A map that changes every time you play it? Banned.
It'd be a real shame if the Mario Paint Medley that is currently on Miiverse wasn't migrated to the Super Mario Maker stage.
It's probably going to get the remixes from Mario Maker
what a strange way to have the dlc stages

Probably going to get another stage on the 30th based on the formatting.

nintendo's just fucking with the OCD players now
it seems like it could be a fun stage to play on that isn't full of bullshit stage hazards, plus the theme and gimmick are cool
i'm digging it
I really do hope that this update is larger than just that map.

We can probably expect another balance patch to go along with the new stage, and possibly another stage to fill that suspicious empty space. After that, it's all wild speculation.
What if we also get Wolf around the same time (and another stage, going off that stage select screen above)? That would be a fantastic content update!

Changing every time isn't such a huge deal provided that the changes aren't super intrusive. Random isn't the defining factor in what gets banned or not, it's all down in how much it screws with gameplay.
What I'd like to see though is an additional slider similar to the music that lets you tone down or crank up the wildness of the generation. So if you want a super crazy hazard-ridden stage you can, or you can have a more-conservative layout.
I really hope that the next SSB cuts down on stage hazards. The lineup in 4 is kind of awful in how most of the stages can't hold still and are littered with obnoxious stage hazards.
This will be the first time Super Mario Bros 3 is represented as a stage
And it still had to share it with all the others :saddowns:

Norfair should be the most intrusive stage hazards should get (with a few exceptions for special gimmicks ala Mario Bros or WarioWare, but these shouldn't be the norm). It really wouldn't be hard to even make a competitive stage with hazards if they made them fair (i.e. Halberd, Norfair was also legal in Brawl until people realized that the platforms being grabbable meant you could stay invincible forever)
I don't mind stage hazards if they can be played around, but stuff like the Yellow Devil, Ridley, insta-kill traps (like Port Town's floor randomly deciding you should be hit downward to your doom instead of being bounced up) or turbo autoscrolls are just unpleasant for pretty much everyone.
It's a real shame, too. The problem with Brawl's stages wasn't so much the hazards (except Port Town and Pictochat which were just designed obnoxiously for some transformations) as it was the stage design being clunky and facilitating circle camping. Smash 4's stages are now designed fine (with a few exceptions like Palutena's Temple and Great Cave Offensive) but it's the hazards killing the stages.

I think asking for every Mario game to have a stage is a bit unrealistic.

Considering that Mario Kart managed to get 3 different stages, it's abit abusrd that the Mario game with the highest general favorability by the Mario fanbase (only rivaled by SMW, though that is close) does not have a stage yet.
Granted, we also inexplicably still don't have a proper Bowser's Castle map yet in an official Smash game.
can we appreciate the fact that this didn't leak
I'm legit surprised about this. Either the leakers are slacking off or Nintendo has gotten better at hiding things :v:
That's a cool gimmick, but it's also an eighth Mario stage. I'd like to see some new stages for other series.

Or no one cares enough to even look for hints at a new stage because only new characters are really exciting

This and Walkoffs. A large proportion of stages have walkoffs and that instantly ruins a lot of stages that, if they just had regular ledges, would be so much better.
Maybe have a 3-4 tick slider of how balanced a stage should be.
Level 1 would have no bars held. Walkoffs, scrolling, hazards, bosses, you name it.
Level 2 would tone it down, say for a stage like Temple they remove the lower part of the stage and only leave the wide expanse of the upper level, or in Gaur Plains remove Metal Face and the top ledges drop off instead of being walkoff.
Level 3 would remove all hazards and make the stage a reasonably sized platform sort of thing. Think for example Temple would become Skyloft from PM 3.5 or Pyrospehere would be the same without Ridley or the robots.
Level 4 would be straght up Omega.
You know what'd be a nifty idea? If you could save certain stage loadouts (maybe up to 3?) from playing on the SMM stage and play them later.
It could allow for "wildcard" stages to be put in play at tournaments.
Sakurai's insistence on increasingly overpowered items and increasingly intrusive and obnoxious stage hazards seem to be an attempt to close the skill gap with random elements. The problem is that those elements are bullshit so everybody hates them and nobody wants them, casual or hardcore alike.
What's wrong with walkoffs again?
What's wrong with walkoffs again?
No ledge games plus decreased visibility when offstage. People can also camp the side, throw someone, and instantly get a stock off.
I have a way of making stages in the stage builder with semi-walkoff edges. IE, you can go off the screen, but there's an angled lava wall that will bounce you back in bounds just before the very edge.
It's angled so you can still get horizontal KOs from the rest of the stage, but sheer enough of a barrier that you can't do the grabthrow into death thing. Works pretty well.

I would assume the missing stage ties in with a new character, which is why they skipped over it. I guess.
but the ballot ends two days after the 30th, i wouldn't expect anything else than two stages and balance from this patch
