Hmm if they pull it off right it could work best for both parties. Keen's been paying very close attention to their fans and if they try to fuck us over, they're done.
It could work for both because they need to do some serious optimizations for the xbox. No longer can the game take up as much ram as it damn well pleases, and hopefully that will carry to the pc. This also means they'll streamline programming for ships (if they do ever add it) which, again will hopefully carry over. Among other things such as making the block placement tool less retarded.
Streamlining ship programming is a negative. If it's streamlined to the degree consoles will require, and ANY of that carrys over, it will be a damn shame.

Welcome to the party, have some clocks. :v:

I don't think so. Have you ever seen Scratch, a Linux-based programming tool currently being developed by the Raspberry Pi Foundation and MIT?
It's basically the old Lego Mindstorms/NXT coding interface, but a whole lot more powerful. It's actually pretty impressive. I think something like that could definitely work on consoles and PC, and would provide the depth but simplicity that this game requires.
Good lord this thread went to shit.
I finally got back into SE and I am loving the mod support.
I was thinking today of maybe making some blocks so you can build an actual torpedo have different tubular blocks, for warheads ,heavy armor blocks, cargo containers all the different components that regularly go into a typical torpedo.
Not sure where to start if I want to attempt such a thing. So if anyone could point me in a direction

I've seen this shit in action and something like it is exactly what i had in mind.

also, capital ship battles are amazing. Mine is the blue one, the other one is a guy online.

People seem to be forgetting that KSH have wanted to port to console from the beginning. It's slaYs been on their to-do list. It's just come earlier than expected and earlier than most would really like.
I'm fine with it if it doesn't affect the PC development time and it doesn't cripple the (upcoming) features of the PC version because console needs it to have it too.
I am pretty sure KSH is capable of not buggering up the development of their game, besides a different team in handling the port so its not like its taking manpower away from SE development.

Yeah. If they keep it the way they do minecraft, in which the main team will update normally, and the team dedicated to the Xbone will handle all the tricky stuff to get it to work, it should be fine.

I don't like that idea... The Xbox version of Minecraft is a whole lot more optimized than the PC version.
I'd like Keen to make use of those optimizations, rather than just let 4J Studios sit on them like Mojang has.
Wasn't that because they rewrote the whole game and it doesn't run on java?
I think it is a bit different to the situation of SE correct me if I'm wrong.
from my understanding of it, now that the Xbox is pretty much a PC, won't it just be a matter of compiling for that platform and making sure there is controller support?
I don't know how game development works but it sure sounds like the case with the new consoles

They're x64 processors (AMD Jaguar APUs to be precise) but it's nowhere near as simple as clicking 'Compile' and waiting for a new version. Completely different API and whatnot.

Minecraft Xbox is written in C#. The syntax is pretty similar but the API is definitely not. However having the game in C# in its current state would cripple MC for most people: you wouldn't be able to mod it the way we do now because the mods actually change MC's base files, which would be largely impossible if compiled in C#. MC needs proper modding support before this is an option. Also, C# is not platform independent like Java is, meaning Windows users would be the only ones to have easy access to the game.
And going back to SE on that note: rewriting the game for Xbone will do absolutely nothing for PC users. The best we can hope for is that this doesn't affect PC development. The worst case is it does.

No thanks. I had that in high school and it sucked.
WHAT A FUCKING SURPRISE I MADE NEW FIGHTERS
i downloaded a bunch of ES industries mods so i wanted to make things with them

FG-193 "Xerxes" (pictured is the SE variant, with 2 extra guns, improved gyroscopic package, and superior electronics kit)
Cost-effective, easy to maintain, light, and incredibly fast, it's a favorite of pirates and the more frugal mercenaries**. Stock, it comes with a decent armament of 4 guns and 2 missile launchers, but suffers from a lack of maneuverability, armor, and poor weapon hardpoints. For extra dorrah you can buy the SE variant with 2 extra gyroscopes and 2 extra guns.

compared to a Mk. 7 RF-86, the RF-86 is superior in almost every way EXCEPT for acceleration, attributed to a 60,000 kg difference between the two. The RF-86 has a far superior ft/lb acceleration, however.

now onto the TF-64 "Nightrise"
20,000 kg heavier than the FG-193, the Nightrise is not as quick to hop to its feet, but it's armor and maneuverability is far superior, as is it's stock weapon package.
[t]http://cloud-4.steampowered.com/ugc/43102251025815470/C4E86808F18DD90C8D537A9C2EB214FAB766683E/[/t]

Despite having a similar overall length, width, and height of the Xerxes, the Nightrise is packed with armor, contributing to a higher overall weight, but a much greater survivability. The awkward design of the engine placement requires that docking be accomplished against a wall, however. Typically favored by Mercenaries** skilled enough to fulfill the Nightrise's odd requirements to pilot, it's still adequately quick, and slugs a hard punch.
Against an RF-86, which is generally considered to be top of the line(and whose cost reflects that), the Nightrise does not accelerate as fast, isn't as nimble, carries less ordnance, and is not as well armored. A competent fighter, though, it is, and is more than a match for most fighters on the battlefield*. Nobody that uses one will say that it is not cost-effective.
*not actually tested because i have no friends to test it with me :c

also look at the rear profile of the RF-86 Mk.7, it's GORGEOUS

lookit dat ass
Are there any mods that change the textures for the blocks? And I mean the main building ones, I don't care about anything else.

say what? postimage is fine....
I wish there was an option for thruster balancing, like if I put 2 thrusters on the right side of a ship and one on the left side, it'll turn to the left bit by bit when I'm going forward.
My large ships almost always end up being small general purpose ships. I have a hard time imagining a ship built by me that's not mostly rectangular.
The front cockpit is mostly just for high visibility, there's a second one inside the ship which is what I mainly use.
By general purpose I mean they have a refinery and an assembler or two, as well as a docking port in the form of a connector and a bit of storage. As well as only being lightly armed.

I hate not being able to put the top back on an otherwise fine piston.
Why hasn't anyone made a 2X1 slope block that looks like the original ones? Ramps just look weird.
Why hasn't anyone made a 2X1 slope block that looks like the original ones? Ramps just look weird.
More importantly, i want the corners but with 4 points instead of 3. i hate trying to make smooth surfaces with little squares jutting out.
That and inverted corners! Most games of this type have those blocks by default. KSH really overlooked some basic stuff.
I also think there ought to be armor curves. the same as the slopes. 1x1 1x2 1x3 1x4, 2x2, etc. That way we can atleast make some sleek parts. Sure, we wont be able to make a perfect sphere ship, but I don't really want to anyways. If that is such a huge problem im sure they could go up to 10x10 quarter circle
the curve blocks we had before looked dreadful
really doesn't look as good in reality as it does in your head
I fail to see the point in 1x2 and above blocks when you can just put 2 1x1 blocks next to each other and create a 1x2 and so on, corner ramps and shit like that, curved blocks aswell.
