Being able to play it in the onlines mode and in tournaments.
Okay but aside from that, what's the point. Why bother buying a character when another character with the same movesets is already available? That's like them announcing Dark Pit as DLC when he's just a clone of Pit. Besides, Sakurai did say that Smash was not going to have clones, aside from Dr. Mario, Dark Pit, and Lucina, so, if the Inkings were announced, I doubt that they would be clones of anything.

I absolutely hate that Peach can't grab the ledge if she uses her parasol from behind.
People making leaks have to step up their game. Make your own model, animate it, give it unique moves, and record gameplay with a bad camera from Brawl. Now that I think about it. I think people claimed that during the big 3DS leak.
There was that one leaked clip with Ganondorf, Charizard, and maybe one or two newcomers on Yoshi's Island on 3DS which people thought was a Brawl mod, so that already happened. :v:
I remember one of them was Shulk that people claimed was just a remodeled Ike.
I think the most damning evidence of any "leaks" is photographic- the guy who originally claimed he knew the next character was someone who used to work at Nintendo, not someone on the smash team. All he has with him are his words, not something easily photoshoppable.

I would include the visual representation of an earthquake, since the shakier the camera is, the more likely the leak is real...supposedly.
I do not trust any "leak" if I won't hear the announcer ham the character's name up.

Oh France. Never make sense, ever. We like you this way.

I'm kinda concerned about this Project M stuff, is that weird?
What PM stuff?
What PM stuff?
I assume it's the stuff about the PM team potentially launching their own "smash clone".
What's there to be concerned about?
That's the first time I hear about that, but if it's true, Rip project M. There's no way they'd keep working on something that would eventually cannibalize their sales. I guess they want to do like the Fighting is Magic team and turn a licensed fan made game into their own thing but that just can't work. Them's Fighting Herds has Lauren Faust in their team and it will barely get to a full fund. Smash clones have always failed in the past. Indie fighting games that end up having a healthy player base are really rare.
How would project M make a smash clone? They don't own any IPs, and to be frank I think gameplay for smash is basic and characters are the selling point
I think gameplay for smash is basic and characters are the selling point
excuseme
excuseme
I'm kinda with him. It's a tad shallow but i wouldn't like Super Smash Bros nearly as much as I do if I couldn't play as Samus or Fox. The characters in Smash Bros are iconic, and when you put original characters into the mix the appeal dwindles a bit. I want to play as Marth, not "guy who fights kinda like Marth." This Wavedash Games stuff probably isn't leading to a new IP announcement from the PMDT, however. If anything I feel like it's just going to be some sort of e-sports (I hate that term, for the record) event. EDIT: Also, I believe when he says the gameplay for Smash is basic, he's talking about the core stuff. You don't have to memorize any kind of combos in Smash, all your moves are delegated to a specific button and directional input. In that sense Smash is a basic fighting game, it has a low skill floor. And a ridiculously high skill ceiling, depending on the game.

And a ridiculously high skill ceiling, depending on the game.
there is literally a competitive indie fighter inspired by the mechanics of smash with original characters called rivals of aether that is doing extremely well right now. melee has been played competitively for 10+ years with 0 balance changes and still has an evolving meta to this day because of how mechanically deep the gameplay is. it definitely has combo's and the DI/SDI systems actually make the combo's inherently more free form and varied, and the existence of the ledges and the core ideas of percentage and blast zones just create even more win conditions and options, those core ideas are so good that they could be the foundation of an entire genre
Smash clones have always failed in the past. Indie fighting games that end up having a healthy player base are really rare.
Rivals of Aether is a Smash clone by the makers of Super Smash Land and it's doing quite well. The fanbase for PM was actually pretty open to the idea of making the jump to being an indie IP when people misinterpeted an announcement a few weeks ago [sp]heck I misinterpreted it, too[/sp] due to losing the need for CRT usage while also gaining the ability to easily play the game in HD anywhere. The platformer fighter genre is inexplicably really dry and it's baffling to me because the genre takes very little effort to make good gameplay out of that can appeal to people, yet we still get things like PSAS which don't even seem to be directed at real players.
excuseme
Well, he isn't wrong, Smash is actually quite basic for a fighter, even Melee and I play 64, Melee and PM. No one would play Brawl if it didn't have Nintendo IPs because Nintendo IPs are the only things salvaging it's design.
Not Smash clones, but stuff like the players hating on Brawl itself (apparently being the reason Project M was made) as well as that video showcasing someone (or somebody, or many different players) trying to unlock the SSBB characters only to fail either spectacularly, miserably, or even pathetically. Because, the point where you get to unlock them is dangerous and risky due to how getting KO'd needs you doing it aaaalll over again to face the unlockable once more. I recall first fighting Dr. Mario in Melee, didn't go so well, got him the second time.… Then in SSBB when I first got to Marth I understood the danger.
