they already function as buttons.
I mean as graphical displays akin to KSP's vessel viewer and RasterPropMonitor.
Bonus content? If it's aesthetic crap, then whatever, but if it's actual functionality, then that's a big no.
[editline]3rd November 2014[/editline]
From the site:
Still no idea what that bonus digital content, but I don't think they'd be so stupid as to make certain functional items available only to ltd. edition buyers.
If anyone deserves anything special is us early adopters!
I'd like an option to buy branded posters of the wallpapers and art bits they released initially, those are pretty dope and would look sick on my wall
If the box is anything to go by, it's just wallpapers and concept art

Not sure how well it's gonna sell with titles like "4th best indie game" and "Most unusual online game". :v:
"Most unusual" must be developer-speak for "it doesn't work quite yet".

Who the hell are MergeGames and Headup Games? I thought Keen worked on SE alone.

They will likely be distributing the physical version.
VALVe was both the developer and publisher of The Orange Box on STEAM, whereas EA Games was the publisher for the physical games on both PC and the consoles.
I keep running out of ideas for filling the interior of my ships. I design from the outside in and wind up with a bunch of empty space after I have all the weapons and hangars and bridges and mess halls/cabins/medbays I need.

Design from the inside out. It's easier to build an interesting hull around a ship than cram an interior into an existing hull. That's what I'm doing on my current project.
Also, if you've got empty space, use it for more armor/gyros/reactors. You can never have too many of those.
You have to think about both. If you only think about the interior first, build the interior in its entirety, and then start building the exterior, your ship will have no shape variety and nothing to make it stands out against the horde of minimalistic rectangle cruisers with engine fairings that populate reddit weekly.
[editline]3rd November 2014[/editline]
Honestly if you're going to spend 5-15 hours on a single build, you're best off making mockups on paper to start.
if i start with the interior
i end up with one wonky ass ship
i have to like build them both
I always lay down one long strip of armor and work around it, letting ideas take over. I very rarely start out with an initial idea and when I do, it always looks like a turd.
I usually start with the engines, and build around that to compensate for centre of mass.
Has anyone used this collection of mods before? I found it on Reddit and it seems interesting so I subscribed to it, but I'm not sure how it works, or if it works well.
I just thought of an idea;
What if, instead of having clunky merge blocks and rotors and stuff, we had the basic armor block, that you then had to add enhancements to it, like merge block nubs, or a rotor axis. Certain blocks wouldn't be able to be combined for obvious reasons, such as the reactor, and the piston. This way we could have a huge space saver and, at the same time, make it more realistic.
Like this;

Thoughts?

I haven't used the whole collection, I don't think, but the script itself is neat. It spawns wave after wave of fighters (which replace cargo ships) which approach your ship and try to damage it. It's not forgiving at all though, and it's best if you start a new world solely for the mod.

Finished the exterior of the MAC ship, except for a little docking nodule I intend to add on top near the back:

Also, I took it for a spin around my asteroid cluster and noticed some odd sparks/dust coming from the back as I made a wide turn at full speed, so once I was parked back at the base I went to investigate what could have been the only source of damage, and holy shit

That little fucking globe tore through a colossal swath of ship when I was flying at max speed. The second picture shows where it ended in the reactor room. I guess for now, rotors and pistons should be limited to stations and low-speed applications.

I've seen similar problems. Pistons and rotors tend to shear off if you maneuver hard enough.
A rotating satellite dish on top of my first capital ship a long time ago once burrowed into the reactor room and took out both main engines as well as about half of the reactors. It was fucking stupid.
I'm surprised nobody has come out with a mod that simply disables damage for rotors and pistons.

I'm not sure if that would be as simple as it sounds.

It would have to make things attached by rotors/pistons not even collide with their parent object.

I like the retracting staircase where each step moves on it's own. Easy to do and seems relatively stable compared to the fancy rotor-bending ones.

It's cool and all, but I can't imagine that those won't promptly annihilate the ship if you tried maneuver it more than a couple of meters.
But yeah, I also liked the staircase one.
I hope they add better ways to make stuff like this later.

So I tried this out and it doesn't seem to work. The enemy ships just kind of float around like normal and don't attack you.
what's that staircase mod?
Part of the "Ripptide's CW & EE Continued" mod/modpack. It includes both "combo walls" (which diversify your choice in interior walls) and those kickass consoles and monitors you see in my command room and bridge.

Where did you get the globe model from? Looks pretty neat.

the Planetarium mod, I think. It adds 1x1x1 and 3x3x3 holographic globes of the planets in our solar system and an asteroid cluster. It'd be nice if it had a fictional planet or two, though.
