I seem to be alone in this regard, i enjoyed Halo 4, a lot. There was so much more emotion in everybody in H4, even Chief. It's not like the story was bad, it just wasn't a primarily covenant direction, which was what Bungie was doing almost entirely. Lore is still good, characters had more emotion, and the weapon, armor, and ship designs were better than they ever had been. I've enjoyed all the Halo games, really. it's 100% the reason i want an Xbox 360.
After playing on the free weekend, I'm hooked. I've put 8 hours into it already. The game feels kind of like Descent, actually, I may try and make the ship from that next. I'm definitely going to buy it.

I think Halo 4s art direction is complete ass
pointless greeble: the game star citizen's most ostentatious ships don't have anything on halo 4's weapons
I was at least somewhat agreeing with you up until that point. I think Halo 4s art direction is complete ass
I think the greeble is tasteful. I have 0% problem with it. The BR and the DMR look fucking great, the AR is basically no different, and the Spartan armor perfectly captures the "walking tank" feel that has always been implied.

But the shotgun is just terrible, period. 4s Armor is my least favorite, couldn't tell you why, but it is. Then the promethean weapons and just gaudy and dumb, and completely contradict the forerunner art style of all the previous games, and they even changed all the forerunner architecture for some unfathomable reason. Now the vehicles, the pelican is shit. It's a stupid bloated, thing. The new vehicles in 4 are also all really round and fat and stupid looking. The Lich is the worst, it looks like a flying tick, and that's not a good thing. All in all I really don't like anything about Halo 4s art direction, there's nothing from this game that I like more than previous games. I'm not saying your opinion is wrong or anything, just stating my opinion on the matter.
Well, except for Halo: Reach. That game really screwed the canon over a handrail.
Not really.
I actually genuinely thought I accidentally went into the Halo thread. :v:
Also, Halo has incredible names for all the spaceships. Pillar of Autumn? Makes no sense, but sounds cool!
I Responded to this over in the Halo thread as to not lead the thread even more off topic http://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1250081&p=46211980&viewfull=1#post46211980
Not really.
Halo: The Fall of Reach says that the entire battle only lasted a few hours before the planet's defenses collapsed and the Pillar of Autumn scarpered. Then Bungie's last game comes out and awkwardly stretches the battle into a month-long fight, which is completely incongruous with every prior work in the series. The Pillar of Autumn somehow goes from space to the surface of a planet that's under fire from hundreds of enemy warships and back into space, Covenant warships are apparently able to stroll under the radar and wreck shit without anyone noticing, et cetera... it's an absolute canon nightmare.
I Responded to this over in the Halo thread as to not lead the thread even more off topic http://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1250081&p=46211980&viewfull=1#post46211980
Yeah, that's probably a better idea. Back to Space Engineers, then.
Man I wish Halo was a game that you could play if you don't want a Microsoft console. I might be able to have an opinion in that case.
Halo 1's weapons were the best. No pointless greeble, they looked 100% functional and believable.
Alright, alright, we've all had our fun. Back to Space Engineers, yeah?
I started excavation of EB-01A, warheads actually carve out a decent tubular tunnel for a two story hallway
I started excavation of EB-01A, warheads actually carve out a decent tubular tunnel for a two story hallway
You should arrange the reactors like mitochondria, the c&c centre like dna, etc.
Wow, just tried survival for the first time in maybe 5 months. Playing on 3x and I got bored after like 30 minutes. The tedium is real.
Wow, just tried survival for the first time in maybe 5 months. Playing on 3x and I got bored after like 30 minutes. The tedium is real.
I can't play survival unless it's on 10x. Everything is just too slow.
Anyone else still lagging to shit in this? I can't run easy start 2 at over 30 FPS no matter which settings I use.
Anyone else still lagging to shit in this? I can't run easy start 2 at over 30 FPS no matter which settings I use.
Framerate in this game for me is weird. When I've been playing for a while building ships, the framerate starts to drop. Changing a graphical setting like VSync on and off again puts the framerate back to 60. But sometimes when I'm in Survival near a big asteroid the game just starts to... slow down. The framerate isn't changed that much, everything just happens slower.
Sometimes symmetry makes the game lag alot.
Sometimes symmetry makes the game lag alot.
I've noticed that yeah. When I'm building the game tends to get slower and slower untill I restart it, after which it's fine again. It seems like there's some kind of (memory?) leak going on with symmetry mode. Even though; I wasn't building stuff at all while testing and it just was low FPS all over.
I haven't noticed any slowdowns when playing for longer periods of time myself, but it does have big performance problems, the "flashing lights" update cut my FPS in half, which sucks. And armor is still see-through :I I feel like the shit FPS and LoD issues might be connected somehow
I can't play survival unless it's on 10x. Everything is just too slow.
I had a session recently with a friend whose world was set entirely to the "realistic" speeds, and mining/constructing was so agonizingly slow, not only because of the production and smelting speeds, but because I could only fucking carry 4000 litres of material. I could pick up maybe five large rocks before having to dump them off, and making gravity generators, med stations, any of the specialized shit, I could only carry one of the special components at a time.
I could only fucking carry 4000 litres of material.
Don't you mean 400 litres? 4000 is the amount you hold on 10x mode. :v:
It was going pretty well until they went too far up their own ass re: Forerunners.
Yeah, I'm not too happy with how 343 rushed the story.. Sure the outline was there from when Bungie had it (Requiem was seen in Halo 3 Legendary ending) Well at least I hope that's what they had planned because I would hate to know that 343 is totally twisting the story. But yeah, on topic, warp drives would be cool as shit but they wouldn't really fit into this game yet. Maybe when we get a procedural galaxy of sorts and more sci-fi mods take off.

They enact a force on the object without interaction, they break the theoretical speed limit of the game (sometimes), and if you build them right, they legitimately look like stereotypical warp drive cores.

Same goes for the Forerunner stuff nothing was really meant to expand on them other then what you saw on the Halo's and Terminals within Halo 3. Back to Space Engineers: I tried making the Pillar of Autumn but I can't get the scale right and now I'm sad

That shit was supposed to be streamlined and stuff to "Reduce grip points" to increase their chances in hand to hand combat. Anyways, I'm trying out that functionality and interior before exterior building style. [t]http://i.imgur.com/E8OmxKv.jpg[/t] [t]http://i.imgur.com/gGONxKV.jpg[/t] [t]http://i.imgur.com/0hC3XQL.jpg[/t] [t]http://i.imgur.com/OBBM0du.jpg[/t] It actually handles pretty well. That's probably the lack of a lot of armor.
what a gorgeous thruster it really goes with that barebones frame feel
