Space Engineers - Say goodbye to Starmade and Blockade runner.

[QUOTE=Kickasskyle;42656697]I'm interested to see how they've handled fire control on the big ships, if we can group weapons systems up and have them toggle between automatically firing on stuff or manual control. It's something a lot of games seem to forget about when making big ships they think the simple make everything fire at whatever the player is pointing at approach is the only way.
If they did just have weapon grouping that allowed you to toggle between automated/manual I'd be fine with that. But, optimistically you'd be able to, for instance, group together a bunch of shitty close range machine guns and have set them to a specific role: for instance close-in weapons system, anti fighter, anti ship. Using the weapon role you set, that group of weapons would have targeting priorities eg: (Missiles>Small>Large) in the case of something like CWIS.
I think the only recent game I can remember that handles grouped ship weapons well was star sector, it was easy as hell to manage a ship with lots of guns on that game.[/QUOTE]
Sounds cool, I was thinking something similar while building my large ship. It would be awesome to have crewmen man battery emplacements in a big ship, for example, along the left side of a ship with four turrets which all shoot in the same direction. That way the captain can fly the ship and focus on capital targets while crewmen hop in a controller for the turret groups and shoot down bombers and fighters.
I believe Starmade has a similar thing for turrets where you can have turrets 'docked' to your ship's exterior, and they can be entered by another player and manually controlled, or left to automatically shoot down targets.
Also, what do y'all think about having Life Support in the game? Both in ships and stations? It could be interesting with a sort of simple 'wire' system, for example, a ship collides into yours tearing a hole in your hull, naturally all the atmosphere in that room is sucked out into space, however in that event, the doors in that room all close, containing vacuum to the breached room only. Later, repairman can put spacesuits on and enter the breached room to repair the hull and restore life support to that area.
And then I came back to do some more.

I know what you're talking about, it was a unwieldy system though.
Just got this game and built this tiny little pirate ship.

Can't wait for friggin' weapons.
Giant ships need giant guns that can fire relativistic projectiles like artillery
Lots of small guns are more like automatic close range defense system.

I'm telling you, I want MAC guns and big old mining lasers repurposed as beam lasers.
MAC's would have been used to break asteroids into smaller chunks so they could be more easily reprocessed, and beam lasers would have been used to make precision cuts or drill holes
I think it'd be cool to have a gun where you build a launcher, and then a tube or channel or the like for it, and each increment requires more power but increases the damage and travel speed of the projectile.

I had said that a few pages back- make it so that beam lasers or MAC's required more capacitors or something, but that these capacitors should be volatile or vulnerable to make up for their power
Bought the game, made a pretty cool ship, saved it, but when I tried to load it back up it says the save is corrupted. Is this normal or did I just get screwed?
Holy hell the main engines were hard to make. Symmetry was a pain.

EDIT:
Reworked the bottom set of thrusters.

welp
bit the bullet and bought space engineers
I'm wondering if the magic speed limit is ever going to go away.
An option to hold a button for space brakes would be nice too.

I gotta blast me some xenos
I really want to build Space Battleship Yamato but I suck.

Made a cargo freighter

I don't have the game yet (I really want it!) But has anyone built a USS Enterprise yet?
You guys are cool.
I barely have enough creativity for a box.
Sienar Fleet Systems is proud to unveil its newest design: the TIE/sa Bomber!

This state of the art fighter maintains (most of) the maneuverability of our famed TIE fighter while carrying armament heavy enough for it to fill a much-needed anti-capital role!

Order 10 squadrons now, and we'll throw in an extra one free!

See, this is where those contractors get you. They sell the bomber for cheap then charge a premium on the proton bombs.
How the Christ do you guys even begin to comprehend what design your ship is going to take? I am the least creative person in this thread. I try and make a flashy, nice-looking ship, but I just end up with a box.

I thought of a ship design I liked in Homeworld, and when it started to look nothing like it I just went with it to make it look original. Sometimes it just seems to be luck when a ship design works out.
Decided to make a blockade runner.

Why does a space ship need intakes? Hell if I know.

Haven't decided how to paint it yet.
Just got this today and I have to say, someone better make the mega-maid from spaceballs
[img]http://img828.imageshack.us/img828/6646/megamaid1.jpg[/img]
Oh and I attempted to make a cruising 1 man ship, the result was sort of like this (Forgive steam's shitty pic quality and the headless cosmonaut glitch.):
[img_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/7Hwd3OD.jpg[/img_thumb]
I guess I'm not painting the blockade runner since when I reloaded the save it was corrupt.
[editline]27th October 2013[/editline]
Yeah okay fuck this game.
[editline]27th October 2013[/editline]
I followed the instructions on how to fix corrupted saves and it just reset the world, so any information that may have been saved is permanently gone. That's excellent.
So, I made a sort of stealth cargo/transport ship. I call it the Gremlin.

I honestly can't be assed to do anything until they get some symmetry tools in.
Blockade runner may now be dead, but that is one thing they did perfect; the actual building. There was an editor that allowed you to move around quickly, various brushes (cube, pyramid, sphere), scaling tools, symmetry walls that you placed yourself (you could have 4 way symmetry) along with really snappy keyboard shortcuts.

This game is heavily in alpha dude, expect glitches like this.
You payed for early access to an unfinished game, they are working on these bugs.
Yeah, the game won't even launch for me at this point after two reinstalls
I really liked Starmade, but this looks so much cooler so I picked it up today. Gonna have to try and keep up with all these amazing ship designs.
