Sakurai's weekly entry in Famitsu, translated
What left an impression on me when developing Roy was recording his lines. We used the same voice actor from Melee, Mr. Fukuyama. Even though it had been over 10 years, he remembered details from the recording session for Melee extremely well, such as the names for characters, and even the other actors! As a very popular voice actor who had done countless projects since then, I was very happy Smash left an impression on him.

There is a fighter ballot on the official Smash for Wii U/3DS website. We’ve received an extremely large number of votes, but of course, Lucas, Roy, and Ryu were in developed even before the ballot was created. I had a grasp on their popularity and demand, though.
From now until the end, it is going to be fan service, but I can’t keep the development team together forever, so there’s only going to be several more characters. I also ask for your patience, as we need time to develop more content.
Several, huh? Wonder if they'll be newcomers entirely or bring back a brawl fighter or two and maybe one more newcomer that isn't in the ballot.
The manager is now out:

Seeing how they said several, I could see it being it for new fighters, maybe just wolf and that's it.
Still hoping for Inkling and K. Rool.
I wonder if the "several" is a translation error. "There's only going to be several more characters" seems like an oxymoron.

It could be equivalent to the phrase "there's only so much" which implies that there's a limit to the amount of future fighters they'll make.
you're talking about melee right?
cause there isn't a buffer period to do grounded attacks from a jump in melee, every characters jump has a specific amount of frames until you leave the ground, which you can cancel into specific things (mainly grab, upsmash, or up b)
don't know about PM though.
its like that in pm too, jumps can be canceled in their jumpsquat phase to different moves. the one difference i know of is that in pm you can do a running upsmash, but in melee you have to jump cancel into an upsmash

That's the buffer I am referring to. The reason jump cancels exist is because in Melee, they designed it to not require frame perfect pressing of up and A/B in order to pull off, as it will check for the A,B (or strangely, Z) press for a few frames after pressing up to make sure you didn't mean to do those attacks, yet the amount of time is exploitable as the jump startup initiates on the first frame. The side effect is that, since Reflector can be cancelled by beginning a jump, you can perform two cancels in a row to do a reflector -> up smash in very short order. In addition, due to the coding for jump cancelling itself being quite oddly designed, you can jump cancel into grab.
Besides that, since Fox has such a short jump squat animation, you can cancel it into reflector within about 3 frames upon jump cancelling another reflector.

This is slowed down to one-twenty-fourth and one-tweltth the original speed, respectively.
I have this argument going on and I need an answer
K.Rool is a character made by Rare, right? Does that mean Nintendo doesn't have the rights to use him?
I'm asking because since the Kremlings are in Smash Run, I'm pretty sure that means there is no problem with using K.Rool. But you know, internet arguments. Even then, Nintendo got fucking Ryu, Megaman, Pac Man and Sonic, I doubt copyright issues mean much.

How crazy would the entire community go at just this change?

I would be going crazy at the sheer fact that they posted a changelog :v:

Nintendo owns all Donkey Kong Country and Donkey Kong 64 characters (aside from maybe the TV show characters like Bluster Kong, and Chained Kong and Guerilla from Super Mario RPG). They do not, however, own Jetpac, which is present in Donkey Kong 64 and was apparently the result of rights negotiations with Microsoft to make happen on the VC. This is also in stark contrast to the characters in Super Mario RPG, which Square-Enix owns all characters newly introduced in that game, including Geno, Mallow and Boshi.
King K Rool's appeared in Mario Super Sluggers and is a trophy in Smash 4, as well.

I only see room for two more icons on the character select screen so I guess that's all we're getting. More would be rad, and it seems shitty to limit the ballot results to just 2, but hey better than nothing.
*snip, too silly*

There are assets for a next page / previous page button on the CSS of both versions. We could in theory have enough characters to warrant an entire second page, at best.

two issues with that: wasn't that what they used for the new maps? And how would that work with multiple players at once? It'd be a clusterfuck trying to pick your character when people keep switching the page around. It'd be on an entirely different level of "fuck off you annoying cunt" than the c-stick camera wobble was lmao
Believe me I want it, but I just don't see it happening. Plus he said it'd 'only' be a few more so yeah, wouldn't make sense to add an entirely new page for just like 2 more characters beyond the other 2 we're also getting.
The buttons exist in the assets of both the CSS and SSS. In the 3DS version those icons in the CSS are lower resolution than in the SSS, so they're definitely not the same.
Still, the CSS icons seem to have changed size; when we got Mewtwo, there was only room for another character, and now there is room for 4 more without any changes.
God I suck at For Glory, 1 on 1 :v:. I have had the game since launch with a GC controller but only really played singleplayer and local multiplayer, get my arse handed to me every game online.
Usual game will go: Opponent takes my 1st stock -> I take there's (while amassing 100% on myself) -> They capitalize on my percentage and roll me in there first few hits after spawning
Any general tips overall for competitive? I know how to dodge roll and such, and can link a few combos (and know there stronger more versatile moves) with characters I play frequently but I feel as though I'm missing something

Oh man that reminds me, in SSB i finally could play good with Snake, i totally owned all my friends and i could play against the AI difficulty level 8-9.
Joined a tournament at some LAN and got my ass kicked at qualification :(
When I first booted up Project M and heard this:

I got goosebumps. Damn, this is such a better theme than in Brawl imo.
Holy shit. I think I may have just encountered what is, perhaps, the most obnoxious Mega Man player ever in For Glory. They just kept hopping across the stage repeatedly while occasionally throwing out a projectile. Any time I reflected their projectile, they would just duck and any attempt to approach them was futile.
Sounds like you met Protoman :v:

It doesn't launch at all for me.

As it stands there's absolutely no room for new characters on the 3DS version, so they'll either end up adding the new page or making the new characters Wii U exclusive. That latter option isn't going to happen.

3DS has the advantage of every player having their own screen.
To allow people onto a secondary character select menu will interfere with absolutely nothing at all.
Anyone who is good at ganondorf wanna play Sm4sh with me?
It's kind of amazing how powerful Shulk becomes with even a basic understanding of what art to use when.
You can consistently kill level 8/9 AI in about half a minute by putting on Buster for 50-70%, then switching to Smash and getting a good read with a smash attack or counter.

I'm sure this is common knowledge by now, but my point is that he becomes THAT much better. I don't think there's a single other character who benefits as much from their core mechanic.
I recently got wifi, so I put on my Anti-Mage pajamas and made some hot coa coa. I'm not sure that's actually how you spell that. After doing this, I played a few matches of Smash Brothers U Wii 4! Well, the online is a bit of a step up from brawl. My hair wasn't torn out after a match or two, so this is a great feature of the video game.
I picked the coffee Kong and played those few matches. After just a few moments, I felt as though I was playing a Smash Brothers game. However, simple combos proved difficult to pull off due to the game of videos matching me up with players from Japan. Many lags were had.
I checked to see if there was a regional option, like in Mario Kart 8. There was were none! I am a little confused. My second game was so much better! Maybe it matched me with someone closer? I'm not sure, but a hit0and-miss online is better than the poo poo, so I am content. I won many games with my coffee Kong, my favorite is winning games like Mr. Ape's side smash midair, he causes the target so fly down faster than my pants during diarrhea.
