All drills already do this? They hoover in debris when on.
Just set up a pit with a gravity generator on it. Tow it behind you as you dig. Really simple.
I already use a giant mining bucket, but that's an entire ship. I'm talking about something much more compact. I'd like to have something I can just set up inside of a honeycombed asteroid instead of having to remove massive amounts of rock just so that I have a hole that rubble will go into, and that still isn't accounting for pockets and such where rubble gets caught.
All drills already do this? They hoover in debris when on.
They don't catch everything though.
Hey look! Another Space Engineers video! Actually, my friend and I decided to do a little test video to see how it goes. I can say as much, I'm not that knowledgeable of the game, yet.
Whatever happened to the FP server? I wanted to play online. Also, I just realised that this Military Minelayer probably weighs as much as that huge clusterfuck of a ship I built earlier. [editline]23rd July 2014[/editline] Nah, it's only a third of the total mass

Eh, I'd rather not have gravity like that. Nothing in the game save for a few ships are large enough to deserve even a small amount of gravity. It would ends up just hogging even more processing power just to extremely gently pull space junk towards a ship or asteroid in a way that's so extremely small that it would almost never get noticed.

Nobody's forcing you to use it on large worlds, it's purely for fun, like when you want to blow up something and make its debris fall on the ground, etc. Also I never noticed any performance drop when I tried to put mass blocks on everything Edit: also what? If astronaut is affected by gravity generators, why blocks can't be
Because if you made everything with mass have a gravity field, it wouldnt do anything anyway, its just time wasted coding and implementing it. In order to get the gravity of just one gravgen, you would need to have a ship or asteroid with roughly as much mass as the entire earth. 5.97219 × 10^24 kilograms. Thats 6,583,210,000,000,000,000,000 tons. Thats really really fucking big and Im guessing you dont have an asteroid or ship thats close to even 10% of that. Otherwise, the only thing an asteroid would ever collect in its gravity field would be a few flecks of dust after a month or two.
Update tomorrow I cant wait for pistons I am hoping they arnt like Minecrafts 1 block of travel pistons.
Hopefully offset slightly like rotors so we can make sliding doors without collisions ahoy

He's saying he wants ship blocks to be affected by grav gens, not just artificial masses and loose rocks. He's not asking for ships and 'roids to have their own gravity fields.

But that all ship blocks behave like artificial mass blocks, in that they get pulled around by gravity generators. Instead of artificial mass blocks, anti-gravity blocks would be implemented, which would counter the gravity of generators.
Nothing should be removed from the game, I just want a setting toggle that makes all blocks (except stations) affected by grav gens
I will be looking for a similar feature as the frankenrotors immediately, small blocks are just so useful for doors.
frankenpiston doors would be nice, yeah. If they are two-piece objects like rotors are it should definitely be possible.
This was posted to the official forum a while ago. There may have been discussion of it here, but I don't recall. I think it should be official canon. I'd quote it here, but it's lengthy. Though certainly worth a read. http://forums.keenswh.com/post/space-engineers-the-truth-behind-the-lie-6920182

What are blast door blocks? Are they essentially heavy armor blocks made slightly smaller so they'll fit within the grid of normal armor?
Pistons! I'll have to set one up with a landing gear on it to push my ship off the connector, so I can stop breaking stuff. Like a big space spatula.
that rotor setting could have been its own update! ive been waiting for this since they were first released.
this update is god tier. i'd really be interested to hear the details of their internal development methodology to hear how they can pump this awesome shit out so fast and not royally fuck up game design somehow.
What are blast door blocks? Are they essentially heavy armor blocks made slightly smaller so they'll fit within the grid of normal armor?
Also some beveled edges.
If they plan on pushing the idea of making your own doors and mechanics out of the rotors and pistons, we absolutely require action groups for any of it to be practical.
Hope this new rotor functionality doesn't break the best bug ever..
Blast doors and pistons, the both of them with landing gears = retractable landing gears Fuck yes! I'm gonna try making a ship with a system of retractable gears
Hope this new rotor functionality doesn't break the best bug ever..
They commented on it previously and said while initially they considered it a bug, they now consider it a feature and will streamline it in the future, so I doubt this will break it.
