Modding API not being release in February.
Forgive me for asking but what does the API actually do?
Ambient sounds would be a great addition. When there's no music playing, it's often unnervingly quiet. There are some in the game's files, but they're unused.
I've been talking about that since 2011. I'm not big into java coding, but I kept saying that it can't be hard to select an area, check the biome (beach, forest, ocean, mountain, etc), cross-check that with the time of day, then play a looping sound based on just those two factors. Apparently it was that hard. Something about the sound system integrated into Minecraft that allows sounds to only come from independent entities and not generalized areas. I got confused and played a song in a different tab while they were talking so I didn't catch most of it. [editline]edited[/editline] It should be possible, though. I remember when Notch first put in the ambient cave sounds (scared everyone fucking shitless by the way), and that seems to work the same way. It checks for darkness, checks the volume of the darkness, and if it checks out with the quota it plays a sound.
Matmos
Holy fucking christ, that came out around the same time I started asking my friends about minecraft ambiance. They all said it was impossible. I've never even heard of that mod before now.

I've never even heard of that mod before now.
It's one of my favorite mods. My only gripe with it is the wind sounds are deafening during rain/thunder storms, but that's a problem with the sound choices (source engine sounds). Other than that, it adds so much immersion it's not even funny. I'm reminded of that old video C418 did with the enviroment sound test for minecraft. I was like "why is this still not in the game yet".
IMO Minecraft is overrated. Not to say it's a bad game, it's just I've seen better. It's too popular for it's own good.
IMO Minecraft is overrated. Not to say it's a bad game, it's just I've seen better. It's too popular for it's own good.
How can it be too poplar? As long everyone is enjoying the game i don't see a problem with it and under what term do you describe 'Overrated'? I don't hear people praising its the best game of all time, creative and unique yes but never heard it from someone that said its perfect.

i wish there was a nother kind of shape??
Just a personal thought, but I think that there are 3 main sects of Minecraft-ers right now: 1. The Classic, stick-to-building 2. The "Adventure" type, the guys who like Terraria 3. Tekkit Fanboys I think that it would be cool to split Minecraft into different games to fit what each type of Minecraft-er likes. If you try and intergrate all of this into one, I think the game becomes overcomplicated, tedious and a little annoying at times.
Simply if you like adventuring Terraria is better on almost all levels. And tekkit is the only thing that makes minecraft bearable anymore.
The reason I got into Minecraft was because of the building. I thought the whole purpose of the game was to build cool things while having little survival aspects to make it a bit more challenging and thus more rewarding. But then they just starting cramming things in that made the game seem more focused on killing and adventuring.
Factions has to be the worst mod in Minecraft. PvP back in Alpha was very straight forward, you build a base and hope to stand till the next day against people in the opposing area. Then comes along this new mod called "factions" which has systems such as "anti-grief" and "claiming" which completely defeats the purpose of Player Vs Player. What was once a challenge of standing the tests of time, and hoping your buildings(or towns) stood as a symbol of your reign in the server was defeated by super-powerful factions being able to claim 50x50 block areas, and basically making it nigh-impossible to destroy you, even with TNT cannons. That's another think which irks me a great deal with Minecraft. With all the things like Fireworks, Pistons, and all that... Why can't we have a simple mortar or mysorean rocket? Wouldn't do much damage, but it would allow for combat to be at-least somewhat entertaining.
I don't have any huge complaints but I would like more animals in the official game and I would like it on Steam just to log my hours out of curiosity (but Mojang already said they don't ever want it on Steam, don't 100% remember the reasoning but I respected their decision) I'm not too fussed but the hunger bar being optional somehow would be nice though.

Main Point: Placing blocks and building things takes god damned forever. There needs to be a better way. In Creative, or games where you have factories you are still limited to painfully right-clicking on the face you want to build out from one by one. The thing you are building might take several thousand right-clicks to build, and then there's probably scaffolding and stairs you need to make to climb all over it. The Mercurial Eye of Equivalent Exchange was a fantastic item, but it's barely in use on servers now and it was an item from a mod anyway. Alternatively there is the simple, slow and clunky Buildcraft fillers and some other ways like turtles and frames. Finally there is Worldedit, but that's overkill and can't really be safely given to players on servers and it doesn't use your inventory. There are probably other great mods too, but it's all irrelevant to the point at hand. Building a tall tower? For the next hour+ you are going to be looking down and repeatedly jumping and right clicking. There needs to be a faster, intuitive and precise way built into Minecraft because for a game about placing blocks, it sure is slow and ineffectual to do it. Let us click and drag out a line, square, rectangular prism... just... something! anything! Secondary Point
... 3. Tekkit Fanboys
Tekkit? You mean feed the beast

See this? Not the fact that they are mentioning it specifically (they should still feel bad for it though), but that it exists to be mentioned; the bloody dumb division and 'competitiveness' between the communities of FTB and Technic/Technic Platform packs when it's essentially the same shit with a different name. You are a fan of 'highly modded Minecraft, making factories and adventuring and shit' not a fan of the fat, sweaty neckbeard that gives it to you. You like the same shit! Realize it!

If Jeb reads it it's good. You won't find that kind of critic on the Minecraft forums.
Terraria was kind of a competitor for a while, and Starbound seems to be promising, but since Minecraft was the 'first' to start this 'genre', many people will be massive faggots and declare the new games to be ripoffs of Minecraft.
There once was a game before Minecraft that came out called Infiniminer. It was rad.
