Heck, it has even gotten a Kirby clone (Kirby's Avalanche, made by Compile when they owned the Puyo Puyo IP before it ended up in Sega's hands and based on Super Puyo Puyo) and a Sonic reskinning (Doctor Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine, which even retains a lot of Puyo Puyo 2's music such as the Vs theme being the Theme of Satan).

Oh, I thought she was the mascot of just one game, not the franchise. That makes more sense.

Arle Nadja (the girl) however is definitely the most popular and has been a major protagonist in many of it's games since 1991. If Sega got a second rep, it'd honestly be a close match between Arle and Jack Frost [sp]& Knuckles[/sp].

Which was downgraded from being Dedede's side-b to being an ennemy in Smash Run. I wouldn't rule him out because hey it's Smash nobody fuckin knows what's going on but I fail to see the hype behind the character. He's as relevant as Waluigi, with even less background and character. From here on, anything can happen. Inklings are obiviously a shoe-in as well, but then it gets real weird with Snake (not happening), Ice Climbers (still not happening), Geno (nope) and Paper Mario. It would be really interesting to have Paper Mario as a fighter as he has the potential of being completely unique and different from Mario/Dr.Mario, but that would make for a FIFTH bro and a tenth character in the Mario series, which is ridiculous. It's pretty weird that Layton or Phoenix Wright didn't rank high. I thought they were very popular in Japan.

Well, he was playable in Return to Dream Land, where he had his own moveset, and his character debuted in The Crystal Shards back in 2000... So yeah, he is similar to Toad. Toad may have a chance with Captain Toad growing (and Captain Toad seems to be THE Toad), even if Rosalina became playable in the latest multi-character platformer. Waluigi has an interesting characterization and body shape, and is pretty much wasted potential if relegated to the same role as Daisy. Again, we need Wario and Waluigi in a Mario and Luigi RPG, and him appearing in Wario games. Guy is more liked or known than most of the Wario Ware cast anyway.

What I'm curious about is why Cloud's on the list- he's a Sony character if anything. Wouldn't a generic Black Mage fit the bill better? Or at the very least, the likes of Terra if they want a specific character?

His voice actor's idea for a puzzle game where you cheat to win is fantastic, seriously. Imagine something like a typical Mario platformer level where you gotta get to the other side to reach some treasure or something, but Waluigi can't jump over a gap/is scared of the goombas/is too lazy to get across himself. So you get a souvenir photo of Peach, draw some koopas into it, and find Mario to convince him that she's been kidnapped again and is right over there across that obstacle so he'll clear it for you. I'm terrible at coming up with puzzles so that's an awful example, but you get the idea.

I always thought the best Wario and Waluigi game would be similar to New Super Mario Bros., only instead of co-op, you're trying to dick each other over and get more loot. Like, you know how people always fight for the Crown in 3D World? That, but an entire game. Waluigi has a lot of potential as far as Mario characters go, shame Nintendo'll never use him outside of spin-offs.

So what you're saying is you want a semi-PvP co-op platformer

Now I'm imagining a Wario and luigi themed Transformice.

If Waluigi were to get his own role in a platformer, I'd want to see him have something akin to Plague Knight. Wild difficult-to-control mobility, chaotic attacks. Wario already has the brute-force platformer down pat. While both Mario and Luigi emphasize the importance on nimble agility and precision. Waluigi can't mirror Wario because Wario is an extreme of Mario's strength and stability. It'd follow that Waluigi would be an extreme of Luigi's slippery controls and superb jumping.
