Yeah, definitely a pain. I'm hoping that it's because it's a WIP and that they'll change that soon.
[editline]18th July 2014[/editline]
One change that wasn't mentioned in the video (or at least not in much detail or I completely missed it) is the change to power management. You can now run refineries and assemblers from solar panels. Albeit, slowly. This makes me happy. :)
My project for today is to start building some modular power packs. Merge block on one end, batteries in the middle, connector at the other end. Charge them up at the base and plug them in when needed.
I was going to build a gigafactory next update.
Decided to gut and redo the interior of my ship. New version ended up being 4 blocks wider and about 10 longer.

im loving the new copy paste features
no pics of the interior yet still got empty rooms to fill
does anyone know if that trick where you attach the top of a small rotor to the bottom of a large one still works?
was trying it before but it kept bouncing off.
That ship is impressive in design good on ya mate.
Cluttering the game with features(batteries, for example) that are completely useless detracts from the game.
if it takes moments to charge them, then they'll be used up in moments. And its not a "completely useless feature" if you yourself can come up with an easy way to fix it (speeding up charge time or something). Dat hyperbole.
Honestly if you can't find a reason to build them in their current state, then don't. Obviously some people are more creative engineers than you and that line should exist in this game.
You inferred this from me saying uranium is a more efficient store of energy than batteries in their current build. Uranium + reactors can do everything batteries can do except hold a solar charge, and they do it all more efficiently. I don't understand how I am somehow a less creative engineer for pointing out that what you're doing is inefficient.
Is there something comparable in size to the Green Station but with a conveyor system out there on the workshop?

Collecting, refining, and fissioning uranium isn't exactly 100% efficient either, you know.
Argument aside, I decided the best way to properly pool my resources from all these ships I've captured is to connect them together. With connectors.

Now I'm just kinda wondering if I should build another ship to actually use and build a station to pump all my stuff into, or something.

I did that a while ago, gathered all the cargoships and tied them in one long chain with an engine ship at the very end. This was before connectors though, maybe I should go back and revisit that...

I tried making a big bowl of grinders to throw ships into to harvest them.
It worked up until the grinders didn't destroy them fast enough to not reduce their inertia so I only got through about half of one my old small ships.
Saw this posted over on reddit, it's similar to the rotor glitch, but with the new wheels.

You know what we need? Tesla Superchargers. Or something similar, anyway.
Why not give the batteries different charge modes, so you can align them to your goals? Maybe have a "quick charge" option that charges them to 80% in 2-3 minutes at 60% efficiency, a medium charge that charges them to 90% in 5-6 minutes at 80% efficiency, and a slow-charge that charges them to 100% in 10 minutes with 100% efficiency. I think having a ramp like that could make them a much more usable, much less crippled feature.

i put it on the workshop it needs more refinement but im mostly happy

batteries are not a replacement for uranium
So... Basically, antennae within each others' broadcast radii will rebroadcast the position?
I believe antennae will have more useful features in the future. Being able to set them to faction use/view only, being able to move resources around on other ships/stations (Basically accessing doors/reactors/whatever on separate entities with antennae) and maybe even remote piloting of drones.
Keen pls never fix.
So I accidentally had a ship attached to a station platform, clicked convert to ship, and tried moving said ship. The platform ended up coming with it and didn't stop rotating after I broke it off so I had to put thrusters, gyroscope, and a cockpit on the platform to stop it from moving. Lesson learned.

Yesterday I was trying to make a car and I wondered how the fuck was it meant to be gravity affected. I even made a rail system so that it would be fixed on the z-axis making it not float away.
"Surely more mass would make it more stable, right? There's this block called artificial mass I think it makes stuff weigh more??"
I swear I must be fucking demented, I'm going to give the wiki a good slow read before I attempt anything else.

Hey guys, does anyone know why I am unable to damage cargo ships in my multi player server?
Hey guys, does anyone know why I am unable to damage cargo ships in my multi player server?
Could be something to do with block ownership, I'm having lots of similar issues.
Can you just turn block ownership features off ?
Can you just turn block ownership features off ?
I wish.

You can kind of do the "Faction view only" thing by constructing relays - broadcasts are only relayed to friendly antennae, if I understood it correctly.

Try with more explosives.

As a fellow newbie, would adding a gravity well beneath the car and then adding artificial mass work for your problem? Or am I forgetting something? Cause I realize with your attempt, you added artificial mass even though there wasn't a force to act on them (so it still floated, right?).
If any facepunchers want to join a brand new player on an Easy Start dedicated server, feel free to add me on steam 'shanstr321'. I'll invite you to the group needed to see it on the list and give you the details. I have only a small idea of what I'm doing, not the most knowledgeable yet. You're free to do whatever you want as long as you respect each other and don't fuck with shit that already exists. Anything in the default station's storage system is universally yours. So unless given permission don't take or use shit from other storages.
I'm not really sure if FP has it's own server or not but if we do I want in. :P

Can't find you on steam, add me! Icon's under my avatar.
Remember when I told I made a drill?
[t]http://cloud-4.steampowered.com/ugc/35218679167997136/7905B8AE398C08203C83E42AE53A56EA902F8FBD/[/t]
I just spent more than an hour driving it through an entire asteroid.
(It constantly veered to the right, meaning the right side of the drill was p much destroyed - but only thrusters and armor)
[editline]20th July 2014[/editline]
I think that hole is like... sixteen-ish large blocks wide.
[editline]20th July 2014[/editline]
Also it looks like I only posted the smaller, yellow drill. This one had at least twice as many drills - and eight refineries and at least eight assemblers, so it could essentially do everything on its own.
[editline]20th July 2014[/editline]
The fuel time was horrifyingly low, though.
Okay, turns out I only had 10 x 10 drills, so it's only 25 metres wide.
[t]http://i.imgur.com/K6cMcIU.jpg[/t]
Also, I managed to figure out the damage distance for large thrusters and put the reverse thrusters inside the hull, in the rear, below the industrial equipment.
I made the connector clusterfuck just one ship with merges, now.

The weirdest thing is that as long as I'm doing nothing particularly power-hungry (moving, assembling...), this thing can run off the solar panels.
