So I thought a good idea for getting ship designs down was to make concept schematics first. I ended up getting really carried away :v:. [t]http://i.imgur.com/MtBmUIA.png[/t]
I think Space Engineers takes place from a 2077 standpoint but who cares.
I think Space Engineers takes place from a 2077 standpoint but who cares.
Two of the quotes in the loading screen are from Wikipedia pages in the year 2077, so yeah. They also have a Wikipedia page from the year 2077 on their main website:
who are space engineers A space engineer is a professional practitioner who uses scientific knowledge, mathematics, physics, astronomy, propulsion technology, materials science, structural analysis, manufacturing and ingenuity to solve practical problems in space. Space engineers design materials, structures and systems while considering the limitations imposed by practicality, regulation, safety, ethicality and cost. Space engineers are grounded in applied sciences and their work in research and development is distinct from the basic research focus of space scientists. Practical solutions: engineering, construction and maintenance of space works: open-space stations, asteroid stations, space crafts of all sizes and utilization (civil and military), remote sensing technology, artificial gravity generators asteroid mining (mostly near a construction site) maintaining lines of transport and communications industrial and scientific research, development and exploration In war times, space engineering involves military engineering as well. Such tasks typically include construction and demolition tasks under combat conditions. Military engineers use practices and techniques of camouflage, reconnaissance, communication methods and enhancement of survival by other troops. They are also responsible for construction rigging, the use of explosives and carrying out demolitions, camouflage erection, battleship construction and design, field fortification construction, artillery outpost construction, obstacle clearance, obstacle construction, assault of fortifications, the use of assault ships in obstacle crossings, expedient space station construction, general construction, route reconnaissance, and communication installations. They are also responsible for logistics behind military tactics. They take pride in their ability to get the job done right—no matter how big, how complex or how remote. The word "engineer" derives from the Latin root ingeniare ("to contrive, devise") and ingenium ("cleverness"). — Wikipedia, 2077 —
Because that would've bugged me forever and ever, I actually [wasted] the time to change the year. This is what happens when you decide to become a hard-science writer kids!
I guess I'm not painting the blockade runner since when I reloaded the save it was corrupt. [editline]27th October 2013[/editline] Yeah okay fuck this game. [editline]27th October 2013[/editline] I followed the instructions on how to fix corrupted saves and it just reset the world, so any information that may have been saved is permanently gone. That's excellent.
You'll probably want to post on their forums and attach the corrupted save so they can determine what caused the corruption; if you've still got the corrupted version.
Yeah, the game won't even launch for me at this point after two reinstalls
That's rather bizarre. Post on their tech support forum, attach the log files in %appdata%\SpaceEngineers, if they exist. Steam should automatically install needed things like .NET, but you might want to check what versions you currently have installed.
Welp I can't run this at all, unless i'm in an empty world. Wish there was a way to just generate a single station, a single ship, and a single asteroid, just to try everything out. and I've always wanted to build a space truck, yet I am not skilled enough:
I wonder how welder and other tools will work. I think they might work like that - you build a 'schematic' of ship and you use the tools to connect and make bricks appear, so in co-op we will be able to work as multiple engineers on one ship.

Schematics would mean it's more like the bulk of the work is done you just need to load in the thing very slowly. Could open up roleplay possibilities and a dynamic server. Miners get ore, sell to traders, traders buy and sell to people making ships, people work on the ships until it's ready and then use it to kill enemies/pirates for cash. Everyone gets a role to fill. I'm still waiting for a game to come along to be a multiplayer game like the X-series!
How do I remove blocks after I've placed them? Also how do I stop my small ships from floating away after nudging them accidentally
How do i prevent ships from randomly flying into space like here i built this [T]http://cloud.steampowered.com/ugc/848094047838287160/6DFBF712AC2569503D3F7691D8A9A2FA7E9EBB7E/1024x768.resizedimage[/T] and now its gone [T]http://cloud.steampowered.com/ugc/848094047838295567/0E950E0A21E360D336D89FC4D3C44C03BD94D437/1024x768.resizedimage[/T]
How do I remove blocks after I've placed them? Also how do I stop my small ships from floating away after nudging them accidentally
To remove a block - right click on it: Note: you will send blocks floating off if you disconnect a block so that is no longer connected to the original ship block nor will you be able to build off of it. To stop small ships floating off: You can't but you can protect against it. Just build a large ship around it to block it from floating away, similar to a hangar or an enclosed cube. You still need to be careful when bumping it cause you will risk damage if it collides with the big ship.
Finished the bridge (mostly). Playing around with the idea of having it be able to fly independently of the main ship if it gets severed. At the moment, I just stuck rear thrusters there since it looked like a suitable place. [t]http://i.imgur.com/6Gj2IOY.jpg[/t][t]http://i.imgur.com/bDVgYeV.jpg[/t]
I'm thinking maybe thinner material should snap off under pressure of turning etc. because this looks kinda awkward [t]http://i.imgur.com/ANf9tLv.jpg[/t]
I'm thinking maybe thinner material should snap off under pressure of turning etc. because this looks kinda awkward [t]http://i.imgur.com/ANf9tLv.jpg[/t]
Nah man its perfectly normal for ships to look like this and be completely operational: [img_thumb]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/54374248/SpaceEngineers%202013-10-24%2018-05-47-25.jpg[/img_thumb]
All you need is a cockpit, gyro, reactor and a single thruster and the ship is flyable no matter how much damage its hull has sustained.
I think i made a space bumperkart

Mining Ship V.2 - Because triangluar slopes make ugly ships look better.
Mining Ship V.2 - Because triangluar slopes make ugly ships look better. What do you guys think?
It looks like a minning drone / Illegal or obsolete low class miner, used by outlaws, freelancers, etc. Not that it's a bad thing, just my impressions of it ;) .
It reminds me of those little flitters you see in Independence War 2, which rather makes me like it.
Can't start my game, have to access the forums through a VPN. :psyduck: does the game access the internet on startup? that might be the problem fffffffffffffff
Can't start my game, have to access the forums through a VPN. :psyduck: does the game access the internet on startup? that might be the problem fffffffffffffff
I think that's probably the case, as they don't seem to use Steam's usual update method for updating the game (or at least, before the Steam Early Access release they didn't)
What do you guys think?
It reminds me of one of those ants with the huge ass that carries honey.
Anybody managed to build bigger than that one pillar of autumn yet?
Well mine's probably bigger, it weighs 4000 tons more [editline]27th October 2013[/editline]
[t]http://i.imgur.com/4b2uxIl.jpg[/t]
I dig that rear.
Gave in and bought it Space adventure ahoy!
I dig that rear.
I wanted to kinda go with some kind of cargo thing that could take all sizes of ships. So could probably fit some medium stuff in the back and top, and smaller things through the front. I scrapped the entire front after about half an hour because if I continued as it was at the time it would have ended up resembling a penis.
I made an giant wasp http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=189538410

I hope i'm not overreaching myself here. Not quite decided on whether it should be thicker than it currently is (the flat vertical section is 10 blocks currently, the diagonals are 5 blocks tall) but the flat vertical section perpendicular to the windows will be the location of 3 forward thruster locations (the second being mirrored to the other side, and the third not that far behind the bridge) [t]http://i.imgur.com/hbsRiZt.jpg[/t] [editline]27th October 2013[/editline] A bloke on the forums has released a tool that allows you to transfer ships between saves, or make multiple copies of the same ship; though be warned it's in a less developed stage than the game itself.
