Man these Homeworld 2 skyboxes
If you can color thruster flames, how do you do it?
help
Maybe he meant it's something that mods can effect?

I went down memory lane a few times when playing with that today, made me want to dust of my copy and play through it once more.
BUT, I'm gonna restrain myself and wait for the remastered/HD edition to come out before doing so, that way I can get the max nostalgaculation.

And guys, for the last time: thruster color can ONLY be changed by modding the game! There is NO in-game option to do so (although it would be really cool if there was).
Actually you don't need to mod anything, unless you consider modding to be changing the values of some shit.
Go into the CubeBlock.sbc and find this under each of the thrusters.

XYZW is RGBA, and for people aren't knowledgeable on this, that's Red, Green, Blue and Alpha.

The values aren't out of 255 either, 1.0 is basically 255
So... I saw the update today, and immediately thought "Why am I in space again?"
So I decided to stop being in space.

dear SE devs
please drop everything and implement a procedural planet rendering system while also expanding the size of the game world to the entire solar system (but not actually including any of the real solar system except for the trans mars-jupiter belt)
ty.
Dat aeroshuttle.
The aeroshuttle is for the Intrepid class (voyager) and is smaller. The one under the nova class is a waverider.

I think the waverider is actually the smaller one, just looking at the relative size of the ships and the shuttles compared to the saucer sections.

The devs do as you wish.
Once implemented, you eagerly boot up the game. However, you are disappointed by the fact that there are no real goals once you reach a planet, which takes forever considering there is a 104.1m/s speed limit.
Then, seconds later, you are knocked unconscious by your computer exploding as the amount of bugs in the software are so great it has overloaded the CPU to the point of critical power overdraw. This is in combination with the fact that you are now 73 years old, due to the length of planetary travel.

That would require proper orbital mechanics, which most of the SE playerbase is too stupid to understand.
That would require proper orbital mechanics, which most of the SE playerbase is too stupid to understand.
Eh, the KSP playerbase is also full of kids and they sort of got it
eventually
That one guy that was pissed at the game and thought it was buggy because his parachute didn't work on the moon was pretty funny, tho
I kinda wish you could go faster than 104.1 M/s
I think it requires far larger stable maps before the speed limit can be upped considerably.
I think it requires far larger stable maps before the speed limit can be upped considerably.
Plus the tendency for things to phase through others partially at full-speed collisions.
You know what else would be cool but really annoying?
Space Ship degradation :v:

Also holy shit I've been out of the loop last couple of days. That last update looks like gold.

Gau-8 is so loud it breaks laws of physics.

Well, KSP was a game like it is from the beginning. It attracted people who wanted to learn that thing. SE attracted people who wanted to fly block ships like airplanes. Not many would want to learn a whole different game, nor the developers would do that. They even implied that basic fuel resource for engines instead of magic propellant-less electricity would be too complicated for people.

Electromagnetic bullets!
ITT: "what is scope?" :)
ITT: "what is scope?" :)
Exactly. But, larger worlds would still be nice. But it seems, they need to re-write the whole map format system, as the coordinates get unstable past 50km.
Exactly. But, larger worlds would still be nice. But it seems, they need to re-write the whole map format system, as the coordinates get unstable past 50km.
Well they already rewrote a bunch of stuff in the past, including some important engine stuff (remember the update that made the game autosave in the background and made physics calculations and framerate independent from each other?), and bigger words are kinda important for multiplayer, can't really hide and build in peace now with the asteroids so close to each other.
Maximum speed should be ATLEAST 1000 km/h. 100m/s is ridiculously slow compared to just about anything spacey
I can't say I'm a fan of how much thrust you can get from thrusters, you don't even need that many to be able to get to 104m/s
to be able to get to 104m/s
You are able to get to any velocity by using smallest thrust imaginable. Maybe you meant the time?
That would require proper orbital mechanics, which most of the SE playerbase is too stupid to understand.
SE ships have effectively infinite delta-V, so you could throw most of the limitations of KSP and real ships out of the window, and just burn at full thrust everywhere.
inertial dampeners would keep you still in orbit
That is what I keep thinking;
In Star Trek there are atleast 5 people on the bridge at consoles ready to carry out the captain's commands. Ontop of that there are crew all over the ship for maintenance, and systems control and security. It would be absolutely amazing if by the time this game is completed, you can have a server with 64 people, either 32 in 2 ships or 16 in 4 ships.
I wish there were phasers or some sort of more futuristic weapon in the game. Something tells me we wouldn't use miniguns in space.
Also I cannot wait until they implement some sort of functions program. The hotkeys in the latest update are nice, but imagine hotkeys designed to extend, rotate and lock weapons all in one go.
Another thing is a sector system. In order to keep maps small, it would be cool if you could link maps together using some sort of warp feature. So that when you warp you enter the next map (where there is an outpost or something).
Lastly, I really would like some sort of remote control/RT camera/remote viewing. It would be nice to be able to send out a drone to mine without endangering a crew member.
Some sort of com system would be cool as well. Radio with faction enabled, and people can hear you near by, but in order to talk ship to ship you need to request a com link etc.
Basically;
See Star Trek, do that.
[editline]2nd August 2014[/editline]
Also, just how the pistons and rotors are made of 2 parts, more systems should be like that. So that if something goes wrong, you kinda have to diagnose it, like "Oh shit, the sealer cap is blown on my reactor! I need to fix it in 10 seconds or it will blow up, etc.
[editline]2nd August 2014[/editline]
Oh, and a setting on the gravity generator to make it a centre of gravity, so that all things in the field get accelerated towards it.
You should remember that Space Engineers is not a Startrek Movie, players arent actors. It's not real life either, people dont need to work for their living in Space Engineers, there isnt much to discover, its just a bunch of asteroids and people grinding paint with their toy ships whenever they want to mine the same astroid.
People playing Space Engineers wants to have fun, and nobody thinks its fun just doing what another person tells them to.
I could imagine, though, that once the game is much more polished and moddable, someone out there will probably make a mod or gamemode for SE that allows for SS13 styled gameplay.
Games are different, not everybody wants to be the captain in SS13 because it is FUN to be a security officer or a chef, or even the lowly assistant. In Space Engineers where people spend time and effort building their own creations and not just playing with a pre-existing spaceship/station, they will most likely also want to pilot their own ship instead of just sitting idle in another dude's ship.
I could imagine, though, as I said, that once the game is much more developed, people building giant ships ala the Nostromo from Alien or some of those big-ass ships from Battlestar Galactica with two close friends piloting them together, one guy manning turrets and doing on ship maintenance while a guy pilots the ship. Like 2 man ships at most, maybe 3 man but that sounds like pushing it too far.
That is my opinion at least.
You are able to get to any velocity by using smallest thrust imaginable. Maybe you meant the time?
No, if you're using one thruster they should have it capped at a certain speed depending on the weight of the ship you're using, one thruster on a big ship should not eventually get it to 104m/s
