Oh god what would really be great is a build editor with all the symmetry and stuff, AND a clone/stamp tool so you don't have to painstakingly build each block of a hallway/bridge etc. etc.
I have to say starmades symmetry tools are a freaking godsend.
For reason, the lack of sounds really fits the game.
In space, nobody can hear you crash into twisted piles of metal, laughing like a crazed space psychopath
In space, nobody can hear you crash into twisted piles of metal, laughing like a crazed space psychopath
And in space, no one can hear you die. Man, I can't wait for MP in this game. Mostly for like a big public server. And then several months after the game is released, when everything dies down. And, it's just group of regulars that play on the server. At some point they set out to find a new base on an astroid, only to see someones massive derelict ship crashed into the asteroid, lost to space and time. [editline]29th October 2013[/editline] Which would be also cool if they added in hostile NPCs, imagine not playing for a long time, coming back to a ruined ship that has been inhabited by some big parasite looking thing.
This hardcoded top speed is pissing me off. I wanted to make a 600 mph space plane with as many engines as possible, but all it does is accelerate to 104.7 m/s in about 5 seconds and then hold there. With such big distances in space it's fucking dumb to limit your speed to 234 mph. Real passenger jets go 600 mph. [editline]29th October 2013[/editline] Also, can you split ships in half? Like if you were to actually destroy all the blocks connecting two pieces would they drift apart separately?

Has anyone made the perfect boarding ship? I'm currently working on a ship that is going to have areas for escape pods/a hanger with a ship that launches smaller boarding craft

Also, they better have some sort of shielding tech, I don't care if its only 70 years or so in the future, I want shields so my ship doesn't break in half from the most easiest of things
Has anyone made the perfect boarding ship? You've got hulls of varying strength. You don't need shields. Shields are the weak man's way to keep his dangly ships from falling apart... Like the Enterprise. It's held together by the space equivalent of duct tape, magnetic tension shields.
You'd cross the game world in a minute at those speeds. Oh and yes.
Is there a limit to the size of the world? I'd imagine if it were actually proportioned like a real solar system 234 mph would get you nowhere... Shields are lame as shit. Armor is the way to go
Can't continue building because 'there's not enough memory to place new blocks'. Have I hit a block limit? The game isn't laggy at all, and I'm barely even halfway through making my cruiser.
In space, nobody can hear you crash into twisted piles of metal, laughing like a crazed space psychopath
You'd actually hear a good bit simply from the vibrations through the floor/spacesuit if you're in the ship, but you're right.

I recall seeing it though so I'm pretty sure its' out there.
Pretty sure you can find a mod or something that changes how much memory the game can use, google is your friend. C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\SpaceEngineers Access file SpaceEngineers.CFG. This piece is right at the top.
<Dictionary xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema"> <dictionary> <item> <Key xsi:type="xsd:string">MemoryLimits</Key> <Value xsi:type="xsd:string">True</Value> </item> <item>
Change the True to False. This will disable the memory limit and will keep chewing up memory till your system is full. Note: Files may become corrupted if saved while the memory limit is removed. It may also do it when they are opened as well so back up your save. They are located in the same directory as this file.
And then my game crashed, now I'm having the memory issue. I don't think it's the game even hitting it's memory limit, just a glitch or some such
Is there a limit to the size of the world? I'd imagine if it were actually proportioned like a real solar system 234 mph would get you nowhere...
50kmx50kmx50km its not that big of a space
Well, I made the front of a small ship. I'm not really sure how I'm going to design the back end of it. Any ideas? (Ignore the thruster on the top, it's temporary) [t]http://cloud-2.steampowered.com/ugc/741134203327371876/5BCF484D4C47BCCBDB52E0F9CF0372CDFA296B6D/[/t] [t]http://cloud.steampowered.com/ugc/741134203327373328/AA8C3191314D08DD404AB3CD4F91BEA6A3F081FE/[/t]
I think a good idea is players taking damage/injury/death from drastic changes in vector. This could happen either in one's suit or inside a ship, depending on how fast the players inside come to a stop. I think it would give a good, realistic reason for a lone greifer to not smash their fighter/shuttle into some team's capital ship without it being a real suicide attack. I also think this especially fits well into this game because the time is set sometime in the near future, when frivolities like "Instantaneous Inertia Dampeners" likely haven't been invented yet. It doesn't have to be absolutely realistic, as the suit might have some sort of special safety features in it that allow users to still fly really fast ships, kinda like what fighter pilots today have. It can also make for some funny stories where an entire fighter squadron was approaching a hangar too fast and died, or a lone guy wandering in space and getting squashed by a jerkass in a freighter.

So, I turned it into some type of hauler for now. I still don't care to much for the back end, it looks a bit too blocky. I may expand the rings out to fit the larger ones instead of the mediums. [t]http://cloud-2.steampowered.com/ugc/741134203327947685/D52AECBF89F17EE129A18FBA61CECF80E41CE595/[/t]
Shields or No Shields, I vote No Shields. As cool as they are, they are highly over-used. It's basically the go to method to fixing things in terms of protection with a magical solution. Shields are often used to ward off energy weapons and in some cases deflect ballistic weapons and space debris. But that's an uncreative way of solving those problems and very unrealistic if you ask me. Instead armor really is the only way to go. Not only does it make sense but there are many different types of armor that can be used to handle each situation. For example, say you have a cruiser that you want to be protected all around. You would need to stop things like the basic bullets, rockets/missiles, energy weapons. Well you can't have one armor do two things, so you go for the armor that can absorb energy blasts efficiently. That leaves you with ballistic weapons to deal with. Now you think outside the box. For ballistics, all you need is point defense turrets to shoot down incoming projectiles. As for bullets and other minor, likely fighter specific weaponry, you probably won't have to worry about their tiny weapons scratching your paint all too much. That's how I see it anyway.
I'm really curious how a server will hold out in multiplayer with everyone building large ships.

The music remind me so much of fallout.
