working on the outer structure for weapons and thrusters. I also need to make small pyramid ships..
I hate hate hate hate how the Goa'uld motherships look. Something about deadly pyramids just irks me. Either way, nice job. Isn't there supposed to be stuff around the pyramid too?

Not all of them have that extra stuff though, some are just flying pyramids.
If I recall, motherships have the extra stuff around them, Hataks don't.

I though Hataks were motherships?
Are we sure they're not baby-mama ships?
Yeah I have been thinking about how to make the stuff around the pyramid but haven't really figured it out, right now I'm just trying out something totally different. I'm not sure what to think about it..

Seems Ha'taks are both motherships and just ships, if I recall from the show, the ones with the black structure around the base usually were the ones used as flagship while the others didn't have any (this at the start of the show, later with Anubis all Ha'taks seemed to have it).
does anybody else get considerable lag on the Easy Start 2 map? I'm pushing fine around 60fps+ on extreme on every other map, but the second i load that one up I'm down to 20.
I hope they only add minimal sounds that you can only hear if you're touching the object so the sound can vibrate through direct contact.
Like you could hear the muffled chugga chugga chugga of the minigun fire vibrate through your fighter. Or when your large ship rams into another you'll hear that creepy metal moaning sound travel down the ship.
But no starwars style wooshes and pew pews.

If done correctly the "lack" of sound when concerning space can be even better than the stereotypical pewpewpews. I don't think anything could be more mystifying than jetpacking around and seeing two ships clash into a storm of gun volleys and debris to the soundtrack of light breathing and the internals of your spacesuit.
I really hope they go in that direction.
Honestly, I'd like a music player in the spacesuit. Import your own music, and have it apply some sort of spacesuit-sound filter... I think that'd be a neat touch.
Also, sound inside ships if they're sealed could be neat. Assuming they add atmospherics, it would make sense for sound to travel through the hallways while it's pressurized, only for it to fade out when you get a hole blasted in the side of the hull. I think they could really pull off some awesome stuff with a decent sound engine.
When I get this game(a bit low on money ATM) I will probably play this whilst flying.

That picture may be the single most horrifying thing I've seen all day... And I just got out of a Geology lab.
Got a bit further in between faffing about.

Behold, the flying... Um... Green Bay Packers?

The main structure isn't finished at all. I've gradually been building ships with the side engines more and more recessed into the main body.
Finally got the game to install and gave it a shot. I was right. It's going to be a long while before I can build anything spectacular. So I smashed it into the nearest asteroid.
It'll sort of be dong-shaped like the Thorax from EVE Online.
EDIT: My automerge :c
Haven't gotten to far into this yet, how do you change block colours?

[ and ]
and middle mouse button to apply.
If I get this game the first thing I'm gonna do is make a ship that looks like my avatar.
Then later on I'd probably make a huge one where all the waffle-holes are docks.
Edit: Goddamnit I want this game so much.
does anybody else build the interior of their ships first then the exterior or am I just retarded?
