Smash 4's overhaul of him is great, but I miss the two-ton headbutt he had for a side smash. That was arguably one of the most satisfying moves in the entire game.
To me, Smash 4's incarnation of Bowser is also pretty off-model (just not run-by-vibrating and rigging-so-bad-that-his-shell-flexes-during-moves levels of off-model), he stands too upright (where as Melee/Brawl Bowser stands too hunched) and having a dropkick is completely out-of-character for Bowser, who never attacks by kicking. Smash 4's revamp is sort of a step in the right direction but I would like to see him overhauled yet again in a future Smash.
So Sakurai's project purposal slides have been translated.

I might be forgetting some games but the ones I can think of: the original Super Mario Bros, Mario 64, Mario Sunshine, Mario Galaxy 1/2 are the ones that stick out the most in my mind. In the original SMB he just walks back and forth and spits fireballs. Mario 64 he doesn't do anything but spit fireballs and slam the ground if I recall correctly. Mario Galaxy 1 he doesn't do anything but spit fireballs and slam the ground either. In Mario Galaxy 2 he straightup throws punches, which he does in his jabs, as opposed to his jabs in previous games where he slashed his claws. He also shoots straight rows of fire, which he's already done since Melee. I can't remember how he worked in the Mario & Luigi series, but I know he does punch and spit fireballs at the least.

i think the dropkick is more satisfying than the headbutt was
So Sakurai's project purposal slides have been translated.
For those who skipped over this (or just skimmed it), Sakurai states something interesting:
All fighters on the roster are decided from the beginning, along with themes to help bring out their unique attributes. . . . After everything is decided, the staff works as a single unit to create everything as planned, but unfortunately some characters still end up slipping through the cracks. . . . Before deciding on the roster, I do some preliminary research on demand and popularity, but I don't make any changes once the project is in motion.
This finally debunks the idea of "wasted slots" once and for all, insisting that the number of slots is determined by the number of characters planned from the very beginning of the project, rather than the proverbial game of musical chairs some insist the process was. Some character ideas were reworked or dropped midway through because they didn't work or weren't fun. Nobody was left out because there was no more room, because the amount of room and the fighters to occupy it were planned well in advance of development even starting.
Bowser actually has arguably more material to work with than almost any other character in the cast besides Mario, Luigi, Link, Wario, Pokemon and Kirby. :| While in Smash, he does punch, claw, spin in his shell, spew flames and ground pound, things that he has done in his games (though half of that seems like a coincidence due to their execution), he also doesn't do any of the following which could be referenced: -spit fireballs (since SMB) -throw hammers (since SMB, referenced almost as often as using fireballs) -have high mobility (since SMB3) -use magic (since SMB3, more prominently in the Galaxy games, SM3DLand and SM3DWorld) -flies in a copter (since SMW) -cause seismic waves (since SM64) -spit homing fire (since SM64, done in multiple mainstream Mario games since then) -teleport (since SM64) -tackle people almost like the Wario Bash (in Super Princess Peach) -have the ability to float like Peach (since Super Mario Galaxy) Not likely to be referenced, but he also has a powerful throw and the ability to morph the ground into spires in SMRPG as well as other features that appeared from time-to-time in the various games. Instead of referencing any of that in Smash or his tactical personality, they instead make him a generic movie monster that somehow knows how to do flying suplexes.
You must really hate Villager, Captain Falcon, Zelda, Rosalina & Luma, Wii Fit Trainer, Palutena, and Duck Hunt, then, because they all do things that they never, ever did in their base game.
They don't have enough material to work with, so it's sort of justified for them. On the other side, I think that the movesets for Ganondorf, Bowser and Wario are obnoxiously obtuse because they have plenty to use that goes ignored, and other characters could be more canonically accurate as well.
Bowser should make seismic waves when he ground slams. It's such a vulnerable move, it would be a nice addition to make up for it.
just like Dedede's recovery jump. strange, since they got that one right
anyone here in NA (preferably east coast) play Melee Netplay?
You must really hate Villager, Captain Falcoln, Zelda, Rosalina & Luma, Wii Fit Trainer, Palutena, and Duck Hunt, then, because they all do things that they never, ever did in their base game.
Villager is one of the best character adaptations to me. The only moves that don't seem to actually be based on anything are the bowling ball and boxing gloves, and Balloon Trip being based on Balloon Fight makes sense because you can play Balloon Fight in the first game and Balloons are a recurring feature of the series. Many of those characters do things they never did before, yes, but in most cases they're characters with little source material to draw from who are given moves based on other things in the series they're from. Zelda (Magic that Link used), Palutena (Magic/Various other abilities that Pit used), Rosalina (several abilities based on the aesthetic of Super Mario Galaxy, if not explicitly based on gameplay mechanics) and Duck Hunt (since Duck Hunt represents the NES Zapper in general, and not just Duck Hunt the game) are all in this boat. Captain Falcon is an interesting case because he was added originally just because he had the right body type to fill in for a character with a generic moveset that had already been designed, before the game was even a Nintendo crossover series. Anyway, Bowser is different because many of his abilities aren't based on anything while also not being particularly fitting of the character. Almost everything about Wario falls into this category too, but Bowser's special moves (with the exception of his side special) are all based on something.
Another one:
th profesy
I find it kinda sad when you beat someone on for glory and then they end up picking someone like Sheik or Rosalina and then they do significantly worse than the game before and just show they have no experience with that character. Tiers really fuck with how some people view the game.

Pretty lame. I much prefer playing against people when they're playing a character they're at least competent with. I don't get any better from fighting some dude playing Marth for his 3rd time ever.
I haven't played in awhile and started the game up. Got a update, what exactly was in said update?
"Minor, non-gameplay adjustments" according to SmashWiki.
literally changing one line of code, nothing else
Well that's odd! Oh well v:v:v

He was playing pretty campy which is pretty much pen and paper fg Villager and while he was kinda predictable he stuck to moves that were safe at the distance he was using them. It definitely felt like I had been playing against someone that had put time in Villager, but I still managed to beat him with a well placed dair. Next match starts and he had immediately switched to Rosalina and I immediately entered ohboyherewego mode. I have played against enough strong Rosalina players to absolutely hate the Zelda matchup with her and expected the worst. But he just kinda threw out moves and in the end I JV2'd him and both of his stocks were from him missing the edge with Rosalina's recovery. :v: Rosalina isn't fun to fight for me but winning a match like that is even less fun and I'd rather have been stuck against campy Villager than that wet fart.
Hey guys, I'm pretty new to Smash (I played the original a lot though) and I'd like to get better at playing as Diddy Kong & Lucina. Would you guys mind giving me a bit of advice on generally getting better at the game and those two characters? I get my ass kicked in online mode constantly.

Back in the days, we played just for fun and everyone was just goofing around, playing Smash now seems way more tactical and shit. Thanks for the video though! Can you upload replays to YT somehow? Maybe you guys could tell me what I could improve when I show you how I play.

Almost every character can use them to great extent to improve approaches.
Can you upload replays to YT somehow?
You will either need to buy a good capture card device or wait for the recently-announced future update that includes YouTube recording.
Ah, awesome, I'll wait for that then! Thanks. [editline]6th July 2015[/editline] I just met the biggest douche, holy shit. First he used his regular profile name to play and he kicked my ass as Donkey Kong, then he changed his profile name to "weak". Why?
Internet derped on me for a month and a half. Did I miss anything or is this still "Salt Mining Simulator 20XX?"
some people are dicks like when you thrash someone and they immediately switch to an 'S-tier' fighter. Or just as bad, when they go to your main's hard counter that they've never played before as for spammy Diddy, ZSS, Mario, and Ness players, who abuse ~elite~ skills they learned from YouTube like Mario's downthrow->uptilt, or paralyzer->downthrow->up B, or PK fire->backthrow/downthrow->fair, i like to beat them as Samus (because nobody expects an aggressive Samus) or as Dedede (because he's my best for some reason), then change my name to COPY+PASTE but honestly, my greatest respect goes to the players you destroy that don't quit, who keep trying and, even if they're salty on the other side of the screen, don't carry it into the game. I love those players, and i won't taunt them. when i leave, i'll change name to GOODFIGHTS and wish them well in my heart
[t]http://i.imgur.com/3iXMHa1.jpg[/t] Seeing stuff like this makes me want to rep DHD so bad
I really like to play as Ganon or Ike right now
DHD is truly man's best friend seeing as he can't bring himself to kill anything.
