Because it's the first new IP Nintendo made in years, the last one they made was Pikmin in 2001.
And it's a successful one too, if they're not in Smash 4 they'll definitely be in Smash 5.
Actually, Nintendo made a lot of new IPs between Pikmin and Splatoon (The Wonderful 101, Dillon's Rolling Western, etc.) It's just that Splatoon is the one that has been the most successful in a long while.
Dillon and W101 are technical third party. W101 is closer to second party with how much money Nintendo put behind it, but it's still Kamiya's IP, not Nintendo's.
IIRC Nintendo itself does not consider them to be first-party franchises, at least not directly. They are referred to as "partner franchises", inferring that while they were not made in-house, they are still curated, funded and/or produced by Nintendo. This is better known as second-party.
The difference is that Nintendo does not possess full ownership of them, sharing this with one or more other entities. Splatoon is true first-party because it is 100% Nintendo's property.

Pokemon is another partner franchise, merely co-owned and published by Nintendo.

However, calling either franchise third-party is still incorrect.

Yeah, they're second-party.
Still not fully Nintendo though like Splatoon.

It could easily be a goof, but...it'd be a very strange thing to happen on accident.
In case it gets removed, it's the shovel knight amiibo in that list.

That list appears to just contain every amiibo ever. If you go to the page for the specific amiibo it lists the compatible games.

It shows amiibos that are compatible with Smash. There's no Chibi Robo one, or Animal Crossing ones. Amiibos like Yarn Yoshi and Turbo Charged DK/Bowser still work with Smash for obvious reasons.

On Chibi's page it shows it's also compatible with Smash.
Well that is quite interesting
Can't wait for Spade Palladin
Trowel Templar
Then that list has no consistency to it, and should probably be taken with a grain of salt.
Would Chibi Robo be a 8-9 on the hype scale? I haven't heard anyone say they would really want him in over anyone else.

Shovel Knight's actual page only lists its game

To be honest, I'd love for him to be a combination of Himself and Ike. B for Sword Attacks from Ike and A for NotFalcon.

Fuck, I really wish Ganondorf played like this in Sm4sh.
I'm just glad Dorf isn't mostly a Falcon clone anymore
he's the king of disrespects now
True, shame I kinda wish at least his normal specials where his customs, especially Wizard's Dropkick and Dark Fist.
I just noticed 1.1.2 fucked up all my replays again
now my best replay ever doesn't exist anymore
[sp]a wizard kick spike on last stock offstage at 130% are you kidding me sakurai you just fixed a diddy bug[/sp]
I see that a lot of Ryu players tend to do True Shoryuken. I'm aware of the full armor, but if they're at 130%, regular Shoryuken (up-B) will kill on that point forward. I DO use True Shoryuken when they're at 80-90%, but once they're high enough, Up-B is simpler and easy to use for punishing. Of course, Focus Attack to True Shoyruken is still the most satisfying thing ever.
