op's an idiot it's painfully obvious that 'mars 02 canyon' and 'planet template' etc are the asteroids they used in the spherical grav gen video
They have spherical grav generators, working on LODs, and are messing about with "planets" generated by users. How is he an idiot by deducing that the devs are interested in maybe adding planets? Itd be more idiotic to not see a correlation between the updates
the games not really going to be able to simulate planets though. It's not really optimized or built around that, that's why people are pretty doubtful of it
Probably not full-blown planets but there could be asteroids of sufficient size to generate their own gravitational pull

Itd be more idiotic to not see a correlation between the updates
one of the reasons they added spherical generators is FOR the 'planets' made by users, it doesn't mean they intend to go any further than that LODs are sorely needed for the game in general, they have nothing to do with planets anyway my point is that the 'evidence' in question is a load of crap, not whether or not the devs intend to do anything with planets
I doubt they'll ever do full planets, but 30km ish wide "planets" with gravitational pulls of ~1/3 Earth, for gameplay, are probably feasible. A mini-chunk system like minecraft would be in order, but it's not out of the scope of the game.
The big problem with planets is atmosphere. Planets like they are in starmade would look really out of place in this game - they'd have to be more like KSP or that failed infinity game. However for that sort of effect to work, the planet would have to be really big. It's unlikely we will ever see planets in Space Engineers; it's just not what the devs set out to do. Maybe a Space Engineers sequel would feature planets but that is stretching the whole idea a little to far.

He only used them in that video. But then he accidentally faded the blur at the end so people can see below it. Literally nothing to it - except he laughed at making it worse because the faux blur made some people cry conspiracy.

This is their game about modular ships. They plan on making another game that better combines the two in the future. Although that could have changed at some point.
I want a blueprint system so baaaaaad
fuck I hit disagree, fuck you too computer

Is this game anything like EVE and/or could ever become something comparable? Because I'm reading someone's comments somewhere and they're like "oh yeah we can totally make this the next EVE" but I'm fairly sure that EVE occupies a different game niche...
nnnnnnnnnnope
Alright then, because this is some LSG-level stuff right here: [t]http://i.imgur.com/wk5pEwJ.png[/t]

Space Engineers is considered more of a 'Minecraft in space' than anything related to EVE. The only comparison that can be made between EVE and SE is that they both take place in space and you can build and fly ships but in SE's case, ships aren't limited to the stock ships and have full manual control rather than relying on orbits and pointing your ship in directions and telling it to move based on local landmarks.

Regarding that warping network mod: A series of about 20 servers with about 100 people between them (implying the mod is highly successful and the majority of the playerbase likes it), all with roughly the same culture as those popular vanilla survival FFA minecraft servers, would be more than enough for Space Engineers. As nice as it is that SE gets interesting, consistent weekly updates, I would really like to start seeing work on improving asteroid performance and increasing world size, along with the content required to support that (things like radar, simulated dynamic virtual maps, etc) [editline]29th August 2014[/editline] To clarify, I don't see what isn't feasible about the network warp mod.
Alright then, because this is some LSG-level stuff right here:
LSG-level stuff would only fit within the games content. To believe your imaginary game state could destroy EVE Online requires going full Star Citizen delusional.

Networked servers would be neat, but pretending that they are or would be anything more, let along competition for another game, is just wildly optimistic.
LSG-level stuff would only fit within the games content. To believe your imaginary game state could destroy EVE Online requires going full Star Citizen delusional.
hey now, star citizen isn't delusional, i only spent 1000$ on cool looking ships thats not too bad is it
LSG there is your problem, also the game resembling anything like eve would destroy them, they are honestly so inept at everything.
This game isn't even comparable to EVE. I mean one is about submarines and the other is about spaceships.
LSG-level stuff would only fit within the games content. To believe your imaginary game state could destroy EVE Online requires going full Star Citizen delusional.
What level of "Star Citizen Delusional" are we talking here? Is it "It's going to be a cool space game with a bunch of features that haven't been done yet," or "It's going to change the world as we know it, I've spent all my paychecks on Aurora variants?"
I told the guy how optimistic he was being, he replied with "Need I remind you the game is in alpha?" :v: That said, this is the video that spawned this chain of silliness; it was a shipyard/blueprint mod somebody made for their server.
Awesome mod but again LSG lacks common sense, there idea of a sensible boarding craft was a stick covered in seats the believed it would simply pass through defenses and allow the people to get out and take over a ship i built my own version tested it and laughed as it was shredded by least armed ship.
A single turret could take out such a craft.

I left that damned game in 2005, and have no intention of playing any of it's bastard children nor having games i've already paid good money for become it.
EVE got the scale pretty well, maybe that's why
