prelim brackets are up on the tourney thread btw for those of you participating in the NA tourney
The problem was mainly AI (for 3DS' lower power and possibly WiiU's 8 player Smash) and not just graphics from rendering several Ice Climbers at once, right? That's why they cut the amount of Olimar's Pikmin and reduced their frame rate.
3ds limitation is also why character transformations were cut. It was unfeasible for 3ds because they'd need to potentially pre-load 8 characters worth of assets when a stage begins. Using the transforming characters already in the series, the worst case scenario would be to load up the following characters and all that they entail: Zelda, Shiek, Samus, Zero Suit Samus, Charizard, Ivysaur, Squirtle, and whichever character player 4 wanted to be. Sakurai didn't anticipate that the 3ds would have such limitations (which is absurd to say the least, but we'll roll with it), but the gem that came from that limitation is that characters were made more worthwhile when their transformation was no longer considered a part of their character. Instead it opened up potential to flesh the characters out more thoroughly for their respective styles instead.
Yeah making the transforming characters their own fully fleshed out fighters was definitely a step in the right direction
That's not the hardware limitation that's kept them down, it's the fact that the game would be forced to load up to 8 AI subroutines at once, on top of the stage subroutine, and the item director subroutine. That's something that the 3ds couldn't handle at a consistent 60 frames, so Sakurai benched the pair. It doesn't matter if they are rendered in 2d or with low-fidelity, because they'd still be just as complex a load for the CPU to handle calculations for.
Like I said before. How hard would it be to just limit Ice Climbers to one player? Maybe 2-3 players on the Wii U.
Like I said before. How hard would it be to just limit Ice Climbers to one player? Maybe 2-3 players on the Wii U.
player freedom is critical also what happens when you go online to connect to a random match?
Good Point. Nevermind.
hey at least we have rosalina right guys
Apparently IC was fine on WiiU, though 8 Player Smash came towards the end of development, so they may not have tested them there.
The problem on 3DS isn't just model detail, it's a combination of that and AI budget, and since the CPU is the weakest link when it comes to the older 3DS, it's MOSTLY the AI budget. [editline]26th June 2015[/editline] It wouldn't have been difficult to make them low poly. What would have been difficult would be having to optimize their AI to the point the system can process it at least twice as fast. The only real way around that is to remove the AI element from Nana, making her no more dynamic than Olimar's pikmin. That kinda defeats the character as a whole, doesn't it?
I really like what they did to this stage in PM. It's a shame we'll probably not get something like this in Smash 4.
I was wondering how could people smash attack so quick out of guard. Then I remembered that the new3DS has a c-stick for smash attacks. That must be why, even if I smash A after a match finishes, the opponent has already chosen a character by the time I reach the character screen.
Yeah making the transforming characters their own fully fleshed out fighters was definitely a step in the right direction
Regardless of 3DS limitations, I feel like removing transformatios was the best way to go. It was fully justified with Pokémon Trainer and gave an unique twist to Zelda, but it was fucking dumb with Samus. Unless you were playing with Final Smashes or you knew you had to press L, you weren't able to play with Zero Suit Samus. Overall transformations were very niche and the game benefited from removing them. (Whether I want people to switch to ZSS or not is an entirely different discussion) Also I think there is no way to make the Ice Climbers work on the 3DS, unless they dumb down Nana to have the A.I of a Luma and cut down the animation frames like they did with the Pikmin. It won't happen because it'd severely harm the character, and the weaker A.I would have to be the same on the Wii U version.
I know I shouldn't, but I'm almost wanting to enter an upcoming tournament. It's been forever since I've played competitively but now that I have a wireless connection again I can really shape up against other payers..
i'd need to set everything up which will take awhile but if you want to fight now, add postal101
Sent you a request. Er, has your avatar always been spinning?
It feels like it's spinning faster every time I see it
roy is not broken? he happens to be a very good character but lacks range and has a bad recovery.
The prevailing issue with Roy is sweet spot sizes (many will agree they are far too large) and his sour spot hits being situationally good (they can start combos) rather than a punishment for failing to range properly. [editline]26th June 2015[/editline] Aside from the recovery there is very little downside to him, and it's not even that bad a recovery.

It's hard to keep up with all of the streams going on.

Except his grab game is actually really good? Every one of his throws can be followed up with an aerial, and half with a smash at low percent.
omfg this Ike + Little Mac team I didn't even expect to see Ryo here.
omfg this Ike + Little Mac team I didn't even expect to see Ryo here.
Little Mac really shined. Was nice to see.
Little Mac is surprisingly good in doubles. Loved that match on Delfino. Prepare yourself!
CHRIST that Meta Knight was good
zero and hbox on semis dubs oh the irony
i think the only reason zero and hbox were dubbing together is because m2k's flight got canceled so he's gonna be late as hell assuming his next flight doesn't have any issues
These S4 doubles are awesome.
THAT LITTLE MAC PUNCH. oh my god
Smash 4 is hype as shit goddamn
Ryo + Sol are so fucking awesome jesus christ.
