My main complaint is that Minecraft simply does not have the same spirit that it had three years ago. In my book, Beta 1.7.3 was the peak of Minecraft, and after that, things steadily went downhill, as Notch and Jeb began to run dry on ideas and elected to implement the stupidest of ideas. Back then, things were much simpler and entertaining. Servers with anything more than the simplest mods were unheard of, as the regular game was already jam-packed with amazing new features that came every new update. Journeying out into the dark was anything short of suicide, bread was the staple food of every player, and creepers legitimately gave players a heart attack. The Nether was a place of cooked pork, dangerous lava, and constantly eroding road networks. Every monster was a threat, as health didn't regenerate and food took up valuable inventory space. A single diamond was worth the risk of death, and full diamond armor was a sign of fabulous wealth beyond comprehension. Every world generated was a unique gem that acquired its own personality, with amazing new landscapes just beyond the horizon. Nowadays, Minecraft is just not the same. Servers need huge modpacks to bring in the slightest interest, as vanilla servers are abandoned within weeks. The excitement and mystery of a new update is crushed by weekly snapshots that fail to impress. The monsters and perils of the night are rendered harmless, as health regenerates fairly quickly with stacks of melons at hand. Once plundered of its measly treasures, the Nether becomes useless, save for a faster way to travel. Diamonds become the norm rather than the exception, as Fortune enchantments quadruples the amount of materials harvested from each vein. Finally, every world created is a stale, boring plain that never satisfies the urge to explore and find new lands. I think one of the problems from this is the fact that Notch and Jeb adds things that no one asked for. The End, the Enderdragon, and the Endermen are completely stupid ideas that have no place in Minecraft. Food like melons, chicken, beef, potatoes, and carrots are pointless on the grand scheme of things. Enchantments, potions, and beacons are just too much effort to really be useful and feel too magical to fit in the game. There is just too much fluff as a whole. Bats? Cats? Withers? Wither Skeletons? It all just points to a lack of originality. I've played Minecraft on and on since Beta 1.4_01, and I've had a hell of a time. The Cheshirean Empire, 2b2t, the Open Trail, Goose's Faction Server... It's all just memories now, and I think if I start playing again, it'll probably be on a regular, singleplayer world in Beta 1.7.3, where my fondest memories are.
I remember being at DreamHack 2011. Jeb was there talking about Minecraft etc. and people kept asking about Dragons.
*rant*
So much this. Does anyone remember the old Glacier world seed? You spawn and BAM. Floating island with a waterfall and huge ass mountains all around. It was beautiful and i loved playing on it but now it's just gone due to the new, bland worldgen. I'm so tired of seeing jungle biomes. Seriously, if i turn on Large Biomes, they never end. I miss the old Minecraft.
I still get floating islands every once in a rare while, though they're usually just a three or four blocks big. And within two or three blocks from the top of a mountain.

I had an interesting thought: What if someone put together a 1.7.3 server and posted it to Facepunch? It would be neat to enjoy a vanilla server set in the golden days of Minecraft. [editline]25th March 2013[/editline] I'd do it, but I don't have any money at hand to rent or build one myself.
Fucking skeletons. They fire quick, have heavy push-back and hit hard.
Fucking skeletons. They fire quick, have heavy push-back and hit hard.
Fucking op son of a bitches, they need to be nerfed
Really, what Minecraft needs now more than ever is more blocks, more materials for building, and new contraptions that allow for innovative construction. It's always been about the building, and that's what they need to focus on now, not monsters and adventuring.
The "Adventure Update" really took minecraft on a turn for the worse
I wish they'd stop putting "Removed Herobrine" in the changelog. That got so fucking old after the first few times. People still assume he was a real thing in the game, and some retarded new members of the MC forums still make threads saying "omg i saw him!!"
I can sum it up in two words: Mod API. (Okay so it's technically four, so sue me)

By 1.7.3 they had still added a ton of shit that nobody wanted.
I think we should go further back. Maybe to 1.2 or something. By 1.7.3 they had still added a ton of shit that nobody wanted.
I kinda miss finite maps. And infinite water. Maybe I'm being nostalgic but whatever.
The Nether, A hellish other dimension, full of all kinds of evils and it's been getting better since the update that added blazes and magma slimes. Then... We get to multiplayer, The nether in multiplayer servers get ruined by people making shit like sealed safety corridors between portals, massive mines of nether brick, grinders for blazes, pillars or windows for becoming perfectly safe from pigmen and all around just ruining what the nether is supposed to be. The Ender, a massive fucking waste of an already shit idea. In multiplayer servers it becomes little more than the exit portal and a few bridges of scaffolding used to mine the end stone.
I do however think the redstone update took a step in the right direction. It didn't add stupid gimmicks. It added elements wich can be used in so many different ways, just like the piston. And obviously, survival needs to be more dangerous. I suggest slower growing for plants and trees. it would force you to scavenge further away from your base, and actually put effort into making big farms to satisfy your needs.
I have always considered 1.7.3 the best version of Minecraft. If someone is going to make a server for it, I'm in!
Another rant about multiplayer on minecraft, players who make shit that serves no purpose and looks retarded just so that can make a few words or a little picture on the map. Decorative items, I'm okay with, but stuff like giant flat planes of wool floating in the air or in the ocean drive me to insanity. Area protections in multiplayer, being randomly teleported away or just being unable to break or place blocks in your house because of a neighbours anti-grief area extending many blocks away from their house. Lockette or whatever the name of that stupid plugin is also pisses me off, I don't mind chest locking plugins, but lockette pisses me off in every way imaginable, I hate seeing signs fucking everywhere.

You just had to hide your chest really well. Griefing wasn't allowed, obviously, neither was xray and people had their shit protected just fine. Only idiots who didn't hide their shit well got their items stolen, and they deserved it.

Imo the best protection plugin is and always has been LWC.
Oh yeah I remember LWC, that shit owned. Come to think of it, I really started to miss my old server. Maybe I can reboot it on beta 1.7.3, I'll see if I can.
Maybe? Well if you do, I can poop you some 1.7.3 .jars. I have the 1.7.3 server, 1.7.3 clean and 1.7.3 with some old weird shaders. Tell me if you guys want them.
Might make good use of them, upload please!
In my opinion, Minecraft was at it's best in 1.7.3
Skeletons have aimbot
Might make good use of them, upload please!
1.7.3 server .jar 1.7.3 .jar, i think this is the pure vanilla version remember, this has 1. old AI (Woo creepers will fall into holes, not avoid them) 2. Found this on my hard drive: Bukkit 1.7.3 I doubt that it would be easy finding compatible plugins for it though.
mojang you doubled the world height where are my giant mountains [editline]26th March 2013[/editline] [editline]26th March 2013[/editline] also mojang why did you finally patch in hd texture pack support but i require optifine to run an hd texturepack i mean i can max out crysis but god forbid i have a 128x texture pack installed and the fact that a mod can just fix it means that you're fucking up big time. [editline]26th March 2013[/editline]
1.7.3 server .jar 1.7.3 .jar, i think this is the pure vanilla version remember, this has 1. old AI (Woo creepers will fall into holes, not avoid them) 2. [editline]26th March 2013[/editline] actually mojang im not gonna ask you to add in any features because you clearly dont know how to develop a game so just give us the mod api that is 2 years coming and the guys at ftb will fix the game for you does that sound like a fair deal
Alright, maybe I'll be able to afford a server which I can install 1.7.3 on, but would anyone be interested to play on it? (to justify the money paid on said server)

Can I be the richest person in that server? (I found the 1.7.3 xray, no idea why I have it though)
