Is it not just some modded cargo ship and not one of the community ships?
Maybe it could be moving around if the ship was allowed fuel and is automated.
If its the later, maybe a taste of what automated enemy fleets would be like, with just the 1 ship.
It got to our Asteroid and stopped and camped outside.
Its from the Hostile Universe mod with Moar ships installed ontop.
So we was. Making our base in an asteroid.
We see something called Hurricane 10k away. Slowly gets closer, by about 5k we see it's heading to us.
2.5k, we see it's big.
It flys LITERALLY just under our Asteroid. Firing at us and into our Asteroid.

Oh hey that ship design is from EVE

Pretty cool

that's what happens when you spend 5 minutes building something that's designed to get you from A to B
but that screenshot is already outdated, i've changed the glass a bit and gave it landing gear as well.
i call it the rhino.
i even had an adventure already that's still ongoing as a matter of fact.

getting ready to leave the station (the cannons don't do anything)

i came across this weird asteroid

naturally, i had to fly through it (nothing of value)

aaaaaaand now i'm lost in space, i'll never find the station again

is it me or has SE become donut simulator?
Exploring is fun.

As many donuts as I've seen from videos and screenshots alone, I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if there were a coder on the team named "Homer".
i like how the asteroid generator consists of mainly 3 asteroids.
spiky pinecone, big flat asteroid, or donuts for days.
a reminder that it's still in alpha
So I found my very first ship today, it was a small heavy armor fighter with twin guns and rockets. As I was bringing it home, I accidentally looked away for too long and came back right as I was about to plow into my starter ship.
The fighter lost most of it's components, but somehow (thank god for heavy armor) retained at least one thruster for each direction, a gyro, and a reactor. My starter also lost a large chunk of it's stuff, including its gyro, assembler, and refinery (by some miracle all 6 directional thrusters survived on it too). So after panicking and realizing that the game auto-saved 3 seconds prior to impact, I spent 20 minutes trying to stop it's spin and eventually managed to do that by jamming what was left of my fighter into the hole in my ship.
This is all that's left after this misadventure:

I got so ridiculously lucky, because just before all of this went down I removed all of the conveyors on the ship and moved my cargo pod where it is now, had I not I would have lost all of my materials.
I also survived that impact with only 10% health, which was nice because I cannibalized my medical station to make a mining drone earlier. And now I just need to survive (read: get lucky) a few more meteor showers while I cannibalize more of my ships and re-build a gyro.
Might I also mention that this is all on realistic....
For anyone who doesn't know C#: Provided you have an understanding of programming, you can easily learn the amount of C# you'll need for SE.

Moreover, you can actually learn C# by messing around with this. I got a lot of my beginning programming experience from GMod Lua scripting :v:

I'm a web developer and the first turtle I got to cut down a tree promptly went off in a direction and never came back.
It happens to the best of us.
I like to imagine if a I tried to make a turtle i'd accidently make it grey goo
anyway lets get back to space engies
the only ships i've come across are enemy mining ships
so i chase after them and blow them to bits, at least until they disable my ship's weapons, then i have to respawn a new ship and repeat the process
took me like ten ships to do it
thank you devs for the blueprint function
Ok continuing on my story, so far so good. I converted my minding drone into a grinder so that I could strip the fighter of the stuff it had left since I need a fuck ton of plates for the refinery and gyro (once again, thank god it was made with heavy armor).
I managed to build a gyro without too many issues, but upon inspection of the assembler it turned out it uses 80 fucking computers.....
So i tore up my little remote station, the pilot seat, put a small-ship open cockpit on my drone and a remote control block on my starter. Thankfully that was enough so I managed to make it! Now I'm just waiting for the grinding to finish, and then we're off.
My luck is running out though cause a meteor just took out two rear thrusters. Hopefully I'll be ok.
I would prefer if all the resources where readily availible everywhere but instead appeared in much smaller quantities.
Huh, I actually thought that's how it used to be. The first game or two I played, my asteroid had a little bit of pretty much everything. Now resources seem way more limited but I dunno if that's the world settings or it was just luck or they changed it or or what.
I like how it is right now, forces people to move instead of camping one spot and never running any risks for resources.
This is from a multiplayer perspective of course.
The starting ships could use a bit more uranium though.
I made to little ships: the Weldertron and Grindomatic.

I like them.
How do you people find community ships, I've been flying around in spectator mode for hours and there's nothing
Enable debug draw, you'll notice the dummy text
Thanks holy shit, instantly saw like eight, this kinda feels like cheating but I would've never seen these single pixels in the distance otherwise
50km is not enough range for antennas. 250k pls
I think the power consumption should either increase exponentially, OR special high material uber antennae could be made.
They should make a radar module that links to a broadcast antenna and alerts you of any ships in range. Also, antennas should be able to relay through each other. So, if I'm controlling a small drone I don't have to be within range of my character, I just have to be in range of any antenna that I control and is within range of my character (or another antenna, and so on).
That way, we could establish territory by placing antenna platforms.
The antenna relaying thing technically is in the game, but from what I've seen on the official forums it might just be broken right now.
How flexible are remote controls in this game? My friends and I have a hidden, personal space station and the only downside to that is either we leave the beacon on and let outsiders find us or we leave someone at base to toggle the beacon. Is there any way to set up a remote toggle?

Yeah, you can control everything through an antenna as you would normally use a control panel, but I think your antenna will show up on the enemy HUD as well, making it kinda pointless
I hope the new programming would allow me to make an automated radio seeking minefield.
In this same aspect, having a drone get sent out that will hone in on a specific block (like a door), follow it at 500m, and enable a beacon would be sweet to find derelict ships.
Auto-miners would be the best thing ever, really. My main gripe in SE is that I often spend more time mining than I do building ships.
Yes, yes, there's already "auto-miners", I mean miners that will automatically realize they're full of stuff, head back to base, unload, and then resume mining.
I hope the new programming would allow me to make an automated radio seeking minefield.
Probably won't be able to until we get better sensors (radar, LIDAR, fucking SOMETHING). I think the devs explained that the programming system, unlike Expression 2, won't be able to "know" or move anything without physical systems.
Duh, but worth remembering.
[editline]31st December 2014[/editline]
I do hope that attitude (taken from gyroscopes) will be possible to acquire, otherwise a lot of things will be difficult. Maybe antenne in the same network will output attitude and distance to programming blocks.
