I still think we might see a stage though for Smash 4, but I feel Inklings would be a big card to save for the next game.
A stage without the characters really seems like a missed opportunity. and Smash 5 could be years away. They need to cash in on their popularity now.
Well they did release a stage for Animal Crossing in Brawl without a character rep, wouldn't be surprised if they did the same for Splatoon now.
Might as well make the characters and release them with the stage. Seems kinda pointless to sell the standalone stage without them.
The Japanese version of Melee had the Proximity Mine from Perfect Dark, and they still credited Rareware in the credits.
the ballot winner should be a character from an ip nintendo hasn't even released yet roy was a start by being in a game as a teaser for one that was coming out but we need to go further 'how did a character no-one knew existed get enough votes in a popularity contest to be considered?' who cares smash fans are historical revisionists, every time something big happens they act like they always knew it was gonna happen. everyone's gonna be all 'yeah i voted for Spunky the Archaeologist, I love the Spunky's Archaeology series it's my favorite'.
Nintendo never ever gives credit to other rivals- while Rare Replay has Nintendo's logo pasted all over it when applicable, Nintendo did not even list the PS1 version of MGS for the Cyborg Ninja's trophy. I just don't see B&K ever arriving, both because of Nintendo and because I don't think they're popular in Japan.
You have Revolver Ocelot for an avatar, but forgot who Gray Fox was? :v:
You have Revolver Ocelot for an avatar, but forgot who Gray Fox was? :v:
I know who he is, I just didn't want to mention his name because spoilers :v: (Yes I know it's a 17 year old game)
what the fuck GRAY FOX IS THE CYBORG NINJA???? augh fucking thanks dick now I can't play metal gear anymore. series fucking ruined.
what the fuck GRAY FOX IS THE CYBORG NINJA???? augh fucking thanks dick now I can't play metal gear anymore. series fucking ruined.
I literally started playing the Metal Gear series from the beggining and just met the Ninja... Thanks
I know who he is, I just didn't want to mention his name because spoilers :v: (Yes I know it's a 17 year old game)
They call him Gray Fox in Smash Bros.
The Japanese version of Melee had the Proximity Mine from Perfect Dark, and they still credited Rareware in the credits.
Not to mention that the Motion-Sensor Bomb in 64 and western Melee is from Goldeneye.
this interview with Scar and m2k is so great.
https://cp.nintendo.co.jp/jp/ ballot just ended in japan, can anyone translate it?
https://cp.nintendo.co.jp/jp/ ballot just ended in japan, can anyone translate it?
Basically just says "The Ballot has ended. Thank you for your application." :v:
No one mentioned this yet, ZeRo went on to win that tournament where he lost to Seagull anyways.
A lot of Melee could be summarized with "______ has a glitch called ______ and it's really fucking weird but it's still legal somehow"
A bit late at responding to this but Melee actually isn't glitchier than Brawl (which has a lot more game-breaking stuff and things that actually affect the meta in a way that can be intentionally done) and Smash 4 is only less glitchy due to having the saving grace of patches. Can you imagine if Smash 4 stayed in it's released state with such things like wectoring, Yoshi's egg lay making opponents grow, Olimar's pikmin becoming insane after being reflected by Fox, being able to force people through the stage via trampoline and spastic, one-hit kill fire hydrants? That's ignoring current glitches like Diddy becoming grab-immune or Game & Watch's bucket receiving a disproportionate amount of knockback and damage from Sheik's Vanish.

"Oh, yeah that one. Haha, yeah it's weird, but in a charming way. We've grown accustomed to it." [editline]t[/editline] Every game in the series has its quirks, but people are generally the most forgiving of Melee's, and are quick to point to the flaws in the other games the moment it's criticized. Kinda like you just did, actually.

[editline]t[/editline] Every game in the series has its quirks, but people are generally the most forgiving of Melee's, and are quick to point to the flaws in the other games the moment it's criticized. Kinda like you just did, actually.
Name a glitch that isn't looked at with contempt aside from wobbling (which is basically the only thing keeping Ice Climbers in the top 8 the way they are) and spikes (arguable case either for oversight or intentional though since they didn't bother to patch out Falcon's or Falco's in PAL when they patched Marth's and Falco's is easier so . . . . ) in Melee. Melee players completely hate the presence of phantom hits and the ceiling glitches, if you're going to bring up Mewtwo being able to scar people through the stage, it's because it's a command grab and you could do the same basically with Wario's Chomp in Brawl and Smash 4 to begin with. People don't mind it because you kind of deserve to be scarred through the stage if you are losing to a Melee Mewtwo and actually went up to them in the one scenario that side B is even useful but it's not like competitive players even care that much outside of friendlies about that because Mewtwo is completely unviable. Most non-Marth players don't like going against Marth due to his grab range in Melee (especially spacies, which can be as-good-as-wobbled against a decent Marth) but it's not like that weren't similarly accepted glitches like bucket-breaking for Mr. Game & Watch in Brawl, either, which was also viewed as deepening their meta. Wavedashing isn't actually a glitch (just a peculiar way the game chooses to land the player based on momentum, allowing them for to slide for a bit but still using the same calculations it normally would if you suddenly stopped moving for the friction, which is why Luigi's is so good), they actually noticed it existed during programming and left it in. L-Cancelling is intentionally programmed, ledge techs are intentionally programmed, v-cancelling is intentionally programmed. Also, in regards to Melee having some things shrugged off, Brawl's DACUS glitch was applauded by the community because it actually added something to Brawl's design and people were pissed when not only were Sora Ltd so oblivious to it's existence that it was still present in Smash 4 initially but that they patched it out when other things that transferred from Brawl's engine were complained about far more that there was backlash to it, so it's not like the community is as biased toward Melee glitches as you suggest. The thing with Smash 4 glitches though is not a single one is beneficial in any way to anyone, not even comp. There isn't an equivalent glitch to DACUS in Smash 4 that people can enjoy, only the things like phantom hits (why they made these official with Brawl is anyone's guess) that people don't want.
Every game in the series has its quirks, but people are generally the most forgiving of Melee's
They're also more forgiving because the gameplay is overall more interesting to those players. For many people, the base gameplay of Brawl and Smash 4 is unappealing to them and the glitches only worsen their opinion, whereas the glitches in Melee they feel are not enough to bog down their preference to the point of liking those games more. If they want to play an aggressive and quick-paced game, even if it was entirely an unplayable mess their first thought wouldn't be to play a defensive and slower-paced game, instead, it would to be either deal with it or find another game with a similar pace. The mistake that people make when they diss players ignoring a lot of Melee's problems is that they are acting like this is a new opinion, whereas the Melee players are already aware of these flaws and it's like beating a dead horse to them because that won't change that those flaws exist. They're well aware that a better game could be made, heck, Melee was almost dead for a while when people temporarily migrated to Brawl before people realized what kind of game design it had, but they don't feel Brawl or Smash 4 is that game. Melee isn't getting new patches, Smash 4 is far more liable to have it's glitches complained about specifically because they have something Melee doesn't: a chance at fixing these problems. Trust me, if Melee was actively getting patched and some of the glitches were still around that are present in it, there would be plenty of people griping about it, and it would get the same complaints about being unbalanced that Smash 4 does.

Mango was definitely not happy about losing that. In the interview with Scar he looked so defeated. And he told Scar that he had to drive home that night too to take care of his kid. Poor mang0.
