They thrashed it, after 1.2.5 i knew it was the end of the MC i knew and love It's turning into a *Terrible* RPG on us Edit: I REALLY hate the default music XS
Beta 1.8 is when it really turned south, in my opinion.
I kinda feel like Minecraft is becoming a bad mod pack.
Honestly I totally agree, Ive noticed a lot of "New" stuff in Minecraft Ive seen in earlier mods.
Beta 1.8 is when it really turned south, in my opinion.
1.8 itself wasn't the issue. i remember seeing the leak, trying it out and telling my friend about all the changes. the 1.8 update was fine, but it made us think "well this obviously isn't finished so surely there will be a lot of high-content updates soon" which mojang kind of promised too. it made everyone expect a bunch of updates with a lot of stuff without months in between releases, but instead we got what we got, which was really disappointing.
The thing that destroyed Minecraft in the long run was its popularity. Not because it wasnt my hipster-game-paradise anymore, but because it made Notch lazy, and caused him to change mindset about the game. When I started playing it, he was constantly pushing out updates, adding things that made sense in the long run, like infinite worlds, and crafting, but after it got ultra-popular, he started adding useless, broken features like villages, and he ruined the map generation for some reason I still cant understand. Also, because of the games popularity, he got praise from so many people with every change and update, and people were defending him no matter how shitty the new updates were. Without any constructive feedback the game just went downhill. On another note, what happened to the mountains that was generated up to like 200 blocks high? Such things were needed in the generation, but after the height limit was increased, we didnt see any change in the terrain generation. Did we ever get any explanation of why this happened?
Reminds me of EA. Shoots to stardom almost overnight, stays popular a long while, then peaks, plateaus, and slides downhill. It's almost a perfect match, I suppose it's the circle of life. [or consumerism]
I hope the new biomes are enough to bring me back a while longer.
I hope Jeb isn't just adding new biomes, but rather, actually changing the terrain generation to be less insipid as well.

The only thing is that it works a lot better with "modern PvP" with potions and enchantments and shit. also melons are too easy to farm survival element = gone Since now food isn't health potion; it's hunger potion
I may have joined a little later than some of you (1.5_01)(Mid-2010) , but I feel really nostalgic about the old days. It used to feel magical, and now it feels like a ruined fucking game. 1.7.2 was the best update in my opinion. 1.8 went too far with experience, potions (I think), hunger, villages, the new lighting, and ESPECIALLY the map generation. They even changed the porkchop texture! I really miss the original sounds too. Minecraft has been getting more and more saddening with each update. It was nice knowing you, Minecraft
I hope the new biomes are enough to bring me back a while longer.
1) Load up new map, see new biomes. 2) ????? The root problem, IMO, is that you still cannot interact with the environment or your creations in any meaningful way. Once the digital-Legos aspect gets old, you're left with the simple fact that your house is a hollow cube full of stuff you can't actually do anything with, your castle walls don't actually keep anything out, there is absolutely no functional difference between a desert or a taiga or a jungle, and you're alone in a world that has no point; your existence there is meaningless, and there is no metric of "success" beyond whatever simplistic - and when it boils down to it, they are all pathetically simplistic - goals you set for yourself. How long you can survive between (largely consequence-free) deaths? How many farcical structures you can build? Shit, you can't even have fun riding a roller coaster on account of the godawful camera snap.
That Minecraft will stray too far away from its original concepts and become something very different people wont like as much.
Notch once tested out giant zombies... It would of been cool if he actually did something with them. Whats the point in a 100 meter tall, four meter thick castle wall that doesn't protect anything? Singleplayer is dead, multiplayer is degrading itself with it's community. Too many "hardcore pvp towny survival servers with a creative portal plzplz donate" type servers. I don't want to recreate the hunger games all the time!

Beta 1.8 is when it really turned south, in my opinion.
This, definitely, ever since Notch passed it over to Jeb, its become a mess of useless things that were stolen from mods :l
This, definitely, ever since Notch passed it over to Jeb, its become a mess of useless things that were stolen from mods :l
I'm being honest the fucking horses idea was the stupidest shit I have ever heard to come to minecraft
Honestly the only thing I seriously dislike is the terrain generation from Beta 1.8 onward. Things like horses are pretty lame I guess but I'll put up with them, they're useful in the end and they don't ruin the general experience as much as the boring perfect-checkerboard-of-random-biomes worlds brought about by 1.8 At least the Large Biomes made them slightly more interesting. Large Biomes with the old style of map generation would probably be amazing...
I'm still mad about boats never getting changed. Come on, why does every vehicle have to be a single moving entity? Couldn't they have come up with a better method of handling that? Also, Minecraft is still simply boring as hell in singleplayer. I like to build castles and shit, but that gets old after a while. Multiplayer is all well and good, but most servers are seriously terrible beyond belief. I just miss playing SMP when it came out, and Profan's server was the only one we had. That was fun. We all just mobbed around, found a cool spot (usually the widest and flattest one we could find, since those were rare), and built up a city.
Who the fuck thought HD texture packs was a good idea? Oh, here's some blocks with fitting textures - let's just make them incredibly highdef and not look fitting at all
Why can't we choose which painting gets put up yet :<
that's not really that much of an issue, i don't mind having to break the painting until you get what you want
that's not really that much of an issue, i don't mind having to break the painting until you get what you want
It wasn't an issue until they started glitching out a few versions back. If you're like me and you have an underground house, if you break a painting there's like a 30% chance it'll glitch through the wall and end up on the grass outside. The same issue occurs with jukeboxes, although not as often.
Fuck sticky keys, I know you can change your keys but it's fucking annoying to change and it should not be the default key bind.
oi I hate when fake block pickups appear I MUST PICK YOU UP GODDAMNIT.
Along with the mod API, I wish they'd hurry and switch out the TCP/IP protocols they use with UDP. Minecraft spams packets like fuck, which UDP is better suited for.
You know, after trying Drakotha's server for a while, I really wish Notch had made zombies more interesting. Drakotha's zombies slowly tunnel after you, and while their pathfinding for digging is pretty fucking retarded (they dig straight at you, rather than through the weakest possible spot, and sometimes they wont even dig down together), it's massively improved over normal vanilla zombies, where you can just dig a tiny hole in the ground, put a single block down to stop them, and then giggle at how stupid they are. Fuck, why did Notch have to make every fucking NPC, even the bosses, just stupid mobs that follow you and shoot things/punch you to death? It's so incredibly boring to fight vanilla mobs, it's not even funny.
You can pretty much take every Minecraft mob on without a sword. Seriously. It's basically like the Pyro Flamethrower method except easier.
Fuck sticky keys, I know you can change your keys but it's fucking annoying to change and it should not be the default key bind.
Just disable sticky keys, that's not a fault of minecraft. (Or just change it to another key if that's too hard)
Playing FTB makes me really wish mojang would just make a fucking modding API already. Either that, or they should just stop releasing new versions of the game. Just call it finished and turn it over to the community. Given the overall quality of the last several updates, I would not give half a shit if they just completely stopped updating vanilla Minecraft. It really feels like any given mod developer for FTB is working harder than the people at Mojang, but every few months Mojang says "LOL guess what guys, we added horses, GET WITH THE TIMES, MODDERS" so everyone who has ever made any mod for the game is now obligated to update it to work with the new version of vanilla, or their mod gets left by the wayside, only compatible with an obsolete version.
the fact that this http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/1707097-cubic-chunks-reduced-lag-infinite-height-and-more-over-one-thousand-supporters-1700updated-811-now-with-video-of-pre-alpha-cubic-chunks/ is not all ready in the game the fact that its not coming in the next update
Minecraft now: Jeb: Guys, we just put (insert mod) as official content in Minecraft. Go home folks, see you next year for more official mods!
