While, It isn't anything really special. I like it.
I've started construction of a big ship.
Can't continue building because 'there's not enough memory to place new blocks'. Have I hit a block limit? The game isn't laggy at all, and I'm barely even halfway through making my cruiser.
This popped up for me to but I chose not to save and just closed the game. Re opened the game and the problem was gone. It is probably just a glitch.
There is a work around to bypass memory limits but it may corupt save files.
C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\SpaceEngineers
Access file SpaceEngineers.CFG.
This piece is right at the top.
Change the True to False. This will disable the memory limit and will keep chewing up memory till your system is full.
Note: Files may become corrupted if saved while the memory limit is removed. It may also do it when they are opened as well so back up your save. They are located in the same directory as this file.
I may have to do this with mine so I can build the star destroyer which is going to be using a hell of a lot of blocks. Good thing I have 16gb of ram
I finished my first large ship last night
Ill post pics when I get home
14.4 thousand tonnes, 10 large reactors (16k GW roughly?) to power the forward thrusters fully, and fuck knows how many blocks. Still haven't finished the basic structure (though i've got most of the very basic outline done so far) as i've been faffing about with details; still agonizing over whether to have the rim of the pseudo-windows shown here recessed or as they are currently.

So I was casually flying through quickstart1 and then had my guts spooked off

By the way, does the small ship shadow look like this to everyone? I can clearly see the astronaut there.

The space engineers are actually ghosts and their towing ability is assisted by the thrusters.
what is the smallest functional ship possible to build?

shipbuilding is fun
what is the smallest functional ship possible to build?
Small cockpit with 1 reactor, 1 gyro and one thruster for each direction. You can probably ignore the reverse thruster (you'd just have to turn 180 to stop going forwards), but it's best to keep the others so you don't go sliding off into various other directions when trying to stop.
my god, i need a bigger pic of this thing
An overview of the whole thing, or a higher resolution of that particular pic?
The body is massively unfinished at the moment; the only part with any semblance of detail is the rear section shown there.
These posts have more pics of the ship (though the basic overlay is currently more complete than shown in the pics)

General plan is that fighters (or small large ships) come out of the inner faces of the arms; those supports you see will cover most of the ship, engines to be placed on the tips of the arms to complement the central reverse thruster (or perhaps not, depends how it looks).
The top and bottom faces will have a lot more detail i.e. mini cityscape sort of thing, not quite sure yet,

Veger is involved with space engineers?
I knew anything involving facepunch and space had some connection to him.

this is the largest thing i've built yet oagdgfdoafga
Decided to try out an idea. Turned out to be a rather iffy one, but gives me an idea as to how to decorate the topside. I'll probably have a little indentation in the floor like that run across the whole topside, and have (less elaborate) structures running across the whole length, studded with turrets. Also might have said structures link to the back of the bridge (replacing the rather pointless thrusters there) so it looks less like a landed craft and more like something firmly attached to the ship.

Started work on the hangars until I get an idea for the top side (just left an indentation there as it's better than totally flat, at least)

Congrats, it's bigger than mine. Hope you don't lag too much though :v:

Are you fucking kidding me, I spent ages building a rammer ship with cockpit inside (fighter-type) and now I can't exit. And I have engines in just one direction, so I can't even get to the cockpit using another ship, FUCK (autosave is off because reasons)
I have been working on a new more complicated ship but I decided to take a break from building and see just how much damage my old ship could do before being unusable.

Very happy with the results. I was able to destroy just about everything.
Completely wrecked the station.

Cut the blue ship in half in one go. Then rammed the red ship and finally my command seat fell out.

In total there was either 9 or 10 rams in total. I would of just showed a whole bunch of gifs of the crashes like before but I was not recording at the time.
Decided on this sort of thing running along the top of the hull (or at least the arms). Not sure whether to go with diagonal or straight windows; or to make it 1 block higher and have the same windows as the bridge.
The corners of the arms have more space, and thus will have larger structures there; probably acting as missile hardpoints.

Here's hoping the devs are serious about optimisation.
With the cockpit, afaik the entire diagonal front face needs to be exposed to space.

New blog post
We plan to keep making frequent updates for small improvements – every week or two. Larger updates will come less frequently, please be patient.
After all that has happened in the last week, we are now 100% sure that the idea of Space Engineers is good, viable and has high potential. We are going to expand our team – just a little, we still want a small and effective team – a sandbox game such as Space Engineers requires this type of development.

In future we plan to launch a voting system for ideas.
this is fucking great, vote when it will be possible, people!
Game is using 1gig of ram, cannot add blocks.
What the fuck are you talking about I have like 6 gigs free use some more.
