[sp] I liked the model of Fox in Brawl [/sp]
Fox's Melee design is way better in Melee. Maybe there's hope for Smash 5 giving him a better design.
melee fox looks pretty good in PM.
Fox's very first design is the only one I can say I'm not a fan of. All the others look good in different ways, I think.
I actually don't really like his newest design, He doesn't even really look like a Fox to me. Looks a lot more like a dog.
Well, foxes look sorta like dogs anyways so it should be okay. It's a bit silly to complain about that imho.
I honestly don't think Fox has ever actually looked like a fox. He's always looked significantly like a dog to me, even his Melee design looks pretty dogish. But that's not a bad thing, as Exodus said, foxes look like dogs.
falco looks more like a pheasant than a falcon (nintendo even knows this) I'm starting to think fox is actually a dog and the names aren't literal
Slippy Toad is a frog, Peppy Hare is a rabbit, etc I still think Fox is a fox though. You'd have to get really specific with dog breeds to find one that matches to a greater extent than "yeah, kinda" [editline]t[/editline] And he's been called a fox by official media and manuals, with the two mentioned above as well, though Falco's species has never been 100% confirmed
falco looks more like a pheasant than a falcon (nintendo even knows this) I'm starting to think fox is actually a dog and the names aren't literal
Yeah Falco, is definitely a Vietnamese Pheasant. Although in regards to Fox, his Melee design looks like a combination of a red fox and a shiba inu. I'm pretty sure Donkey Kong isn't actually a donkey either. Jeez Nintendo is so inconsistent with their naming!
Yeah and Link isn't a link.
Yeah and Link isn't a link.
Metaphors man.
I'm pretty sure Donkey Kong isn't actually a donkey either. Jeez Nintendo is so inconsistent with their naming!
Funny thing about that. Donkey was actually a mistranslation of stupid/ass, so we almost had Ass Kong as a Nintendo All-Star. :v:
Yeah and Link isn't a link.
Use the Hylian's grab. The Hylian is actually named Mark, the parasite controls the host and only reveals itself when it tries to jump to another host.
Funny thing about that. Donkey was actually a mistranslation of stupid/ass, so we almost had Ass Kong as a Nintendo All-Star. :v:
No, that's been debunked by Miyamoto himself I believe. What he was going for was STUBBORN ape, as donkeys are quite stubborn in nature. This reflects the fact DK was highly persistent in his onslaught in the original game, and would refuse to give up even after you reach him twice. Not to mention even after you beat him, he just takes Pauline back and makes you go through the three levels all over again, until you run out of lives or stop playing.

Either way, it's still a mistranslation that stuck because it was catchy, much like how the Koopa Troopas are more-or-less them translating Koopa to Bowser and then forgetting to do the same for his minions, despite them not having Koopa in their species name (Nokonoko) in Japan.
AFAIK "stubborn" is the only one he himself has asserted, and "stupid/ass" has always been a secondhand tale In fact, to quote Snopes: "The bottom line is that no evidence backs up any of the explanations that the name 'Donkey Kong' came about because of a misread fax, mispronunciation, or mistranslation. Shigeru Miyamoto, the game's inventor and the one person who unquestionably knows the origins of the name he chose, has repeatedly affirmed that he used the word 'donkey' to convey a sense of stubbornness and the name 'Kong' to invoke the image of a gorilla." Source for the above
It sounded dumb back then, I'm sure, but it's so perfect now. The name just rolls off the tongue
Captain Falcon is such bullshit he isn't even a Falcon. Is he even a Captain?
Yeah and Link isn't a link.
Actually he is. A link between the Player and the world of Hyrule. That's the entire concept behind his name.
Someone managed to get Ike's Quick Draw OHKO easter egg move in on a serious PM match. [sp]To clarify what is going on for those that don't know, Project M Ike can not hold a quick draw forever. Instead, after an extended amount of time charging, he glows red and automatically shoots forward, damaging himself slightly if he misses. If you hit them just as you pass by (hitbox is right behind Ike), it will kill. The timing is near frame-perfect because of how fast he is and how small the sweetspot is[/sp]
Unfortunately that means people are now going to bitch about it existing until it gets removed
Unfortunately that means people are now going to bitch about it existing until it gets removed
I doubt it, you kind of deserve to get hit by it if you let it happen. Ike doesn't automatically hit in Project M (you can force it to, but it intentionally whiffs the sweetspot if you try it with this easter egg and the sour spot is the same as the normal quick draw), you have to manually time the attack to make it work. All you need to do to avoid it is grab a ledge, jump over him or simply either walk away or get on a platform (heck Lucas was out of range when he did the two PK Freeze shots and jumped within range to try to beat it out). Ike's only able to hit you if you are silly enough to contest it after allowing him to charge for all that time (with a reddening indicator, to boot) and if he didn't automatically do a forced dash, it just behaves like a normal quick draw if you hit with it. The sweetspot itself is kinda tiny, it's that blue ring you see appear when he connects with Lucas. Roy's Flare Blade, Ike's Eruption and even Ganondorf's Melee/Brawl/Smash 4 up tilt are way easier to hit with in comparison and this is the first time I've heard of it actually hitting in a serious match since it was included, what, two years ago?
Wasn't his name a leftover from the original concept of Zelda where the triforce was made of microchips and Link was the link between the real and digital world or something?
True I remember reading something about that. Yet his name still works. "A Link to the Past" and "A Link between Worlds" are perfect examples of the leftover still working with the fantasy concept that we know and love.

This isn't smash. This is JoJo. Edit: Evidently this was a dumb joke, nevermind.
It should look familiar because it's Evo Moment 37 [editline]19th August 2015[/editline] Like what
Any advice for playing as Robin? Especially against fast characters that can just rush in. Also, his thunder projectiles would be a lot more useful if they weren't cancelled out by EVERY SINGLE other projectile.
