I keep getting a problem where pistons just stop doing anyting at all, they just extend or retract then refuse to do anything after that as if they have siezed.
i tested out fighter based missiles. the theory and the practice is sound. There will probably be a way to improve it's functionality, but as of right now it works. It launches at targets when you release the landing gear and detonates, causing much higher destruction than standard rockets. The only way for it to immediately launch when you press P is to have it's thruster always on, which drags the craft upwards slightly, but it can be easily compensated for.
These could be a functionally applicable addition to a normal fighter/bomber arsenal. I'll post pics of a worked out design tomorrow.

I think this might have already been said, but I really hope that before the developers finish the game they add proper ways to handle complex input/output (stuff like buttons/levers that do a bunch of pre-defined actions when you activate them). Without it, ultimately all of this complex machinery is totally wasted.

Well seeing as they want to add programming, I'm pretty sure we'll see buttons and keypads at some point.
I'd love to see some furniture in an update soon, if only for my dreams of creating a flying couch.
Pistons look really useful. I haven't played the game in a while but i'll try it again and see what i can do with them.

What I want to see is something like Robocraft's Electroplate armor crossed with KSP's procedural wing mod and other prefabs.
I hope eventually there are some static animations for things like reactors. Everything's so still on board the ships.

Well at least with power going through rotors now you could do some fun stuff that way.

It kinda looks like some kinda revolving magazine - maybe they're attached via connectors which would very well allow them to contain small gravity drives without affecting a ship this large. Rotating it slowly would lock it to firing position when the missile hits its launch platform.

The piston head got disconnected from the piston body. Happens way too frequently.

Its not mine I just thought it was neat from what I gather its landing gear based.
I am however currently trying to make a clip fed repeating Torpedo launcher, pistons work better than wheels,and blast door edges and corners work better than landing gear.

Ok I thought the head remained attached to the part being moved and the cylinders retracted without it ,I guess it all just freezes in place when it does that... what a PITA when it does this with an elevator.
Only done a little fiddling around with missiles and such, but currently I prefer merge blocks as I can remotely turn on the thrusters before launching the thing. On the other hand, that's extra, useless mass slowing down the missile that wouldn't be needed with landing gear.

So it probably spins the missiles into heavy armor, and the braking force on the landing gear releases it.

I think the spinning ring is simply Fluff,to me it looks like the missiles are fixed in the bays.
On another note whats everyones opinions on fluff the usless shit thats simply for aesthetics or vanity,I like personally.
I've been trying to get a small ship nuke built. With the container in the front I can't get it up to speed, even with my ship going max speed and the missile thruster at max lock it just bounces off the target. If I put a warhead in front of the missile then it just explodes from the warhead, not dropping the explosives.. hm.
It may be too light it needs some mass to drive it into the target and crack the container.

I pretty well have my clip fed torpedo system figured out just getting the feed system to work right is gonna be a pain if action groups were a thing the revolver would be viable too but at the moment I am just as likely to fire the torpedo aligned with the tube as I am the one the complete opposite

So I finished my concept for a magazine fed torpedo launcher I have yet to load it with live rounds,the Piston in the magazine has to be manually operated as the dumy rounds just clipped into each other.

So I made this I can hold as much as the last one its has fewer moving parts there is a stack of three pistons under the floor that moves it left to right and I could even include merge blocks for quick change of clips.

After much frustration exploding and far to many broken pistons I have come up with an acceptable High capacity internal torpedo system,it can hold 3 torpedoes in a clip,with 30 in the magazine I will have to make a purpose built reloading tender for this ,I doubt It can be reloaded on the move but that is true for all torpedo designs I guess.
Also stacked pistons suck avoid them at all costs.
