Why not just use the omega form in competitive? Isn't that why sakurai included omega mode?
Omega is a clusterfuck. Sometimes it's just a platform, sometimes it goes all the way down, sometimes the blastzones are those of Final Destination, sometimes they're different, and so on. As a result most people just ignore omega stages and pick the actual Final Destination whenever they need to play on it. The best example of this is that FD's blastzones are different when playing on omega FD. It's fucking stupid.
So looking at the smashboard topic for the new buffs and nerds, I see a lot of tweak on custom moves, which I wish it was easier to set the B Special Moves. I want to wreck people with Custom Ganondorf, dammit.
The look of that Toad outfit make me think of the original Prince of Persia, when he was redesigned in Japan to have a turban.
Is there a list of the music that appears on Mario Maker and Pirate Ship? I must know!
The 3DS version of Mario Maker has the regular Ground theme for each of the different themes and uses the Mario Maker theme for the alternate track; the Smash Wiki has a huge listing for the Wii U version but I don't know that one. I don't know about Pirate Ship.
pirate ship
This I can understand. Most of Pirate Ship's music was put on other stages in the vanilla game, although it's a shame that we didn't get some new Wind Waker music to go along with it.
mario maker
WHY THE HECK DOES MARIO MAKER HAVE SO MUCH MUSIC
mario maker
Is this some kind of sick joke? They give it songs from other stages in the game BUT NOT THE FREAKING MARIO PAINT REMIX? What are they thinking??? [sp]I'll take the remix, though.[/sp]
That Toad Mii is legitimately frightening.
Business Man Mii. Finally Francis York Morgan can profile the outcome of battle.
Is it just me or does the Pirate Ship stage look more vibrant this time around?
they are so fucking picky
Picking Final Destination when you want a flat level makes them picky? Lol ok. Why bother dealing with all of the minor changes that could potentially effect gameplay (such as the way the underneath of the stage is formed and the size of the blast line) when you can just pick good ol Final Destination.
Why do people like Pirate Ship
shieldstun has been greatly increased [sp]falco can not drop his shield because he's in constant shield stun[/sp]
Why not just use the omega form in competitive? Isn't that why sakurai included omega mode?
He did it because Wifi devolved to Final Destination (which was awful in Brawl due to the edges, anyway) because it simultaneously was neutral enough for the stage to not get in the way of the fight yet broad enough to not become a complete mess in the FFA environment and potentially items-on environment of wifi, so everyone kept picking it. This was even said in the Smash Facts video. If they really did it for competitive, Omegas would either have/be a Battlefield option (less desirable than the following alternative but more desirable than Final Destination, which is actually not the most neutral stage in the game at all which is why Little Mac is so much worse in comp than on For Glory. Battlefield and Smashville are the closest in Smash 4 to being ideal) or just give us a stage hazard switch (apparently made too much sense to give us when they already disable hazards in 8-player >_> ). They did it for the wifi players.
Because remembering what stages in Omega are favorites would be really hard right? If that's it alone it's a really weak and flimsy excuse.
Er, no. You do realize that in competitve play, they have a system of counterpicks where the winner of the previous match can stage strike/ban several stages that they do not like, right? Here is the problem with Omega Stages in comp and why they are banned. Because several of them have walls like Omega Pac Land, these benefit characters with wall jumps (i.e. Little Mac), so those are inherently better for characters like him that need a wall jump to properly recover, and thus are going to be different from stages with lips like the Omega Bridge of Eldin and Omega Colosseum, which can interfere with recoveries or Omega Great Cave Offensive which has a "pineapple" bottom which can trap people as they recover. For all intents and purposes, these attributes make them different stages since Smash 4 has a very strong off-stage game and thus ledge design is a far more noticeable attribute than in other Smash Bros games. They can't lob them all under Final Destination because they are different. Because there is a variable in difference which can affect matchups extremely, players would always strike Final Destination if this was the norm. Let's say it's considered a separate Final Destination slot though, you are giving the loser more options because the winner has to waste two stage strikes on "FD" and thus flat stages, which in general are not considered balanced for the cast as stages with platforms, are thus now being weighted unfairly, and because of that unknown variable of "which" Omega stage your opponent is going to pick, they would still always ban Omegas unless they were considered separate stages. Now what if omegas were listed as separate stages? You are basically not only devolving the stage roster into 90% Final Destination clones but also make stage striking almost entirely moot when that is an important part of matchup knowledge and inhenerently are making detested characters like Sheik and Sonic better by doing this since they favor FD. You are allowed to gentlemen's agreement to an omega stage but the banning of omega stages in comp (friendly reminder that Big Battlefield is also banned, but that is due to the blast lines being way too close to the stage and circle camping) is entirely justified. Basically, the Omega stages not being reskins of Final Destination are why they are not in comp. By the way, there are 49 omega stages on the Wii U, so in fact it would actually be difficult for the average competitive or casual player to remember every little difference in each omega stage, which exacerbates the issues I listed above and would just result in players striking omegas, anyway.
Marth/Lucina Shield breaker was nerfed, and they got no other changes. why
sure would care a lot more about those mii fighter costumes if i could play with the online nintendo
They have to protect the children from seeing Hitler Miis! Don't you ever think of the children?
Marth/Lucina Shield breaker was nerfed, and they got no other changes. why
Because shields got nerfed hardcore apparently.
shieldstun has been greatly increased [sp]falco can not drop his shield because he's in constant shield stun[/sp]
How strong is the shield stun for slower multi-hit moves (like jabs) or one-hit moves? The game definitely needed more shieldstun, although the lack of shieldpush is going to make things like aura sphere charging hella broken when usually the solution in earlier Smash games is to nudge the opponent away from the hit.
Is a shield nerf good or bad? It seems like it's an attempt to make the game less defensive, but at the same time it seems like a change to rolling would be more ideal.
How strong is the shield stun for slower multi-hit moves (like jabs) or one-hit moves?
copy-pasting because i'm lazy
Most looping hitboxes in the game that I've seen in recent times tend to hit 1 out of 3 frames or 2 out of 3 frames. In the latter case it ensured that the move could not be shield dropped in between. If a move now has a minimum of 3 frames of shield stun there would be no gap available to drop shield or start another shield drop action.
don't know for one-hit moves tho
Is a shield nerf good or bad? It seems like it's an attempt to make the game less defensive, but at the same time it seems like a change to rolling would be more ideal.
Shields definitely needed nerfing due to acting out of shield being so free. (i.e. shield -> grab). However, if there is no shieldpush as that Lucario/Falco video suggested then it's partially moot since shieldpush helped to knock shielding opponents out of their own grab range.
copy-pasting because i'm lazy don't know for one-hit moves tho
Hmm, so if it's at least three frames of shield stun it should have a noticeable effect on pressure but not be overbearing or particularly strong in normal circumstances. Still better than no shieldstun but I don't feel that is enough to curb how useful defense is at the moment. They definitely need to take a look into hitstun, airdodges, ledgegrabbing and rolling but at least it's a step in the right direction.
However, if there is no shieldpush as that Lucario/Falco video suggested then it's partially moot since shieldpush helped to knock shielding opponents out of their own grab range.
there's no shieldpush in that case because falco is on the edge of the stage I think
they are so fucking picky
hm yes well I wouldn't expect a FILTHY CASUAL to know this but final destination and it's omega derivatives aren't, oddly enough, the end all be all of competitive stage selection. there's a ton to consider. some characters do better or worse on certain stages based on the positioning, movement, or lack of platforms giving us another omega stage and calling it another competitive stage is kinda missing the entire point of competitive stage selection
there's no shieldpush in that case because falco is on the edge of the stage I think
Watched the video again and looked at his feet, this is correct. This is definitely a good change, then, although I assume it will now be important to tilt shields in order to escape shieldlocks like that without breaking your own shield in the process by getting shield poked.
I'm seeing some gifs and webms of jigglypuff with the new shield stuff. I feel so fucking bad for her now.

There is like no reason to use the shield anymore is there?
