until you can make this, this game is incomplete
clamping landing gear, eh? let's test something. yep. unfortunately no amount of engines or gyros seem able to keep the parent ship stable & stationary while the payload has it's engine firing, so the engine is just cosmetic for now. once i can figure out a way to make having the engine firing be viable, the impact damage will be far greater, but the only way i can really think of doing it simply is by having the torpedo in the centre of the ship, which would make manoeuvring after launch a bit hazardous until the torpedo clears the tube :v:

That might fix your stability problem.
Soon we'll have remote control for ships via the console. Then you will truly have self-propelled space torpedoes.
Slap a cockpit onto your payload and then disable the inertial dampeners on the payload. That might fix your stability problem.
already done that. the 'drag' effect created by having the payload off-centre is manageable, and you can see me manually adjusting to account for it during the run-up - the problem is that the engine of the payload being on while the parent ship is stationary causes the parent ship to just start spinning like a catherine wheel until you can board it and start countering the effect (never got this far because it's a PITA trying to get back into a ship that's doing space doughnuts).

Looks like we need to start testing different kinds of armor setups to see if one is more resistant to these kinds of attacks. Is spaced armor better than a single solid block of equivalent thickness?

Got my first ship made. http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=192787976
How?!
Looks like maybe 2 copies of the ship spawned in the same spot?
How?!
Oh god, imagine a nuke doing this to your ship when multiplayer becomes a thing.
Looks like maybe 2 copies of the ship spawned in the same spot?
The ship dupe/import tool should automatically space copies or imports, though. Could be the same origin as the thruster breaking bug which was fixed a few patches back iirc.

Right now all blocks are of the light armor category. I assume in the future we will get heavier blocks that are more resistant to impacts. Right now metal blocks are sort of like tinfoil.
Made a missile launcher. This is what it does to my heavily armored ship (punched a hole clean through, destroyed one of the main forward thrusters, and exposed one of the main reactors)
the developers add landing gear so that small ships can land on big ones, and the first thing you guys are screaming is WEAPONIZE IT i love you all
Make loads of cubes with one side full of landing gear and attach them all
How would I go about making a thruster fire constantly even after leaving the cockpit? If at all possible.

Remove the S i HTTPS. [editline]7th November 2013[/editline] It's been posted anyway.
the developers add landing gear so that small ships can land on big ones, and the first thing you guys are screaming is WEAPONIZE IT i love you all
I just love the way that because there are no weapons currently usable, we've created a whole paradigm which is basically melee in space
the developers add landing gear so that small ships can land on big ones, and the first thing you guys are screaming is WEAPONIZE IT i love you all
Welcome to the human race.
If anyone gives me a 25% off voucher i can give them portal or a key for Crysis2/medal of honour. / pathetic begging. The game would look twice as good with more lighting options (coloured lights, flickering lights, pulsating lights, spinning lights) and more engine sizes/exhaust colours. I don't think it'd be difficult to add coloured lights at least.
I really want to be able to remotely control ships, or at least have a different kind of landing gear that shares connections. that way i can put thrusters on the missile so it pulls its own weight.
So stacking interior columns actually makes for a good penetrating point?
i believe the main reason they work so well is that, upon impact they only apply pressure to one block 99% of the time, where as most other blocks are larger and would usually impact multiple blocks at once due to larger tip surface area. you could say, too much width makes penetration harder because it increases resistance~
Love the new landing gear, even if the small ones are a little big and tend to screw up my nice designs. Any word on blueprint functionality? Building fighters and shuttles one at a time is a pain.
