remember when they said they wanted to make a setting for realistic sound
I still wish they're going to do that at some point
The sound block could still work if you're touching the same grid the "speaker" is on
remember when they said they wanted to make a setting for realistic sound
they said no AI as well
look what happened to that
i'm not criticizing them, the more tools for programming the merrier
it's just funny
Decided to just simply store some shit in it, load the turrets and send it on its merry way.

Fuck yeah. Now we can have better engine ambiance, or dubstep guns, or sirens.
I am fully erect.

Has this viewmodel bug for fighter cockpits always been here?
[t]http://i.imgur.com/tUxiaHh.jpg[/t]
There is no actual gap between cockpit and those blocks.
Yeah stuff starts looking really weird when you look around inside cockpits, not sure why but I wish they would patch it at some point, it looks particularly bad when using the cockpits from this mod, the screen just flies off

Pretty sure that it de-renders the actual exterior cockpit model and renders a special interior around your camera, but it's offset or something so the view goes all screwy if you look around.

That is exactly what it does, I just didn't realise it screws up the projection that bad

In other news, firing reloadable rocket launchers just crashed the game.
Think they released a hotfix just now and it doesnt fix the newly added light color changing glitch.
Red and white color lights are the only unaffected by said glitch.
Example: Ship with blue lights, copy it, paste it, ship now has lightblue lights.
Same thing with Saving world and reloading it.
"Old" worlds and blueprints are unaffected as long as you dont update them.
Something I really liked about the actual update for today is that they removed the thruster effect glitch without knowing they did.

Am i the only one who won't trust sensors with anything?
Someone suggested i should use sensors rather than timer blocks to launch torpedos and i've since spent several hours trying to make them fucking do the fucking things i fucking want them to fucking do but all they ever do is activate when i don't want them to and do fuck all when they're supposed to.
It's bloody annoying i tell ya!

the literal minute after i posted that i got the damn thing working :v:

How do I make my ships look less like ugly hunks of metal?
google. mess around with contrasting colours. build a heavy armor frame then sculpt with light armor. Thats how i work

Start with some shape in your mind, draw up a frame, smooth the exterior and place things inside.
Build a logical frame, add armour onto frame untill it shapes into something usefull.
Build an entire fancy ship interior, and build an exterior around it.
Copy a ship from a film, and try to recreate it.
These are the most used methods I know.
We can already hear stuff in the game, so why not.
No, I get that, but I always figured that was out of convenience, and that at some point way down the line they'd add a realistic sound option like in that one video of Squeegy's.
I didn't think they'd, you know, go in the other direction. I just think it's a bit odd, is all - it's the opposite of what you'd expect.

It could just be a sound transmitter in addition to being a speaker. We already know the suits and most ships have remote communications capacity.
I thought the sound blocks where just like the motion detectors in modern cars that tell you when you're too close to something. the sound plays from your stereo, or in this case, a cockpit.

A few things I guess:
-Avoid twig-looking structures. Move the nacelles closer; they look weak there.
-Avoid too much flatness in structure. Lateral flatness is the killer here, it makes your ship look stiff. Move the nacelles down as well.
-Don't round everything off. Sharp edges can be just as useful as slopes. Elongate the nacelles.
-Same for the center piece. You've sloped the entire shape and that makes it look amorphous. Stepped shapes are the worst example of "overly smooth ships". Last picture shows this well.
-The rounded nacelles are weak looking. They're basically cubes with thrusters sticking out the back. The ship is long, so elongate the nacelles. Think of shapes in terms of ratios of width to length. Too low of a ratio and your ship looks squat and awkward. Same goes for individual pieces.
[editline]11th December 2014[/editline]
Prow is a bit weak too. It looks like a rectangle with bumps added to the end instead of one contiguous shape. Too much detail. Form it with large, basic shapes instead (EG attach a triangle to the end of your rectangle)
[editline]11th December 2014[/editline]
Small thrusters look best in chunks rather than lines. Do a couple powerpacks of 2x2 or 2x4 along the side instead of lining up 16 in a row. You can give them strong cowls when they're arranged in packs too (EG, ramps above and below, set all the way into the hull, etc, but never ramps on all 4 sides)
[editline]11th December 2014[/editline]
As a rule of thumb, avoid \_/ mounds at all costs. You can see them on the sticks and on the prow. \_/ mounds are also how some people cowl thrusters, which is what I was referring to never do in the edit above this one.
I imagine the sound block doesn't actually make sound on its own, and instead broadcasts a signal to your suit to play that noise, and the other sounds are just suit triggered noises so space isn't fucking creepy.
We can already hear stuff in the game, so why not.
They did say they would consider adding sound modelling akin to that video some guy put together a few months ago where everything was muffled and mostly silent. They made a post about it on facebook and the blog I think.
[editline]12th December 2014[/editline]
I should probably read the next page before posting. Seems people have already mentioned this.
Anyone else have totally broken rotors? Breaking force seems to be completely useless at the moment.

I wonder if they could pull off something like Shattered Horizon, where turning off your power systems turns off sound simulations as well.
that would be amazing. shame that when your suit loses power you are kill.
Shattered Horizon was horribly underrated, I loved that game. I know the fps part of Space Engineers isn't important to the devs but if somewhere down the line they made it as good as shattered horizon, that would be epic.
Maybe a post-release DLC some years down the line.

Well I meant the power in ships, but it would be interesting if you just had a button to switch off your own life support :v:.
Accidentally wrecked your multi-day build by deleting a single block and want to end it all? Well now it's a feature!

I remember a few years back Futuremark showed off some footage of a sequel that was a space-dogfighter instead of a space-shooter. Shame nothing ever happened of it.
made some changes
