The textures:
(Painterly)
(Dead man's land a.k.a default)
Look at all the lively, contrasting colors on the first screenshot, and compare them to the lifeless, unsaturated colors in the second. I don't want to sound like I'm advertising, but the default texture pack is kinda depressing.
One thing about Painterly is that at times it can be too dark (you can barely differentiate dirt from grass on the hills in your screenshot), or too saturated, or a plethora of other small issues. I personally disliked all the dirt choices back when I was making packs. The cracked ones never read well and had too much contrast within the texture, one of the others was plain too dark, and the last was way too red.
All in all, Painterly ended up being too much visual noise for me.
Going in one portal will take you to somewhere in the Nether. Going back in the same portal will take you to someone else's portal kilometers away.
I once reactivated a portal to get a friend out of the nether. A couple minutes later, he wrote in the chat: "Hey Mani actually made a new portal"
I had no idea what he meant, as it seemed to be in the same place. However, just to check I went back into the nether to see what he meant, and what did I find?

Yes, I made a new portal. 1 block away from the previous one.
Oh, portals, you never cease to surprise me.

Yes, sometimes stuff can be too dark and too saturated, the dirt being a prime example. But with all the foliage colors, grass heights and stark contrast between some textures, it's really not that bad depending on your choice.
I do hate the fact the Rhodox seems to like using noise. A lot.
Yeah, In PVP servers it can be a nightmare thats why its best to shutdown your portal when loggin off.
Actual, from what dinnerbone said at minecon he fixed alot of the lighting errors and things like that just the game became harder to use on older computers.
Yea I know, the new lighting engine was pretty rad. Could have just made a option for it probably like fast and smooth lighting though.

Also, 2,000th post.
minecraft was better before infinite worlds.
i just hate how minecraft is boring. i've survived, i've made fortresses, i've made mob grinders, i've made hidden redstone mechanisms, i've made ships, i've made mazes, i've made adventures, i've made mines, i've made everything that i can ever make, and now there's nothing left. sure, i could go and kill the enderdragon, or i could make a huge creation, but i don't have the patience anymore. minecraft has lost the charm it used to have back in the older versions.

i sometimes like to watch the first episodes of shadow of israphel, before it got all shit and rp-y. i liked watching people building and exploring minecraft in it's old, primitive state, before they cluttered it with all of this new unnecessary stuff.
lol ok rate me dumb because i mention yogscast
I'd join a 1.7 server. I started playing just a few months after the game was made public; only 2 animals, 4 mobs, no weapons or crafting. Those were fun times. It'd also be interesting to play on a server running on a version as early as possible, like it was on the day of SMP release. I just want to see the light-green color of grass and old terrain generation again, maybe experience the old boat and fire bugs too. Is the .jar file still floating around?
no god damn chairs
no god damn chairs
I agree, more furniture would be awesome. I understand that you can use stairs and signs to make chairs and tables and such, but wouldn't it be awesome to be able to right click on a chair block and sit on it? I mean, we already have beds, and they're basically useless on SMP besides spawnpoints when you have more than a couple players.
I hate the fact that Minecraft is flooded with skids. I also hate that skids want to be 'u mad bro!!!! troll face' by griefing servers and ruining everything else for everybody else. Especially with the overuse of Troll Face.

next update for xbox is the End :l
fuck that. The End is a tedious and hard as hell fight with the enderdragon and they're hyping this shit out like its the best update ever.
At least we get spawn eggs...I think.
Skeletons have aimbot
And they still got all those damn buffs.

alright guys you can readd the dynamic potion system from 1.9pre2 any time now
seriously the old prerelease system worked so well and it was neat trying out new recipes to see what you got and jeb just went "lol nah fuck it let's make this as boring as possible".

come the fuck on look at this, look at all the shit you could make
why the fuck
I think potions and enchantments were the worst feature to appear in Minecraft. No one ever asked for them, yet they were fully implemented because it's clearly, absolutely the most important thing ever. Not to mention the magic aspect of them doesn't fit too well in the MC universe, imo.
Another thing I sort of dislike is the lack of biome diversity. There's a lot of ideas for various new landscape types, but no, obviosly seeing grass, trees, sand and snow occasionally will never get boring!
I think the potions and enchantments are good, but they should probably be implemented better in survival. But they add a lot of possibilities for custom gamemodes and adventure maps.
I agree with the lack of biome diversity. Right now most of the biomes are just varying amounts of grass trees and hills, with snow on or off. The only biomes that have unique features are mushroom islands, jungles, swamps, and deserts.
Seriously why in the world do Mushroom islands NEED to be sorrounded by ocean biomes?
Seriously why in the world do Mushroom islands NEED to be sorrounded by ocean biomes?
Contain the mycelium.
Contain the mycelium.
Not really. I've seen Antvenom use a mod to remove ocean biomes entirely from the terrain generation, and MushroomIslandShore biomes actually generate bodies of water big enough to prevent any other biome from making contact with it.
I know they prevent hostile mob spawning completely, and are home to the single best mod in the game, but I just wish they were easier to find.
I can never get the fucking rail cars to work as I want them to. I'll power up the furnace car and hop in the front, but then the cars detach from each other. On top of that, sprinting is faster than the rail cars.
I think what Minecraft needs is to increase the difficulty, make moving out of your comfort zone necessary, and make natural disasters. Make floods, blizzards, Tsunamis, hurricanes, tornadoes, forest fires, whatever. I think natural disasters could make it so you have to focus more on survival again and you also have the fear of losing everything. I also think that Notch should look at Terraria for inspiration. I love the fact that there are tons of caves and Hell below that. The world is also incredibly deep allowing for some pretty amazing structures. Terraria also has a fantastic set of bosses and some decent enemies. If we could take the best of both games and mix them together, I think we'd have something pretty amazing.
Seriously why in the world do Mushroom islands NEED to be sorrounded by ocean biomes?
because they're islands
Small things that haven't been fixed would be nice.
Where is the ability to link minecarts together? The furnace minecart is useless ever since we got powered rails.
Why do 3 blocks create 6 slabs, but 6 blocks create 4 stairs? The ratio is completely illogical.
FIX THE TERRAIN GEN

I also hate how intensive minecraft is on some computers when it doesn't look that way.
My all-time favorite biome is the mountains, and now they've turned them to crap. And theres jungles EVERYWHERE! I just want some plains, mountains, or tundra, or even a desert for gods sake. I remember back in 1.8, the mountains weren't completely destroyed. I still had fun exploring new worlds just to see what I could find- now its all too bland, and I keep bumping into useless jungles.

Fuck everything we need new building blocks and shit. I've said it before, more construction equipment and materials is just what the game needs more of.
My problem with minecraft is that it just can't stay fun forever.
I've been playing since alpha, and let me tell you, my jaw hit the floor so hard it shattered when I first started MC. It was motherfucking magical. The world felt mystical, mysterious and dangerous, but also full of potential and surprises. For the longest time, MC was just like that. My fondest memories are of 1.2.2 alhpa, where the infite, snowy worlds where so peaceful and the monsters so terrifying, and I kept building my house into the side of huge mountains because I thought it was the coolest thing ever. Good times.
Minecraft has become uncharming. It's become boring. The fluff and useless shit they keep adding isn't helping, and I honestly can't stand vanilla minecraft at all. And even if I went back to older versions, I still wouldn't be having much fun because I'm just burned out.
Minecraft is the first game I've ever seen that despite having technically infinite replay value, eventually it just stops being fun. If there's a game I'd love to wipe my memory of so I could experience it again, it would be Minecraft.
My earlier minecraft days will always have a special place in my heart. It was a time of wonder and of magic, a time where you barricaded your homes and cowered in a 2x1 hole because god knows what monstrosities lurk outside. A time where you could build rollercoasters in massive cave systems without needing to do anything to the cave. A time where it felt real, instead of like zelda. A time where creepers instilled real fear. A time when you could look over the hills, and see something more beutiful than anything in Crysis or Far cry or any other scripted game, something so amazing it could almost compete with real life. An infinite world that could contain anything, a world that is your own. A world that is unique to you, a world that nobody else will ever get to explore.
It was a time that I loved. And It was a time that I will cherish for the rest of my days. Thank you minecraft, for these memories. Sadly, I'm all burned out.

I really don't understand why updates are so slow. Like, literally. I tried to learn Java once, and made a block with a certain function. For a completely newbie it takes an hour if you're really careful. I just don't understand, Java has it's flaws and many of them, but it definitely isn't hard. They should be shitting content every week, or at least every few weeks with better quality.
The complete asskissing over at the MC Forums.
