as for sloped armour, if it's of the same effective thickness as unsloped target, there seemed to be very little difference in damage from the unsloped target;

also, haven't got a screenshot of the aftermath of the ~new~ torpedo on the solid block, so have a video instead. :)

compared to the old one, this is easy to aim - it only took me one try for this video to hit the target, unlike the 10 or so for the original :v:
I'm at work so i cant see vids, so excuse me if it's been thought/done/debunked.
Could you make the torp a small ship with a single engine, speed it up, jump into the big ship and detach it so it propels itself?
I didn't look at this because I was afraid it would just be Minecraft in space. Then I decide to look at this thread to see what's up and I find a game about turning space ships into giant battering rams and armour piercing torpedoes.
Downloading now.

unless i can't figure out how to do it properly, engines shut off when you exit the ship sadly. :(
Thats exactly wat that video showed
I think gyoscopes are slightly bugged for larger ships.
It doesn't take much to get them to start spinning, but they never stop spinning.
this honestly looks fucking amazing
Imagine if we ever get heavy-duty railguns; a large tungsten slug going at ludicrous speed just slamming right through it, from front to back, exploding the ship almost like that.
I liked the idea someone posted on the official forums of railguns being a multi-block weapon; the longer the gun, the more powerful but the greater the energy drain and recoil.
Or simply expanding on the ad-hoc torpedos, allowing us to create blocks that accelerate whatever's on top of it in a certain direction.
the speed limit of small ships is 100m/s opposed to the 70m/s of large, right?
Ive had my small speedship going 104.7m/s

I would spacejizz if weapons had shrapnel-producing effects to them. Like, legit shrapnel as shown in that gif.
Spear a ship with a spinal-mount railgun and watch the bits fly and bounce off of stuff ohgodddd

How?!
Also I just realized that the effect moves front-to-rear, as if it were hit with a very slow, but destructive, shockwave or some sort of destructive spatial anomaly.
Just bought the game. Installing it now. Woop
where do you get magnetic gear from
i dont have them
Standard landing gear, they glow when you are close to something, you switch them on and off with a key, look in your keybindings.
Hold your horses guys
A message to everyone inquiring how this is done: It's currently unknown, however most likely to occur on the Quick Start maps, 1 & 2 where there are objects already spawned.
I have had this happen to myself, when flying the pre-made blue ship. It's almost as if the ship is colliding with something invisible. Mass seems to differ however, and the speed of the invisible object appears different as well. If I were to guess, I'd say it's a piece which broke off something that was destroyed previously, which the game has then unloaded for whatever reason, leaving it constantly drifting around space, invisible until it's too late.
tl;dr: It's invisible space junk.
(regarding that gif)
invisible space junk my butt, the devs just snuk in a cosmic horror/invisible alien ship

or that star destroyer project is so overkill that the behemoth's physics are bleeding into other peoples games even without multiplayer connection
I painted the Marianas. The blackface was totally unintentional

Also, best single ram yet. Ripped out the whole bottom floor, including cockpit, putting it into a deadspin.

This is why I built a backup cockpit into the Marianas
Solution: USE TWO TORPEDOES
or a hollow torpedo that you dock to the inside of?
the Marianas looks somewhat "orky"

Thats actually what I was originally going for, although its way too orginized to be completely orky.
Once I make the waaauuugghh version and cover the main deck in huge guns it will look much orkier.
Rather than using the magnetic gear to launch a torpedo, why not use the gears to ram a spike into an enemy ship and then separate it from your main hull? This way you can use all of your ship's thrust right to the very end.
Technically your ship is actually two ships connected by gears. I don't own the game myself, so I have no idea what would happen if you did this: would the ramming portion of the ship push through the hull/engine portion? Or would the gears prevent that from happening?
you could say, too much width makes penetration harder because it increases resistance~
Story of my life.
So... Anybody done any work with modular hull plates yet?
Because that could be interesting.
You know what would be interesting
A series of ships with a deployable command pod, that moves fast. Land the command pod on the big ship, then activate magnetic landing gear, and then that command pod drives the entire ship. When your ship is bust, exit the ship and fly off back to your fleet storage area, and get in another and go right at it, with minimal set up time.
Here is an updated pic of my ship that I was working on
[img_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/nKYaRdD.jpg[/img_thumb]
I haven't chosen a name for it yet.
oh my balls that's a snazzy design
couple of discoveries regarding kinetic penetrators;
1- it's impossible to propel a large-ship past the 70m/s cap by towing it with a small-ship.
2- tiny small-ship darts going 105m/s are a lot more deadly than giant large-ship torpedoes going 70m/s

butt-ugly ship to test with while i work out the kinks, going to rebuild it eventually and make it much smaller since this one was originally designed to carry the large-ship torpedo as it's payload - also note how small it is compared to the large-ship
[t]http://cloud-2.steampowered.com/ugc/901012705501079702/A89122F89C6D0BF7EFD7CA8FC6432CA4BDFB2EFF/[/t]
the damage there is over a 5x5 area, whereas the large-ship torpedo was over 3x3 - the hole is also consistent the whole way rather than tapering off towards the other side of the 7 block-thick plate.
it would seem that it's not the size of your weapon, but how you use it~
That's some impressive damage, and research! bring on the multiplayer! we're ready
I made a lengthy video of me walking through my ship and crashing it into stuff but I don't know if I should upload it.
