Probably in a mod.
[editline]26th August 2014[/editline]
remember this, if something isn't basegame and since they will probably make a modding API someone will probably mod it in.
What's a modding API?
What's a modding API?
Essentially an exposure of the game engine's functionality in some form that people can use to create extensions of the game.
What's a modding API?
The short and sweet is that a modding API enables us to create plug-ins, that add new - big - features beyond just changing models.

I have my fingers crossed for someone adding radiation.

No, but the possibilities for what can you do with what's already available are near limitless.
You could put spherical gravity generators with a negative gravity field so it deflects debris
get it anyway. this follows are more semi-realistic way to play, no shields, just lots of armor.
Fuck. I love shields...

...fuck it, I'm going to get this game and make myself a space hulk.
I have my fingers crossed for someone adding radiation.
Radiation would be an interesting aspect to handle, especially with things like uranium deposits. It would really force you to upgrade from hand drills and improve your ship if you needed to protect yourself while out in space doing repairs/building/mining.

That and having a damaged reactor slowly kill you and turn whats left of the ship into a radioactive deathtrap.
I tried to give a battleship plasma cannons, they are so unbalanced im actually going to uninstall the mod,it gives a small fighter the same firepower as th deathstar.

It'd be interesting to see if they made it so that missles (that come out of the launchers) were effected by gravity.
Am I the only one that have got this?

I'd like to see more than just 'light' and 'heavy' armor blocks. I'd like a variety based upon what metals you are able to find and process. Maybe a playing system?

there is a mod that adds heavier than heavy armor if you want that
[editline]27th August 2014[/editline]
I'm going to see how hard it is for me to make a skybox for Space Engineers, Could be fun!
there's also a mod that adds concrete blocks

Maybe if all armor blocks were one block, but the difference lies in how much you weld them?
I you continue to weld something you'll just melt it.
Seen as this game aims to be realistic, the most realistic thing to me would be a variety of armor made from different materials. Maybe the options to uograde armor with reactive plates or extra per-block Greeble designed to deflect fire.
A system like this would warrant a variety of different rounds though.
An ideal system would be something akin to Gmod's ACF addon but I'm weary as to how well the engine could cope with all this on the scale of capital ship battles with thousands of rounds in the "air" at a time.
We can dream.
[editline]27th August 2014[/editline]
Although I do remember LSG having a video that showed that missiles do deflect a very small amount when hitting slopes. However it wasn't enough I really make a difference.
Talking about the mod api, I hope someone gets a life support system working, so things like airlocks and such, exist and work. Also forcefields.
Forcefields, nah.
However I remember a Facepuncher figured out a way of doing life support.
Who was that? Are they still around?
beyond basic air support, life support isn't needed. i dont want to make sure my character is fed/slept or when he needs to piss/shit because that isn't fun.

I'm opposed to overcomplicating the armor block system, but it would be seriously nice if there was a basic building block armor that didn't feel weird to use in areas larger than 5x5. Like, a block that just feels greeble-y by default, that doesn't make you feel dirty if you want a "smooth" design. The armor types you mentioned might be a good start.

That video was the final nail in their coffin for me. Even if it bounced a split second before it exploded it made no difference. Its an explosive weapon, not an impact weapon. Angle makes no difference. Any reduction in damage that video showed was because he used two layers of sloped block instead of one layer of normal block.
It'd be interesting to see if they made it so that missles (that come out of the launchers) were effected by gravity.
Yeah, even if it is just for a moment and the missiles have a delay while they correct for gravity. Then again, these are dumb missiles
Gravity generators are unrealistic enough, the game would be ruined if we had any way of magically deflecting fire.
missiles need to be affected by gravity.
missiles need to be affected by gravity.
I'm sure that missiles have such a high TWR and gravity generators have such a small range and weak field that it will be completely superfluous on the missiles.
So much so that its simply not worth the calculation costs to move a a missile a couple of feet off target at most.
missiles need to be affected by gravity.
Then a capital ship would just need to line itself with spherical gravity generators.
guys
fucking hell
for the last time, gravity isn't supposed to be the feature that it is. In the SE universe, it isn't "gravity generators!" it's "a way to feasibly move around ships". If the devs maintain their original vision and find an interesting way to move about ships in a 0G environment, I fully expect that gravity generators will eliminated entirely in certain hardcore gamemodes. There won't be any official "gravity shields" or shit like that.
Source: Their first blogpost ever and the fact that gravity generators consume negligible amounts of power

Yes but this entire game is about finding almost unintended uses for things as part of the whole 'engineering gig'.
Also they just add spherical gravity generators for us to play with and then link videos of people making shields and weapons out of them onto their social media.
I think they're here to stay. But I just don't think its worth calculating their effect on objects where they have a negligible effect on. Such as projectiles.

Not talking about a stupid system with hunger, etc. I mean air and heat.

No it isn't. The game is certainly about being creative with physical and mechanical designs, but when you mess with things like gravity generators and perpetual motion machines, you're cheesing the game. It's neat, and the community has a sub-culture that supports it, but it isn't intended in the design of the game. Crazy mechanical contraptions made of rotors, pistons, etc? Hell yeah. Abusing gravity mechanics? No.
