this is actually great news because minecraft absolutely dominated the xbox marketplace and I'm pretty sure it still does
Microsoft will probably advertise the hell out of this and make it a huge success on both platforms since you know they want another huge cash-in like minecraft. What better way to have a cash-in than a cash-in that you can say is yours? All of the revenue is going straight back in to their own pocket so they'd be stupid to not make a deal like this
I can only imagine good things coming out of this so long as microsoft don't pull an EA and push releases and shit when the game clearly isn't ready for it
a small studio that can't even get its multiplayer working smoothly is now spending an incredible amount of extra effort by working on two separate systems at once while still developing the game out of beta.
oh boy what could possibly go wrong? :v:

it's two different teams. one team is just porting over the PC content
Info comin right up
As said by one of the developers in the comments.
Chill pills distributors to the right.
alright well if it's another studio then hopefully there wont be any problems.

maybe they'll fix their multiplayer for them :v:

It's basically what they're doing with minecraft.
As soon as I heard my first reaction was "fucking shitebags, it's ruined"
But now I know they've got a different team doing the port, I'm happy with it. The money microsoft will bring them will really help them out.
It was like Facebook and Oculus: first reaction is "Oh great, it's ruined" but when you sit back and watch things unfold you see that Oculus is still Oculus and Facebook is just helping them out with tonnes more money. The only thing they'e done is say they wan't it to be sold for near material cost. Which sucks for Oculus but is great for us.
I just hope this partnership does actually work out as good for us as Facebook is to Oculus. If they fuck this up there will be hell to pay.
pc gamers are entitled fucks and sometimes embarrassing to be part of
I simply misunderstood the term 'exclusive', I didn't realise PC was exempt from that. In this case, it's most certainly a good thing! I was just worried about was the PC version being neglected in favour of the xbone version, and it seems that is unlikely to happen.

As soon as I heard the news I started looking up some more info, forming a personal opinion on the subject using the information I gathered, and posting it here.
Because if there is one thing I learned from the whole Oculus/Facebook thing is that Facepunch is full of ignorants who would rather kneejerk than educate themselves.
As shown here:
Wow, fuck them.
It has nothing to do with being "entitled fucks"
The way it was worded, I initially though they were gonna abandon the PC version for a year to suddenly work on an Xbox One port.

Yes because you're so wrapped up in your entitlement you forgot to take a breath and think about this logically.

You would have to be retarded to think they would abandon PC.

it'd be cool for you to spell out how entitlement and concern for the game's development progress go hand-in-hand. even for those who didn't think it would halt PC development, without knowing a second team was being introduced (you have to admit that is not what somebody's first guess would be) there would certainly be cause for concern regarding the game's overall development progress if KSH were to work on a port at the same time.
(you have to admit that is not what somebody's first guess would be)
Of course not. Microsoft is going to make a 12 month deal with an indie studio not capable of porting the game and working on it at the same time.
Oh wait, no, that would be fucking retarded.
haha wow, hilarious response in this thread
good on keen for expanding to xbawks imo
also, they're going to need to optimise it, and I'm sure that will carry over to the pc version

calm down with the inflammatory statements. nobody's suggesting that KSH wouldn't be capable of porting it, the entire point is that they would make the time to port it by slowing progressing of the game in favor of making it multi-platform. I can see microsoft doing something like that in completely usual circumstances.

I don't see KSH agreeing to a deal that slows down the development of SE on PC, one of the top sellers on Steam.
sure it may not be very likely, but it's not out of the question. I could see them doing something like that and justifying it with the fact that it's a time investment that would translate to money for funding later development

Because its entitled to think a game company shouldn't be allowed to develop the game for more than one platform that isn't their ~chosen masterrace platform~

Suddenly ditching PC for Xbone at this point would fatally damage their reputation, deprive them of a significant source of funding (considering it's not guaranteed SE would do well on Xbone), and might violate whatever rules Steam's early access has.

okay, granted. it was obvious that some thought it would only continue development on the xbox one leaving the PC distribution to catch up later. however, setting aside the idea of not wanting it on other platforms, that would be kind of a letdown for the one that has taken it this far. I think it was primarily concerning to imagine that it might slow the game's progress overall, which could reasonably be seen as jumping the gun to get it on other platforms instead of waiting for the game to reach a more finished state.

Yes, it would be silly to think they would ditch the PC platform to work on another platform's distribution at the present point in the game's development. It wouldn't, however, be as ridiculous to imagine that they may continue development, but with a divided focus be unable to keep the game's present rate of progression. That is just a simple concern for the game's future, not an explicit disgust toward the idea of the game moving to other platforms.

yes it's entitled to think that a company shouldn't abandon development on a game they haven't even finished on its original platform. that's some grade A entitlement there buddy.
no.

I was just trying to refute the idea that this response was 100% derived from being members of the glorious pc master-race which believes no other dirty peasant machines should have access to a glorious PC platform starter

You have to be stupid and/or entitled to believe that was happening though.

There hasn't be a whisper of complaint against those who wanted Keen to also focus the dev team on making a linux version.
that's because linux is the glorious pc master race's big brother with cooler toys and a nice car that he lets them ride in every once and a while
[editline].[/editline]
that wasn't a direct analogy, I'm just bad at being funny
I'm just saying the response - esp on the forums and youtube is pretty much just platform entitlement based hysteria.

The wording of the original announcement was dubious at best. I was pretty shocked too, I don't think that's entitlement.
The wording of the original announcement was dubious at best.
Luckily humans possess pretty good logic abilities and no one I knew thought it was dubious.
I guess some people got the wrong idea, but some people get the wrong idea about everything.
It's no wonder people accuse you of being NoDachi's alt.
