Turns out that's false and you just have to hit his shield again, then he's grabbable.
It also only applies to the character who multi-hit him. Everyone else can still grab him.

Keep in mind... Doubles. Diddy/Diddy team could consistently make eachother grab immune, versus characters who rely on grabs.

People get reeeaaally salty if you beat them with low tier characters too. Nobody cares if I do well as Fox but if I win a match as Charizard, suddenly "SPAMMER", "LUCKY", "BLOWME", etc.

Calling it that the characters were already decided before the ballot even came close to ending.
Perhaps due to three clearly sweeping it, perhaps because it was always fake, but whatever the reason, those three could be sitting on Nintendo's servers 100% complete right now.
or maybe they're set on having that many characters added anyway and haven't decided yet on one or all of them. this doesn't mean that the characters are done, or even in development. it just means they opened up some slots
Well hey, if three candidates got an overwhelming majority (let's say 11% of all votes each, 1/3 of the total combined) which is so large that it is statistically unfeasible that it will be surpassed, the decision could have been made quite early, actually.

So in this new update, Nintendo increased the number of character and stage slots from what we originally knew about? Well I guess we can't guess how many characters and stages we'll get based off of that, seeing as Nintendo can add as many as they darn well please. :v:
Considering we get a popular veteran (Wolf, Snake, eventually Ice Climbers) and a highly likely ballot winner (K.Rool, Inklings, *urgh* Bandana Dee), I actually have no idea who could win the third slot.
They can either surprise us with an unlikely character (Shovel Knight, Shantae, something Rhythm Heaven), go with long time requests (Isaac, Ridley) or choose reasonably popular choices nobody really expected to win for various reasons (Layton, Phoenix Wright, Wonder Red, Bayonetta, Rayman, Dixie Kong, Waluigi).
There's so much choice but in the end so little shoe-ins.

I wonder why they don't do DLC alt skins. A Daisy alt for Peach, Wario & Olimar getting back their lost alts, a Dr.Luigi alt, ect. Pretty sure that'd be popular.
