Finally moved into college, everyone here plays smash and a good majority of us are equal in skill. It is great
Don't practice tech, practice tech in combat. Training the skills in isolation absolutely sucks.
IMO there are three kinds of tech if you really want to simplify it: Essential, situational, and flash
Essential is stuff you'll use every match and it's all stuff that's based on consistency, so learning on your own is feasible. Situational is what will be the most common when fighting skilled players, depending on stages, matchups, varying customs, etc, so you need another person to practice it. Flash is exactly what you think it is, and while it's impractical it's always satisfying when it works.
You can hone the first and sometimes third by yourself against AI, but not the second.
I've been playing for years and I still don't know what techs are.

techniques
Has anyone even watched that webm? I know it isn't flashy techs and shit, that happened during the match. I posted the numbers, and the numbers don't lie.

you can learn it on your own, but knowing just what a tech is, or how to do it isn't much. anyone can load up training mode or a match against an AI and dashdance all around and l-cancel moves in place, but learning how to actually use it and apply it requires actually playing with another human.
So my dorm is having a Smash 4 tournament next week, and I feel like I need to practice. Unfortunately, I really don't have any way to do that. My Wii U is at home and even though I'll be going there this weekend, none of my friends are around to train against. I can either fight against the AI (which this page has established is mostly useless), or try to play online and hate my life while doing so.
Maybe I'll just wing it and hope everyone else is terrible.

You should hit the ladder, it's a pretty good way to play friendlies or try and play some ranked matches for some pressure.

fite ME
We're getting out Super Mario Maker stage on Wednesday. Fingers crossed, as always, for some more content to come with it
I don't think we're getting anything else; they surely would've teased it by this point, which is a bummer as I was also expecting more content on the 30th a few weeks earlier.
all I know is that every morning and every few hours afterwards I check this thread, hoping, praying, that there's like at least 50 new posts, meaning something big just happened.
And every time I check it, there's just two or three.
This has been going on since June
Help me
one of these days i'm gonna duplicate a post 50 times just to fuck with you
You're a goddamn savage and I hope if you do that you can live with the knowledge that you made an eager young man cry that day

m8 i moderated the rust forum back when rust was new. i'd call it a slow day if that didn't happen at least twice lmao. I'll live :)))
(also if anyone wants to fiTE, I'm free for a little bit right now)
DK's on 4 glory are so spike hungry.
Like 90% percent of the time they knock me off the stage it's F-AIR D-AIR SPIKE LEFT AND RIGHT.
And then they get too low and forget about their horizontal recovery and die. They get so spike hungry they try to spike me below the stage and realize they can't recover but by that time its too late.
They're like the new Little Macs.
Everyone on FG is lookin to show off
All C falcons I play online immediately dthrow and try to dair me off the stage.
You can bait every online Ganon player into killing himself with side-b offstage.

Don't forget if it wasn't for the leak/data mining that happened, Ryu and Roy would have been a day of announcement.

The only thing that prevents you from developing situational tech skills by practicing against AI is you. I've been edgeguarded, spiked, ledgehogged, and even watched an AI try the marth killer (light shield against the edge) on me while I was playing Roy.
A level 9 CPU is one monkey with a typewriter pressing 90% of the keys it can, but trying hard to use those keys to kill you. Three level 9 CPUs are slightly better, but if you put friendly fire on they get in each other's way.
The one true smash training method is available in-game without using 20XX, but it's almost impossible.

True, but that was for an E3 surprise. I can't see them doing that again for anything beyond minor content like Mii Costumes. Then again, I'd be stoked to be proven wrong. :v:
Seriously, has anyone watched my WebM? I know you guys are here to see the cool styling, but go ahead and play a four stock match against three level 9 CPU Marths as Roy simultaneously and see what fucking happens.
[editline]28th September 2015[/editline]
Also, I'm convinced that the smash devs are smarter than anyone ever gave them credit for being, and that somewhere in Japan there's a smash master who does nothing but glance unemotionally at the smash scene, watching monkeys mashing their typewriters trying to crack the game.
It's fake. Straight up fake.

Is this seriously a thing? Cause if it is, I can freak out my sister by telling her miku is in smash now. :v:

Wow, those characters are doing a whole lot of... not moving?
I'd much prefer Goku dancing in the background than her.
Something something photoshopped Little Mac something something.
If the soundtrack is upbeat enough I'll buy it. If it turns out to be true.
doc can be fun sometimes

[sp]i still don't know why he let me get those super sheets and fairs[/sp]
I can't be the only one who doesn't give a shit about miku. I don't hate it, I don't like it, it just doesn't bother me.
Its inclusion in something great doesn't inherently lower the quality of that great thing, contrary to what some will adamantly insist.
heh

I would like to see the outrage if Miku got into smash as a character.
