Pistons in the next update
Time to punch ships with ship fists.

I'm just thinking it'll be far easier to make large doors with actual pistons, and hopefully some stability when being used on a moving ship.

now I'll have to make a humanoid shaped ship with a piston dick for smashing other's creations
Time to punch ships with ship fists.
I'm looking forward to making Jaeger fists now. [editline]16th July 2014[/editline]
I love how Rob tries so hard to give a shit about the game, but he just can't :v:
Pistons in the next week's update
If this allows me to make retractable flight pods like on the Battlestar Galactica I will be really happy. I haven't had the inspiration to build any new ships lately. I keep booting up Space Engineers and playing on my fleet world only to trash the ships with heavy armor torpedoes that have artificial mass in them that gets caught in the ships gravity or slamming ships into one another with artificial mass.

Once batteries are implemented, Id like to see a world option to severely decrease the amount of uranium generated so we have to be more creative about powering ships.

Oh wow, no pistons? Still, this is awesome.
Pistons are supposed to be in the next week's update
the copying onto existing ships will be very handy.
So... Basically, antennae within each others' broadcast radii will rebroadcast the position?
Oh, cool, batteries are modular. I think it's time to build another forklift, this time for swapping batteries.
Oh, cool, batteries are modular. I think it's time to build another forklift, this time for swapping batteries.
pistons will help you next week.
Oh wow, no pistons? Still, this is awesome.
What's not to understand in "next week's update"
Is it just me, or do the batteries charge REALLY SLOWLY?
My apologies if this has already been asked and answered but does anyone know how I can allow players on my (friends only, if that matters) server damage and steal NPC ships? I think what's happening is that when they spawn their ownership is set to me, so only I can damage and operate them until I sit in the cockpit and share it with everyone. Is there a setting somewhere I can change this with?

Even if you're in a faction, by default everything you make is owned by you with no sharing. It's terrible.

Ah well, hopefully it gets fixed in an update before too long.
How do I drag things into groups? Or do I misunderstand the point of groups? Im getting closer on that outpost Im building (even after losing two hours of work to a crash) and would like to be able to adjust interior and exterior lights separately [editline]17th July 2014[/editline] GODDAMNIT I KEEP HITTING THE WINDOWS KEY AND SE CRASHES WHEN I TRY TO TAB BACK IN three times now I've redone the same section only to hit the tab key at worst possible time. Guess im using autosave :/
Not a fan of the fact that batteries are 80% efficient. I was going to use batteries to make all my smaller ships draw off the main ship's grid but that is a lot of energy loss.
Not a fan of the fact that batteries are 80% efficient. I was going to use batteries to make all my smaller ships draw off the main ship's grid but that is a lot of energy loss.
batteries are inefficient
batteries are inefficient
Space Engineers isn't real life.
Space Engineers isn't real life.
Yet a lot of people would like so some modicum of realism, and honestly is finding energy really that large of a problem right now? most worlds have prolific uranium deposits that provide more than enough fissile materials to run your reactors. Also, Keen also wants to keep some realism. I also just noticed that we got catwalk corners, so rejoice! You can now make neat catwalk structures in your engine and mechanical rooms that actually work
Space Engineers isn't real life.
okay ???
Yet a lot of people would like so some modicum of realism, and honestly is finding energy really that large of a problem right now? most worlds have prolific uranium deposits that provide more than enough fissile materials to run your reactors.
What gameplay reasons are there for batteries to be inefficient? Running off batteries has enough drawbacks (like not being able to charge/discharge at the same time) that the inefficiency is unnecessary. Is it realistic? Yes. Do most people care? Probably not. Going for realism without decent gameplay reasons is a bad idea. Ever played ACF (the combat mod for Garry's Mod) since they've added fuel tanks? It is the opposite of fun. Unless your game is a simulator you should refrain from realism for realism's sake. Outside of solar panels, with [del]80[/del] 20% loss I don't see the point of running batteries when all your potential energy is already stored in uranium.
batteries are where you pay a higher cost for more potential energy later at your choosing its fair
So heres a quick comparison of my wee little outpost after the past few days of making it less fugly before: [t]http://i.imgur.com/tNHvxJq.jpg[/t] after: (new skybox helps I think) [t]http://i.imgur.com/iJPgfhJ.jpg[/t] Still have to completely finish the interior and the aft section is nought but a flat wall... so yeah, its got a bit to go still
