First thing I thought when I saw it. Sure enough, it works: [thumb]http://i.imgur.com/eow25cj.jpg[/thumb]
So basically you accelerate, release torp and veer off? Neat, sorta like WWII-era low alt bombing.
with this new functionality, I think I'd step away from using ships for ramming, but for boarding instead. so exciting, dock on the hull of a large ship and drill your way in unnoticed.

Oh you silly people and your ram attacks. Stealth is where it's at, when you get to the blind spot of a big ship in your small one and use the tools to break through. Yes, the tools aren't enabled yet but neither is multiplayer so you have nobody to board.
i told you all but did you listen?!
[t]http://www.theforce.net/swtc/Pix/dvd/ep5/avenger3.jpg[/t] hehehe
How the engineers designed that ship with virtually zero windows completely escapes me. How they managed to get there in the first place also escapes me.
So basically you accelerate, release torp and veer off? Neat, sorta like WWII-era low alt bombing.
Exactly. It's a bit hard to aim, but the feel of using it is great. Only problem is, you better veer off fast, because being hard to aim means the target is going to be pretty close to you (especially if going at 50m/s+).
How the engineers designed that ship with virtually zero windows completely escapes me. How they managed to get there in the first place also escapes me.
Windows on a warship is an incredible retarded thing to have. Along with bridges perched on the top.
Spacecraft have no need of windows or portholes, for much the same reason as a submarine. (No, the Seaview doesn't count. Strictly science fiction. There are no panoramic picture windows on a Trident submarine). Windows represent structural weakness, and there really isn't much to see in any event. Unless the spacecraft is orbiting a planet or docking with another ship, the only thing visible is the depths of space and the eye-searing sun. And unlike submarines, windows on a spacecraft also let in deadly radiation. Star Trek, Star Wars, and Battlestar Galactica to the contrary, space battles will NOT be fought at a range of a few feet. Directed energy weapons will force ranges such that the enemy ships will only be visible through a telescope. Watching a space battle through a port hole, you will either see nothing because the enemy ships are too far away, or you will see nothing because a reflected laser beam or nuclear explosion has permanently robbed you of your eyesight. The navigation room might have an astrodome for emergency navigation. But for the most part windows will be omitted in favor of radar, telescopic TV cameras, and similar sensors.
This annoys me a bit. [thumb]http://cloud-3.steampowered.com/ugc/504695223140416343/6C21B3A32DA91FC4961F334430EA1F13172C586F/[/thumb] I've tried turning the light on/off and replacing the blocks, but it doesnt seem to register properly.
Windows on a warship is an incredible retarded thing to have. Along with bridges perched on the top.
Pretty certain the whole point of the Galactic Empire and its ships was its totalitarian form of style-over-substance and their overconfidence in abilities. Which probably explains the big sticky-outy-bit that's really easy to see for any attacking starfighters; the designers probably thought it would just be for the captains and officers to watch the carnage unfold before their inevitable victory. They didn't even fully integrate the bridge on the fucking Executor, and the whole point of that was that it looked like a big, flat dagger.
I gave the "torpedo" thing a try. [thumb]http://cloud-2.steampowered.com/ugc/504695223141955102/3924ABFAF9FEA1B464E367F52BDE9C8346D2BE6F/[/thumb] It's hard to aim when the projectile is about half as heavy as the vessel launching it, so I didn't have time to veer off, much less reverse thrust enough. made an industrial/trading ship with the new landing legs! [t]http://i.imgur.com/kS2XAnj.jpg[/t][t]http://i.imgur.com/vMXX1vy.jpg[/t] [t]http://i.imgur.com/YsHBXQi.jpg[/t][t]http://i.imgur.com/tGF7HeT.jpg[/t] [t]http://i.imgur.com/kthu9B1.jpg[/t] works like you'd expect it to work, awesome to use
[sp]The Star Destroyer releases a cloud of waste/trash, the Millennium Falcon flies through it to hide it from detection then clamps itself to the Star Destroyer, it's proximity to the ship hiding it.[/sp]
Also, the fact that, in that picture, it's literally sitting just below one of the two sensor domes, shielded by the paneling on the bridge.
I have an idea for the landing gears Have a large ship that has one section with a few things on the side that essentially function as cannons that shoot long thin one block arms from the ship but they are stopped before they completely detach from the ship, at the end of the arms are the landing gears, and on the arms are thrusters that bring them back to the ship. Basically would function as extending arms that latch onto a ship and pull it back to your own ship
The Imperial Navy has arrived.
that thing is so pleasing to look at that i just might turn into a Slaaneshi heretic
[sp]The Star Destroyer releases a cloud of waste/trash, the Millennium Falcon flies through it to hide it from detection then clamps itself to the Star Destroyer, it's proximity to the ship hiding it.[/sp]
no. the Falcon charges head long at the Destroyer's bridge, then probably (we don't get to see it) pulls an insane braking/turning maneuver that i have no doubt the ship and/or Solo would be capable of and then clamps itself to the bridge to hide its signature. the trash cloud thing happens when they get off the thing
What happens if you try to fly a fighter (attached with landing gear) out of a moving ship? Wouldn't you smash into the side/back wall before you leave the ship?
Seems like objects inherit velocity when you let go of them or they let go of you. There's definitely a problem with the newly-detached ship trying to slow itself down inside the hangar, though. We could certainly use an FLCS Manual mode from Starshatter.
The landing gear pleases me greatly!
What happens if you try to fly a fighter (attached with landing gear) out of a moving ship?
I'll test this but i think so long as you turn off inertia dampeners you should be fine. UNLESS the ship accelerates.
I'll test this but i think so long as you turn off inertia dampeners you should be fine. UNLESS the ship accelerates.
well there's no workaround for that, except enabling gravity for ships
[thumb]http://i.imgur.com/T7mBWgk.png[/thumb] [thumb]http://i.imgur.com/6tuC2CL.jpg[/thumb] best ship ever
the future of survival MP "you aint getting away u shit"

So I tested out the new landing gear and made teeny tiny cargo hauler [t]http://filesmelt.com/dl/mule1.jpg[/t] It's so adorable! :3 Real fun to zip around in. Everyone builds their enormous warships, but I wanna play a miner or a space trucker :v: Maybe I could build a space towtruck.
Kamikaze spaceships?

It's been a good decade since I last watched star wars. Thanks for the refresher.

Guys. I just had the greatest clamp-using idea ever. I'll give you a hint as to what it is:
