Anyone have stats on how effective heavy armor is against gatling turrets? Using an armored decoy to absorb enemy fire until they run out, need to know how thick I need it to be.
imo as thick as logistically possible.
I wasn't saying it would, I was just thinking of an unlikely but positive case for Early Access. The big thing about early access is that people misunderstand it and that leads to cases where, like yourself, Early Access becomes hated due to a misconception of the idea.
Oh no I get the idea, it's just that the majority of developers putting there games onto Steam in Early Access form don't, most of the games are garbage and stay that way for a long time.
so apparently there is a spherical gravity generator in the files. Huh.
you get a box for "lol autism" [editline]18th August 2014[/editline] other than that though I agree
Because you have to be oh so PC on the internet, right? Also I have reached a ship builders block.. I cant make anything at all, guess I ran out of ideas. Anyone got some great inspiration for building realistic looking space ships?
Pardon me I have to suspend my disbelief I actually get most of my inspiration from THIS dude on DeviantArt
How about that. I too get most of my... inspiration... from that dude on DeviantArt.
The game is fine with some more optimization. My only real problem is that some asteroids absolutely tank my FPS regardless of me having a good pc - but that'll get fixed eventually. Its meant to be played mostly either has a co-op survival game or a creative show room. Two functions it can do well. Its not meant to be some pseudo-MMO with huge fleet fights or 20m kg ships duking it out and living stations spanning the solar system. As Wickerman said peoples perceptions of this game is the real problem. It doesn't matter how much this game and handle or the scale. There will always be people playing it at its limits and complaining that they're not getting the experience they want. We're either going to be hearing "waaa my 32m kg HMS Aspergers lags" or "waaa ma 107m kg USS Autist lags"
My ships rang between 4-350m kg ,hell FPs space hulk was flyable and I had two on the same map,I have tortured this game and it still delivers.

The thing with Early Access haters is that they act like they are forced to buy every single title that comes out from Steam Greenlight. Well, guess what, you don't. Use your judgment. Don't buy shit games, and you won't have to play shit games. Woah.
How am I supposed to use pistons? They wobble too much and they don't even work well as a grappling hook
fuck i reloaded a save from before the beacon and antenna changes and they set the default broadcast range to something really low there are like 10 really cool structures i made but they're around 10-20 km apart from each other so they're all literally lost in space now balls
SEtools can solve all
Got this monstrosity to work, from just an idea i had, now to build a ship around it! [thumb]http://cloud-4.steampowered.com/ugc/27339734020030419/55F3C7CDD30D28904AD04DA98832931C4655ECF3/[/thumb]
Yeah, generalizing people who don't like Early Access in general are haters, terrific.
The last line wasn't really directed at you, since I see you bring up another point. It was more towards people that hate early access because they bought a game and it wasn't finished. It's not like they are being lied to or anything. And if a developer puts his game on early access and it doesn't get finished, it wouldn't get finished even if he didn't put it up there. It's developer's, not steam's fault. The reason we don't hear about unfinished indie games pre early access, is because we had no way of knowing they were being made.
It isn't either of those, it's incapable.
No it isn't. You don't even understand what you're talking about because none of its actual problems have anything to do with the internals of the physics engine. The cause of 99% of complaints is that clients only have physics authority of grids they pilot directly - this is a networking problem and has nothing to do with physics. Here are some actual problems with the game's physics: Collision volumes aren't truncated as effectively as they could be. Hit ctrl + shift + f12 and see how many convex shapes there are compared to how many there could be. This leads to there being more collision detections than there should be but only really hurts performance with massive ships. The constraint resolver is only as good as any other physics engine's constraint resolver. Another game with chains of objects would just fudge the mass to make it more stable, but you can't do that here because object mass is integral to the game. Unless you want pistons to get REALLY heavy, to get more stability you have to increase the number of physics iterations per frame. 2 iterations would halve the error. Most ships only have maybe 3 or 4 moving parts at most (with pistons being 3 constraints each?), this isn't Garry's Mod where there are n^2 constraints on any given contraption so the performance shouldn't tank so hard. Items and missiles don't use shape colliders / ray tracing at high velocities and tunnel through objects - this is the closest you come to actually having to alter the physics engine but you can still tack on your own collision detection at a higher level.
My ships rang between 4-350m kg ,hell FPs space hulk was flyable and I had two on the same map,I have tortured this game and it still delivers.
The first time I test flew the space hulk, it lumbered away in a cloud of dust, debris, and broken ship parts, it was so cinematic it seemed like it was a movie.
If that's a ramp, couldn't you have just made it with a rotor?
I Could have, but I had that idea for the design, so I built it. Why do it the simple way. Googling the idea for this ramp just not to explain where I got the inspiration form, has now inspired me to make one even more awesome.
what is this spacehulk?

[editline]18th August 2014[/editline]
what is this spacehulk?
We all pooled our built ships together and mashed them into a proper 40k space hulk. This also showcases FPs nuclear capabilities.
Earliest Screenshot I have of my Capital: [t]http://cloud-4.steampowered.com/ugc/901013884105856156/8E6276ADEBEFF86B1E97539A8BC4DBCA5090D639/[/t] Latest Screenshot of my Capital: [t]http://cloud-4.steampowered.com/ugc/565519890270603129/BD2222DCEC0A6D7763B7E8EC18CDBEF1DE3C7D64/[/t] I had the sides greeble'd up nicely then I lost it all in a crash. Seriously, had everything done up nicely and forgot to save when I alt-tabbed. Got so mad I've been putting off redoing it ever since. I've started the interior proper now, have sloped off and rounded most of the trouble surfaces, began a bridge, started internal systems, added blast doors, and changed the propulsion in addition to adding another layer of armor. Thing is stupidly slow but should be nigh indestructible.

I need ships roughly the size of the starter ships, give or take 50%. Any donors?
That makes me want to pull the MK II out of cold storage,it was a beast 15 layers of bow armor 3 layers of side top and bottome and 5 layers of rear bulkhead,a couple titan engines should help its speed issues.
I went looking through my old saves and I came across probably my coolest looking bridge. shame I never finished this thing, could be a sweet carrier.

Here, these three: [t]http://cloud-4.steampowered.com/ugc/37471572035855079/166DBA6592411A8C36975D7E55FEE796F5E26E78/[/t] [t]http://cloud-4.steampowered.com/ugc/576761144177242825/EA4282523481425E5E384A7DD0EB2940CD8EF7E7/[/t] [t]http://cloud-4.steampowered.com/ugc/669083575765356646/B9C34A1FEEC9FABAE1899135AA36F2BB1E5F342E/[/t] First one is unfinished (though has more progress than you see in that picture), second one is nominally finished but unrefined, and the third one is old and may need optimizations.
[thumb]http://i.imgur.com/bTqXM2t.png[/thumb] I have this thing from like a half a year ago or if you want something smaller [thumb]http://i.imgur.com/oHqV0ge.jpg[/thumb]
