No it isn't. The game is certainly about being creative with physical and mechanical designs, but when you mess with things like gravity generators and perpetual motion machines, you're cheesing the game. It's neat, and the community has a sub-culture that supports it, but it isn't intended in the design of the game. Crazy mechanical contraptions made of rotors and pistons? Hell yeah. Abusing gravity mechanics? No.
Um, yes it is, Do you know what Engineers do?
Um, yes it is, Do you know what Engineers do?
You're not looking at the big picture. [editline]27th August 2014[/editline] tbh i don't think you're even looking past the first sentence of that post

The devs have repeatedly said that they don't want to add "one function items" unless they feel like the really need to but they like adding items to the game that they can just see how players use and apply them. Thats why they wanted to add the spherical grav gen as well.
The community culture^, because they're still neat contraptions that people find fun to watch http://blog.marekrosa.org/2013/09/artificial-gravity-in-space-engineers.html The game itself^

I don't want to pretend to be some authority on this, but I've spent some time interacting with the devs over skype and I think I understand the direction they want to go with regards to this sort of thing.
nevermind, nodachi. nevermind.
I mean even the social media 'culture' post you so quickly dismissed is ran by one of the devs personally.
yes, they regularly share cool community work because it's a dev run page for the community. you just aren't going to see vanilla prefab "gravity powered" ships, or prefabs with piston-merger platforms or trollish gravity shields. would you please serve your ban now.
nevermind, nodachi. nevermind.
Everytime I see someone quoting a post and disagreeing with it, 9/10 it's you they're disagreeing with, unsurprisingly.
Everytime I see someone quoting a post and disagreeing with it, 9/10 it's you they're disagreeing with, unsurprisingly.
that's cool because the last time i posted in an SE thread before 2 days ago was november.

It happens so often Smurfy bought me a title because its funny. Honestly would he be this civil? Anyway they all got very excited by seeing contraptions like that and were talking about how its cool seeing what people come up with over skype before they decided to share it over facebook.
how funny that you and nodachi joined fp within a month of each other!
how funny that you and nodachi joined fp within a month of each other!
So did me and you. Maybe we're all the same schizophrenic poster, or some form of modern Arts project? oh wait I assumed you were from 2005. Never mind. anyway back to the point Gravity gens are not some temporary solution. They're the only good solution so they're here to stay, and while they're here to stay they're going to continue to expand and support their use. But that doesn't mean we're going to see missiles and bullets interacting with gravity fields, because that wouldn't be worth the calculation costs.
That's fair. I'm still pretty confident that the game itself, when it becomes a game (if), things like that won't be encouraged. It's just an engine right now with some fun toys and lego building blocks, but they seem to be pushing towards...something.
Again I kind of disagree. I don't expect this game to be any 'more' than what it is already when its finished. Just doing everything it does currently better and with more features and polish.
On another note entirely, this game desperately desperately needs retractable landing gear.
On another note entirely, this game desperately desperately needs retractable landing gear.
Pistons.
Pistons.
Requires a lot of space and aren't very stable.
You know, I really wish we had more shapes/variants of current blocks because the current lack of variety feels a bit restrictive, I've made some rough concepts for some blocks but I'm not sure if I should pursue them as I'm clueless when it comes to Space Engineers modding (and texturing) https://p3d.in/FKen2 Would anyone else use these shapes? I might pursue them if there's an actual interest.
I'm one of those 'less is more' kind of people to be honest.

40 posts overnight implies something interesting happened. It didn't :( [editline]28th August 2014[/editline]
I wonder what one could do with spherical gravity gens, rotors, pistons, and an artificial mass block all confined within the radius of the spherical gravity gen's influence. Might be able to get some cool looking mechanisms.
This game is literally the laggiest fucking thing I've ever played. It's absolutely abysmal, sometimes it just freezes my entire goddamn computer and the only thing to do is pull the plug.

I play on a laptop, and it runs pretty ok.
Perhaps maybe your computer is just a bit shit? I play on a laptop, and it runs pretty ok.
I dunno is 512mb of ram good enough?
To run something like Half Life 1, sure.
I dunno is 512mb of ram good enough?
Multiply that by 8 and maybe
I can't see the point of the notched prism, but the other shapes would be great, especially the flat-bottomed triangular piece.
There are certain places where the notched prism would offer some visual detail and help to break up the shape a bit, it's basically just a detail piece more than anything.
I personally dislike the look of curved pieces but that's just my opinion. The angular pieces would be nice, especially that 5 pointed corner piece. The game sorely needs one of those.
